We've been made to feel important, and you're right- we're not. We're no important than anything else on this planet, and in this universe. Like everything else, we just happened, and like everything else, there will come a day where we no longer exist.

Who says God is listening to us?
by free2beme inwhat ignorance of us to think it is us that god is listening too.
perhaps it is the ants and the punishment on them is us human jerks who treat them like, 'ants!
' maybe their day will come and god will do their vengence for them and smite us down to make things right with their queen, the god!

When I was a kid, I felt like that all the time. I felt like I was in a giant box, which was the Earth, and somebody, possibly multiple somebodies, were all looking down into the box, watching everything.

I told my daughter I was leaving "the truth" this weekend.
by whathappened inlast week, i told you i was going to tell my daughter that i was leaving the truth this weekend and you all gave me sound advice.
but, i cannot keep a secret this heavy from the person i love most on this earth, my only daughter, who is beautiful inside and out.. well, i have always had an open and honest relationship with my daughter, and i guess it paid off.
this weekend i visited my daughter (who lives in another state) and i told her i was leaving "the truth.

Wow! I'm glad she handled it as well as she did, and it sounds like you definitely planted some seeds in her mind as well.

Atheism, the absence of someone to pray to.
by cyberjesus ini was talking several days ago with a believer who was telling me what an atheist is.
i personally do not have any gods, therefore i consider myself an atheist.
however this person was telling me that an atheist says there is no god.

I've never considered an atheist being someone who doesn't pray. I'm an atheist myself, and I call myself such because I believe there is no god.

I was 11, and I really didn't have any "OMG this is it" thoughts. I do remember how fast they got the 9/11 magazine out so that we could get it out to people fast, and it seemed weird to me at the time how it was used as this like, marketing technique. Like, 'Ooh, sell this while it's hot!"

attended a jw memorial talk yesterday
by man in black inafter being da'd for two years, i felt it was my duty to attend the memorial talk for an elderly brother who i greatly respected over the years.. i was quite nervous going back to the kh and seeing everyone.. well, my wife and i walked in, and most of the elders we saw just looked away, or acted like we were invisible.
several of our old friends winked, smiled, or waved secretly.
the hall was full, and this elder named jeff renfroe placed us in the 2nd row from the front.

I've questioned whether or not I'll go to a JW memorial when the time comes many times. On the one hand, I can't imagine not going to the memorial for my father, grandparents, etc...on the other hand, I don't know if I could take watching them turn my loved one's memorial, a time to speak about THEM, into an infomercial for themselves. It bugged me at my mom's memorial when I was still a JW, I can't imagine how I'd feel now.

Voting a conscience matter??
by Cynisister inhappy new year one and all!,.
the local elders sent a letter home with my hubby, pretty much stating that after "many" attempts to visit and speak with me, this letter is once again asking to meet because it came to their attention that i voted in the last pres.
election.

I seem to recall reading something that said the reason it's now a "conscience matter" is because legally, they cannot tell you not to vote, just as they can't legally tell you that you can't accept blood. I could be wrong on that, but it makes sense.
Of course, that means nothing inside the JW world.
