They use it as a way of keeping tabs on people ( grass to elders), instill fear in people ( to behave like the herd or be marked), information control ( dont talk about child abuse within the cong or its slander its not keeping kids safe, for example)

Are JWs the most gossiping people on earth?
by Londo111 inwe all gossip.
it is only human.
watchtower actually tries to instruct adherents not to gossip and it can land a jw in front of a judicial committee—some do try to follow this admonition.

Interesting meeting...I wonder what scritures Mormons do use to back up their belief in Joseph Smith as prophet?
The witnesses gave some typically evasive answers which in essence are un-truths. As to a normative relationship with Jesus - they say they "talk to him everyday". We all know that refers to a brief "in Jesus name" at the end of prayers.
In denying the GB was appointed the F&DS in 1919 they might just get away with being unconvinced of the exact date, but a Witness will be immediately disfellowshipped for denying the GB are the F&DS.
And other religons won't be destroyed at Armageddon? Someone ought to let mr Antony Morris III know, his convention talk will need re-writing!!!

To be honest I thought it was a compliment...like this is a fantastic post haven't got time now but will get back to it later. Or it's that others have said what you think and you mean to add your approval without waffle.
But that's just me.

Second in the Medal Table - Well Done TeamGB
by konceptual99 incan't believe it - gb is currently second in the medal table, with more golds and silvers combined than even china.
given the size of the nation it's an incredible achievement and we have won in some sports where other countries typically dominate.
i can't imagine we will stay in second but i am happy to enjoy the moment.. well done to the whole of team gb!.

Hi and.......Whoooooppeee!
Chris Hoyle was saying that it's Lottery funding that has made all the difference in the world to British Sport. Remember we didn't have a lottery until - 15/20 yrs ago... So this generation of athletes were trained up with the benefit of it ( and devoted parents, which it's a joy to watch on TV when their kids win... Would be a British mum who says she's going off to get pissed now!!!!)

Hi there, saw your post to @rebelfighter, nice to have another professional on the board....kind of you to lend your support to your EXJW or " awake" family! Anyway nice to meet you, be good to hear more about you, especially how you got around the Watchtower proscription ( see what I did there!) of higher education, whenever you feel ready and comfortable to do so of course.😀

Latest UPDATE UK Charity Commission investigation
by darkspilver inlatest update from 18 july 2016. good afternoon,.
i am writing to give you a quick update about our ongoing statutory inquiries into safeguarding and charities linked to jehovah’s witnesses.. as you may know, one of our inquiries is into watch tower bible and tract society of britain.
we opened this inquiry in 2014. watch tower then initiated what turned out to be protracted litigation against us.

I Fantastic news, read the guardian piece earlier today. WT is the only charity that has fought such an extensive and protracted campaign against the commission. Shameful. They are making quite a name for themselves worldwide. I like the way it mentions that many big corporations have come under investigation due to their poor handling of child protection issues - mentioning the BBC, The Church of England, The Catholic Church etc then of course the Watchtower.....and if that doesn't give the message to the Witnesses that they are just like all the other " worldly" organisation riddled with corruption and problems I don't know what will.

Complaining over post dislikes / downvotes
by Simon inlet's be clear: people have the right to like or dislike what they want - that is why the option is there.
as long as they are not doing it in a malicious way to retaliate or game the system, there is no policing the votes.
if you get a down-vote, live with it.

Abandoned by JW and yet trapped
by awake!watcher inhad an enlightening discussion with my 20 something, baptised, awake son.
he said he feels abandoned by the religion, and yet trapped at the same time.
i had never thought about it that way before, but can totally understand where he is coming from.

You sound like a lovely mum, actually a lovely couple. I always stress about my kids getting shunned by grandparents etc As much as it destroys me that my mother shuns Me, people always tell me that, as much as I worry for my kids, of course it doesn't affect them so much because they are a generation apart, and we are their buffet from "the outrageous fortune of life's slings and arrows ( and shunners)" - as you are your sons.
What I'm saying is although it's a difficult journey for him, no doubt about that, you cannot do more than you are in helping him steer a course. Even worrying about others like him! On a practical side note getting him involved in helping others makes outside connections/friendships and takes the focus off his own worries! Maybe something like volunteering for a cult hotline or similar that takes his own negative experience and moulds it into something positive( may help with the finding an empathetic mate bit too!).

A Womans Role In The bOrg
by pale.emperor ini just read a thread somewhere on here that someone has been accepted to bethel service along with his wife.
his wife has, of course, been assigned to work in the laundry room.
which compels me to write this little post.. now, i dont consider myself a "feminist" as such, but i definitely believe in equality.

Mounded From Clay
by konceptual99 injust sitting through this week's wt study and just spent 5 minutes listening to multiple answers where people are convinced that jehovah made humans from clay, literally forming adam like a sculpture then breathing life into him.. it's embarrassing to think i basically thought the same....

It's funny how the smart ones will always add " but we have all the minerals etc that you find in the soil in us!". Yeah... more going all round the houses in order to make these Stone Age stories make sense!
PS auto cue lol!
