J.W's and " but that is Pagan !".

there have been a number of threads touching on this before, leolaia for one, back in the day when we had many an erudite poster, showed the pagan origins of many things, including the passover , and by extension, the jw " memorial".. what prompted my thought on this was a conversation i had the other day with a young lady, never a jw, who said the jw stance on birthday celebrations, was groundless and cruel.. i thought later that jw's do a " pick and mix " as usual, as they do with so many other things, on what they condemn as "pagan" and what they accept and practice.. the institution of marriage itself is pagan, marriages were performed long before the bible was written, and long before the nation of israel was formed.

yet jw's perform marriages, use the veil, and the ring, all pagan.

the names of the days of the week, the months of the year, all pagan.. i guess you guys can think of many more things ?

If Watchtower had actually gone for this whole new calendar thingummy You just know they’d all make sure their bonking occurred so that their babies would be born on Gods day the 1st of Jehovah.

Witnesses are pre programmed to be superstitious.

JW feeling persecuted yet (California)

california, after failing to ban all religious gatherings (failed in court) has now banned all singing and chanting in religious places, including if you are on a live stream and the only person around.. i haven't heard a peep yet from the jw.borg about how to handle this new 'persecution' on religion, the only thing that came up with a search was this: .

As DesirousOfChange mentioned, the Borg is laying low. IMO, that is a smart move in a political sense. If you had half of a congregation affected with the virus, it would be considered "bringing reproach on God's name" or some other thing when it was broadcast on the news and throw a negative light on the Borg.

watchtower is protecting its assets. Because they know their real assets - their cash cows if you will - are the legions of mostly older and often unfit JWs who still deeply believe and still deeply dig into their pockets to donate. Without this their backbone, healthy and able to obey, watchtower is lost.

i have a lot of stories about elders, some funny, some not so.. were all your experiences with elders bad?.

They knew what I was doing and one of the last visits they came out and said you know why we are here why don't you just ask us to disfellowship you.

Hang on....I thought it was about your eternal life. Don’t they want to save your life? “Ask us to disfellowship you?”!!! All casual, like?!

Food Boxes given out by Society

anyone else get a food box delivered by local congregation to your door - allegedly by the society?

weird.

i looked online and found a couple of youtube channels saying the society is taking food from food banks and giving it only to their congregations.

I note farms to families has a remit to distribute the boxes to community and faith groups....and that it should go to those in need.

Watchtower definitely has pensioners, disabled or needy members....but because Watchtower couldn't give a stuff and offers nothing in the way of charity or support it has no idea who the needy are among its membership.

Someone recorded a service group meeting about it and the elder claimed the society wanted them to make sure to know it was from "Jehoooovah".

Further they should keep it 'secret', which is Witness code for "tell everyone and their dog".

I mean isn't it absurd! Why in the world would it be necessary to keep a food box in a pandemic 'secret'?

Good grief these people need to get a life!

i will try to post a link.. jtg.. australia.. institutions refusing to join the national redress scheme are "doubling down" on the crime of child sexual abuse, prime minister scott morrison says.. mr morrison and social services minister anne ruston have warned institutions they may lose funding and tax concessions if they fail to sign up by tuesday's deadline and will be named and shamed.. "all institutions are doing in not joining is doubling down on the crime and doubling down on the hurt," they said in a letter to 25 institutions.. "we consider it to be reprehensible that you have failed to sign up to the scheme.".

the jehovah's witnesses is among the organisations that has refused to sign up, arguing it does not have the institutional settings of other faith-based institutions that the redress scheme is designed to cover.. senator ruston is set to name the non-participating institutions on wednesday, when she will announce what action the federal government will take against them.. "we urge you to join the scheme not because of concerns about being identified, but because it is the right thing to do," the minister and mr morrison said.. "it is the right thing to do by survivors and their families and it is what every, decent, honest, australian demands.".

I doubt Jehovah’s witnesses have ever been in receipt of commonwealth funding :( so that’s not going to phase them.

I also note they got in that little piece about there being “less than 10 applicants” in their response, so any Jehovah’s witnesses or bible studies who take the time to read the press will dismiss those few applicants as “bitter apostates” or mentally ill. I only wish the govt, in naming and shaming Watchtower, had mentioned the 1006 cases unearthed by the C.A.R.C. That may have shaken up anyone reading the govt’s statement.

Even when guilt is established, they still don’t report to the police. Hence, this has nothing to do with the 2 witness rule. Its all about them not wanting to let the authorities in what they perceive as being “their business”.

Yes, of course there’s an element of that.

But as in everything I think the main reason is to protect their image - not to the police, the public or judiciary - but to Jehovah’s witnesses themselves. Above everything else they don’t want Jehovah’s witnesses to see A. there are criminals among them and B. that consequently Jehovah’s witnesses are just like any other religion and just like any other group of people.

Loss of face to ordinary Jehovah’s witnesses is more important to them even than money, because essentially “The Brand” is money in the bank to them.

if you download app on google play store and click the headphones, a pop up requiring user to click pop up to enable audio recording is displayed.

i'm minorly aware of the evolution of tech and tracking scandals.

we used to use this scripture to show that there was going to be a future resurrection.

but recently i got to thinking about it.

if the apostle paul was right in saying that the righteous on death would be changed in the twinkling of an eye from earthly life to heavenly glory why would there be a future resurrection needed for the righteous?
