  On decorating trees

  as liza, the kids, and i were decorating the christmas tree last night, my mind went back to our first christmas together 6 years ago.

  one of the first questions liza asked was "you're not going to put up a tree, are you?

  I thought about making mine a seperate thread, but then I decided to post here and hope several people read it, and give me ideas.

  This is my first Christmas. Even though I left 1 year and 4 months ago, I didn't have anybody to celebrate Christmas with. This year, I went to the local grocery store and saw a little live tree. This tree is one I will plant in my yard next spring. It has a few small decorations on it, so it is definitly a Christmas tree. Although all of my presents are at my girl friend's house, I have my first tree. I am not sure how big into Christmas I will get, but this year, I feel like I have made a clean break from my old life. The best news is, I planned ahead, and I don't need to go fight the crowds at the mall.

  Congregational Get-Together Review!

  well, i went to the get-together i mentioned in another post.

  there was a small surprise, though... not only was the "younger generation" there, the whole freaking cong.

  argh... and man, did i ever feel out of place!

  I did my fare share of snubbing too. It is an odd feeling when the people who I did my snubbing with started snubbing me over a beard. (Sorry, this post reminded me of the Beard post.) It is nice to be beyond that though. How nice it is to associate with people and not have to worry if they are "APPROVED".

  I think there was a discussion here about three months ago on how badly "Joe Ratherflawed" wanted people to forget about the "Ol' Pastor". The connection was made to pictures in publications with no beards. It seems he might have made some order at "Bethel" to start shaving. One thing is for certain "Ratherflawed" molded the Society in his own image. LOL

  Even though every "artist's rendition" showed Jesus with a beard.

  I found some information somewhere on the web about JW books in the 1930s. They actually had Jesus and the rest of the bible characters clean shaved. It seems Rutherford hated beards, because it must have reminded him of Russell. And we all know how badly from about 1925 onward how much he wanted everybody to forget about Russell.

  Matthew Makes Another Error

  the 1 chronicles author lists the descendents of david; some of these, in order, are jehoshaphat, jehoram, ahaziah, joash, amaziah, azariah, jotham, ahaz, hezekiah, manasseh (1 chronicles 3:10-13 niv).

  the matthew author contradicts this genealogy; he leaves out the four consecutive descendents underlined above, and in their place puts uzziah, who he says is jehorams son.

  (matthew 1:8-10 niv).

  I don't read the bible, so could you please fill me and others in on the other potentially missing three men? I seem to remember Azariah and Uzziah being discussed as the same person. However, I don't know anything about the others.

  High Achieving Women

  some of you are aware of my feelings about the role of women in the christian congregation and know i chose a female priest (and someone who is now a good friend) to conduct thirdson and mrs. thirdsons wedding.

  what got me thinking was yesterdays review of the results of the "all colleague survey" with my manager when we discussed where we as department were doing well and where we needed improvement.

  my boss scored an approval rating of over 85% on nearly every topic.

  Regarding the microphone handling. No sister was allowed to handle them. Only baptized approved brothers. The shame of it was, when there was no other approved brothers, the oldest elders would carry them. Poor guys, they could hardly walk, and yet they would still do it anyway.

  When the "Brothers" come to my house and apologize to me for being wrong, then I will believe you. Until then, the society discourages beards.
