Covid-19 (Coronavirus) - Status Update Thread

this topic is to focus on status updates & advice (no opinion or politics please).. status.

latest status is that it's serious, probably isn't going to be contained and most large companies are making contingency plans, cancelling large events etc... which i don't think would happen if it was just people being alarmist.

the incubation period means it may have already spread further and infected many more people than are currently known, so expect jumps in the numbers over the coming days and weeks.. tracking.

. although they really don't appear to be under much strain - many are less busy than usual and nurses have time to do dance routines for social media posts. In fact, the few times I've been in hospitals they have never looked busy - it's always lots of people sat around chatting, never like the TV shows.

yes funny my brother was recently in Addenbrookes and he said he’d never seen it so quiet. The ward was practically empty.

cancelled elective surgery notwithstanding, I think it goes to show how many consultations are not necessary, in particular many casualty and GP visits. Lets be honest all know someone among that minority who repeatedly badger their doctors unnecessarily!! (having said that I don’t doubt there are folks with serious conditions not attending when they should)

some light entertainment ... there are apparently 39 beatles songs hidden in the picture, but depending on how to interpret some of them you may come up with more.. please post one each, to give everyone a go, and describe where the song is in the picture (so it's not just coming up with a list of beatles songs).

Differences between UK and US Corona Virus TV Updates

i'm in the uk, and most days over the last 2 weeks i've watched the 5pm uk government update on the corona virus situation which includes questions from the media.

generally speaking i've found the whole update, including the questions and answers, to be respectful, informative and non combative, with, to the best of my recollection, very little mention of politics and blame.

certainly no political point scoring.

I’m no Trump supporter but I respect him enormously for being the only one with the guts to hold the Chinese govt feet to the fire. The WHO management need sacking forthwith.

Hoping Boris gets better soon. We are all feeling awful about this.

My ExElder Best Friend Has Coronavirus

this has been a horrible month.

my best friend’s wife just called to tell me that my friend had to be hospitalized due to severe coronavirus complications.

he has severe pneumonia, is put on a ventilator and is in a coma .

I’m so so very sorry minimus this must be devastating for his wife. The fact you are separated not only from your partner but everyone that can give you comfort is devastating.

They have put him in an induced coma to allow his lungs to rest which must mean ventilation can help him....that at least is good news. His sex weighs against him unfortunately.

Is he on the heavy side at all?

Were they using gloves and strict hand washing? It’s so worrying when we are all isolating yet these tragedies happen. I think we all need to access masks now minimus.

some people say this decade is the most advantage and so they are happiest in the present.

some long for the good old days before cell phones and computers.

if you could live in an era or decade , when would it be?.

The seventies....especially the endless summer of 1975 in the UK!!! I was a very young child but my family were all alive👵🏼and well and healthy. We had a big wedding with the whole family plus un-divorced parents 🥺and I was flying high at my lovely primary school with top-of-the-class grades😇🤓

Plus....the greatest music decade!!👨🏻‍🎤

Am I allowed to stand up for myself and change my personal history?!!👩🏼‍🎨

I well believe the person that claimed Watchtower strictly uses only the same 50 scriptures in all heir talks and publications.

No-Sew Covid-19 Face-Mask using Shop Towel

now that the medical advice seem to be coming round to actually giving honest advice, it's good to have a mask.

weeks wasted and god knows how many infected that didn't need to be, but now there's no excuse for not wearing one ... other than you may not have any.. you can make them of course, if you have a sewing machine.

but even if you don't, you can make one using the blue shop-towel, a couple of elastic bands and a stapler.

I went looking for Masks over 6 weeks ago...all crazy expensive in the UK and those N95 masks you could buy in B & Q (probably like your Home Depot} were like £3 a piece which for single use is absurd considering the number you’d go through. We are isolating but still have to go out almost daily to buy food as it’s not possible to get deliveries. I do get an organic veg box but only because I already had an account for sending my brother them. He has only just managed to get a regular food delivery slot and he’s one of the one and a half million UK residents on the super vulnerable list, being on chemo for pancreatic cancer.

edit: most of the patients my brother attends out patients with have similarly struggled to get delivery slots

Question For People Being Put Onto A Ventilator - How Is It Powered?

imagine you or a loved one have to go onto a ventilator and are given the choice of how it should be powered.

what are people picking?.

coal or oil powered energy.

Well initially it’s hand powered....at least in an emergency setting.

As long as “we have hands” no one that could be saved with a ventilator will be allowed to die. At least that would have been the case in the hands of the staff I worked with.

Legal Concerns About "Zoom" Meetings!

this whole "zoom" thing has got me wondering whether some of it is legal or not.

if a person has to dress up for a zoom meeting the way the watchtower dictates, doesn't this really go "beyond" cult?.

even the cults who committed mass suicide were able to dress the way they wanted for their meetings.

They are a conservative christian sect. They have some high-control practices. But they are not a cult.

Simon are you feeling quite well?

They tick almost every box most experts (and those with lived experience) designate as cult behaviour.

Ive noticed because you find people’s unnecessary and arbitrary criticism of JWs as annoying, In your frustration you tend to jump to the other extreme!!

About the Memorial and Unleavened Bread Thing..

unleavened bread has no yeast in it.

and yeast is a symbol of sin, right?

not good for symbolising whatever it's supposed to symbolise, obviously.. so my beloved missus, who i believe is possibly the best cook in the world (although i do have a soft spot for chef nigella lawson with those magnificent knockers and all) is an absolute ace at baking sourdough bread.. and yes, sourdough bread - especially when toasted - is absolutely yummy.

sb: is not "leaven" another name for sourdough ? yeast a concentrate of that? how about baking powder?

Yes I’ve made Sour dough and in your ‘starter’ is simply the natural bacteria that is in the atmosphere....lasts for donkeys years if you look after it (“feed” it).

so I think Snuggle bunny that technically it is ‘leavened’ but don’t quote me on it.
