  i feel it safe to say that the christ knew his fathers name, evidenced by the fact that he said he had made it known in the first century to all of his followers.. .

  "Jehovah" is not God's name. It's a made up word. So, no, we probably shouldn't use it. At least no more so than, say, "Bob" or "Steve" or "Pete" or "Dan"...........

  The very fact, that they raise such a fuss over that name, should tell anyone with even half a brain, that Jehovah is the correct name of God, because if it wasn't, no one among them would even open their mouths over the use of it.

  Hmm. Well I don't get upset over the use of the word "Jehovah". Just over the insistence that it is God's name (when it's not) and that it is essential for salvation.

  in george orwell's novel 'nineteen eighty-four' the capitulation of the principal protagonist is portrayed in his willingness to assent to the proposition that two and two make five.

  once he had denied objective reality, his mental conquest was complete and he was no longer truly the master of his own mind.

  nineteen eighty-four is in many ways, a very depressing read.. a charge commonly leveled at jehovah's witnesses is that the type of mind control envisioned by orwell has been and continues to be used on them.

  "Life" Brochures: 3 Easy Disproofs

  it may be time consuming and exhausting to correct all of the deceptions, half-truths and out of context quotes contained in the watchtower's new brochures, so i'll make it simple.

  here's 3 easy points that disprove all of their nonsense.. 1) australia proves evolution happened - what's the one country in the world with the weirdest animals on earth?

  an unbroken line of eucalyptus trees extended from Mt. Ararat in Turkey thousands of miles across Southeast Asia, across the land bridge that existed 4000 years ago and all the slow moving (or barely moving) koalas meandered from one tree to the next.

  That would explain why the Koalas crossed the land bridge to Australia and not any of the other land bridges that obviously existed connecting all the tens of thousands of islands around the globe (which the other animals must have used to populate all the other islands).

  And I guess the Kangaroos were just keeping their Koala buddies company on the journey...

  Australian brothers VERY negative comments regarding new "generations" ... some leaving Bethel..will this blow up in the Watchtowers face?

  a brother i spoke with from bethel to me seemed discouraged and lacking zeal latley...he spoke of leaving which shocked me since he was there for decades...he left to get a full time job!!!

  it was his whole reason for living since i've known him!

  others have said the new doctrine of "blended generations" of anionted seeing armagedon is "confusing" or "i just don't get it"...one brother my only close friend is furious and said i qoute..."they seem to be blowing smoke up our ass!

  Honestly, if the rank and file swallow the latest "generation" interpretation, well then the GB can pretty much convince them of anything, can't they?

  In 30 or 50 years or whatever the number is, they'll come up some new interpretation of "this generation", maybe regurgitating the 1995 or 2008 interpretation.... eventually they'll once again come up with a way to tie it to a 'short' time frame in some absurd manner..... and the dubbies will eat it up.

  Wash, rinse, repeat.

  Knowing that the GB claims to be the "anointed", and that "christ" means "anointed", Matthew 24:23,24 comes to mind:

  At that time if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or, 'There he is!' do not believe it. For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible.

  We might also read this: "...if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the anointed!' or, 'There is the anointed!' do not believe it. For false anointed and false prophets will appear..."

  God is not a good Samaritan

  i don't start threads very often, but yesterday i had something of an epiphany as i was doing some work in the yard.

  deep in thought, as i usually am when doing mundane tasks, it occurred to me that while jesus encouraged us to be "good samaritans", god himself is not a good samaritan.

  in the parable by jesus, a traveler is left beaten and robbed on the side of the road.

  Profound and true, and summarizes my position.

  Imo, the existence of a loving omnipotent God is just inconsistent/incompatible with human suffering.
