Welcome! I could not agree more with Celia on this. If you want to teach your children about Jesus and God (Jehovah), there is better ways than allowing a Watchtower book rep. teach them. Ask the local Watchtower Sales rep why he needs to use that book. Tell him to use only the Bible and not any thing else and see how productive the "Bible Study" is. Ask him how can you have a Bible study, when the Bible is hardly used. Bottom line a true christian study does not need such books, that way the Bible speaks only for itself, and not what some man (men) think it says.
I grew up in that religion (if you can call it that) and all it does is lead to disfunctional adults that are worried about when Jehovah will come to distroy the world. This is three and a half years of recovery speaking. I could go on...
just got a look at the new jw calendar for 2004.. usually it's nauseating crap about preaching the good news around the globe, or like last year's effort, about how the 'truth' changes people from axe-weilding maniacs to nice christian family men.. this year's calendar is ok though.
no comments at all about how wonderful jehovah's witnesses are, in fact no editorial at all, just reasonable quality nature photos and a snipet of scripture about the beauty of nature or god's qualities.. .
these are probably suitable for the general public too - next time the jws visit ask them for some for you to give out as christmas presents!

i received this at work the other day.
it was sent to myself and quite a few others who work in my department via email.. i have to say, it sounded an awful lot like a story i heard from some dubs.. i just thought it was interesting.................dubs always take everything as their own!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

So they picked this one up from the Pentecostals (maybe). And I thought they just borrowed from the Seventh Day Adventests.
i guess because there are so few brothers in the congregations, sisters start writing to brothers that are in prison.
in prison, these ne'er do wells have no bills, no job to commute to, 3 meals, a bed, free medical insurance and loads of time to read the bible and the wts publications.

Since I work for a large institution with 1400-1500 inmates, I can answer how inmates get Watchtower Literature. JW congregations can coordinate with the prison/jail chaplain to set up religious services and distribute religious material. As long as the literature is inspected by a prison/jail official, it can be distributed to the inmate population. Talk about making placements and return visits! That would be a wonderful way to inflate the JW service hours.

a jw relative brought out something i actually had to agree with.
we were discussing positive vs. negative aspects of the "truth".
she brought out that the witnesses do not participate in war, and i thought 'gee, that's probably a good thing'.

Then there is their cheese danish and lemon-lime shasta sodas I loved. I think when food service was discontinued is about the same time I started to wake up to the reality of the Watchtower.

is the society really ok with this or is there like a rebel band of witnesses who set these up and run it against the societys wishes?
i wonder what the word in the kh is about sites like this.
i know when i was a jw i would never have believed i'd see something like this...not legitimately run by jw's anyway.
Hahaha, I did not look at the site long, but I wonder if it has a meter on it to determine a brother/sister's spirituality. After all, isn't that the only qualification a single JW needs to get married?
