  the latest watchtowel (march 2020) study edition has a question from readers ‘what evidence exists outside the bible that the israelites were slaves in egypt?’ from what i read in the bible unearthed there being nothing to base any claims on.

  the article gives a quote by ‘dr.

  bimson : “the biblical traditions of the bondage in egypt and of the exodus have a firm historical basis.” no links or sources given.

  Dr.John Bimson is a self confessed Christian, so his work is highly unlikely to be unbiased.

  I haven’t read his book, but having read the Bible unearthed (and watched the documentary} I fail to see from where he got the evidence to make such an assertion. He is not an archeologist and his book is old and out dated, as many watchtower so-called sources are. He probably based his ideas on the works of the likes of Isreali archaeologists Yigael Yadin, (the dude that excavated Masada) Chief of isreali defence forces and someone who used archeology to legitimise Israel’s rights to the land. In other words these guys had an agenda.

  Isreal Finklesteins work is far more recent and backs up Anony mous (above)Many departments of Biblical studies are funded and staffed by religious groups, so their work naturally has a bias toward historicity,

  The Craziness of an Average Bible Study

  last week i posted a thread asking about who knew any "real anointed" and got some cracking replies.. that got me to thinking, as someone brought up in the 70's and 80's in the watchtower religion, my experience of bible studeis in their homes and those who made it to the hall were mostly batshit crazy or at least people with some serious quirks.. i'll relate a few, none of whose names i remember with any clarity.. in our cong we had an older couple who were from london, but who had been in the 1950's in the circuit work in the mid west usa.

  they brought along some woman one night they had started a study with who told everyone cheerfully she was a recovering alcoholic and this was her cure (coming to the meetings).

  this went on for a few weeks until one night they brought her to the memorial and she was royally pissed, and i mean barely able to stand; and went up to the platform table and necked some wine.

  Number 9My take on it is also that going door to door, the JW's only seriously seem to engage in people with personality disorders or very needy people just looking for company but who by the nature of their personality defects, never would be ideal witness candidtates.

  Absolutely agree. The sad thing is, many of these folks hold on to aspects of this belief system for many years, which only damages them further and lowers their already destroyed self-worth.

  Keeping the lonely company is the one small good some witnesses do, like Anna Marina did. You’re a good soul Anna,Wish there were more like YOU in life.

  
  We had an alcoholic lady we had to buy this “Barley wine” cans for because she would fit if she didn’t get alcohol. She had lost kids to social services. She was a ghost of her former self, terribly damaged and hurting 😥

  Italy is gorgeous.

  I love Bordeaux, too. Place called Lacanau . South of France, too, of course. I speak some French so I know I’d pick it up again pretty quickly.

  Never been to the States but Oregon looks nice. The Rockies, Washington State? New England looks nice too. I’ve always wanted to visit New England because of Johnathan Richmond lol.Id also like to check out Vermont and Maine They look lovely, summer and winter.

  But if I could live anywhere, and I was rich, I’d probably move to Switzerland. And in the summer I’d just live on a boat. Nothing like messing about in the water.

  *since the bloody royals started going there, David Cameron et al it’s gone downhill though.

  Department Store Santa Claus - Do They Still Exist?

  i remember when stores would advertise that santa claus would be there from 2-4 pm on a saturday or something for several weeks before christmas.

  you would see them everywhere.. do they still exist in your area?.

  maybe parents finally realized that having a drunk guy with a white beard getting his jollies off with young children on his lap was not a good idea.. just my thoughts.

  the alternate reality that Minimus lives in, it is true that department store Santa's no longer exist and have been nearly banned by liberals as well as Christmas as a whole.

  🤣🤣😂😂😂 yeah and in that world Starbucks managers will give you the SACK for saying “Merry Christmas” to customers!!!

  Did You Know Any "Genuine"" Old School Anointed?

  growing up in scotland in the 1970s in scotland the anointed were few and far between, but we had one old dude in our cong who claimed to be one of the anointed.

  in the days when it was taken seriously.. i'd be curious how you viewed them.

  thing is, he wasn't an elder, or even a ministerial servant, just a plain old publisher.. but he was revered like he had a hotline to jesus.. the other week i was talking to a friend of similar age to me but who hung around the wt a lot longer than i did, and he just commented "oh him... he was a doddery old fool who used to just sit and piss himself.

  we had a couple of very elderly ones. I think “prickly” is probably the best way to describe them. But then so would you be if you’d sacrificed marriage and kids to sell books for no pay.🤨

  We also had the wife of one of our elders....the one playing a first class game of “Elder turf Wars”all over our territory.

  You know that feeling you get when there’s a partial solar eclipse obscured by cloud? That’s how it felt when she walked into the hall🧛‍♀️....you could actually feel the temperature lower by a degree or two🤣

  Upon learning of a terminal illness would you return to being a JW to appease your family?

  this is an hypothetical question...i am doing well.

  but i was thinking about how my jw family, grandchildren and all will feel when their inactive grandfather dies with no hope of being reunited in paradise.

  of course there would be immediate rejoicing if i came back to the "truth" and a surge of conditional love from the "friends".

  Good question.

  Im sort of in that situation with my poor dear brother. He’s a believer, but not a JW. In order to comfort him, I go along with what he wants to believe, even though I didn’t use to do so. 😰
