Go Bag and Catastrophes

i live with my parents in law and yesterday, my mother in-law was very nervous about an email she got from the brothers in her congregation.

it was asking if she would be able to receive people over at our house should there be a catastrophe.

so, she asked me if i would agree with this.

Exactly!! When I found this board I first heard about "Go bags". I appreciate we don't have severe weather events like you guys in the states and other areas do, but this "Go Bag" for witnesses business was all new to me!

When I was in Jehovah was going to protect us no matter! We didn't need to make our own preparations!

Another thing was choosing houses for after Armageddon! We were taught that no buildings from "Satan's system" would survive, so it never entered our minds to think anything so, frankly, materialistic

My husband's father was a top dressing pilot. Only 6 ever got to retire as far as I know in new Zealand. Dangerous job for a pilot.

Used to teach, always in old planes with low stalling speeds.

🤣😂😂 Yes!! For me the one and only time it was on the autobahn in Bremen when my girlfriend's husband was dropping me off after field service at the train station on his motorbike. A huge-BMW -I-have-no-clue!

i am an atheist and i disapprove of the death penalty.

i remember michael dukakis, when he was a usa presidential candidate, saying i he was opposed to the death penalty - even for rapists and murderers.

Here's a story. You tell me the answer ....

what happened to my neighbours son. A boy who played with my twins until a couple years ago when he outgrew them (he's two years older).

He was a nice, well mannered boy. Not the brightest, but anyway. I loved him. He had a few very odd traits. When I first met him he was 2 1/2 and he would literally run into the road in front of cars if he mum started to talk to someone. Terrifying. He would come to play and for no rhyme nor reason he would break or damage something! Almost every time he came around, which was often.

After some years he was diagnosed with ADHD.

He was bullied at school.

His mother was the biggest narcissist I have EVER met. EVER. Which I think explained the running into the road for attention. A mother who regularly beat him until I threated to report her. She did stop and claimed it was a cultural thing.

His father was a nice, gentle man who took him to football practice and was the family backbone.

One day the police came around looking for his mother and said there's been an accident. My heart stopped beating ....but it was his father. Killed whilst riding his bike, during lockdown.😥 The boy tried to throw himself out of his bedroom window.

Almost instantly the boy changed. Started smoking weed on his doorstep with the ne'r do well's. He was so, so out of it each day in the way the young can get so smashed, you know?

Then something terrible happened. He got in a fight and stabbed someone with a screwdriver he was carrying (two girls!) It will be a political judgement because there's a big anti-violence against women thing in London ATM, due a policeman murdering a woman he kidnapped.

What do we do with a 16 year old like that? You tell me!😥

I agree locking people up, especially young people, for non violent crime is beyond absurd. It only serves to institutionalise them, to teach them how to be crooked, to make them feel they have no future so give up and rely on crime etc etc

I'm sort of contradicting myself here, too, but the moment a person cannot be redeemed, cannot be "treated" as such, there is no reason to put them in jail. And there are many such people...the psychopaths we were talking about earlier, for example. It is a severe personality disorder. Do we punish people when they have a disorder? Hopefully not. Do we treat them then? No, because it's not possible. So the only answer is long term high security psychiatric placement, which is what we do (in the UK at least).

i had a legal divorce from my ex wife( law of the land).

i was told not to expect to get remarried because my divorce was not legal to watchtower.. my divorce and situation seem to be a talk of gossip and even a many local needs talks.

i wanted to take some more schooling to get a better job, there was a local needs talk on higher education and it's dangers.

Me too. Isn't it interesting quite a few of us feel this way?

If you'd asked me when I was a believer I'd have said execution was institutionalised revenge and I was totally against it.

As you say some people cannot be redeemed, unfortunately nature made them that way in the case of psychopaths. However, even though I'm actually deeply sorry for psychopaths, the fact is they take life - often making their victim feel utterly terrified in the process. Because I think there is no after life I see murder as even more heinous and we must do all we can to prevent it.

I used to believe at least the victims will be resurrected, which made me more able to forgive ...now? As you say, we cannot allow a Ted Bundy etc to exist within our society They are far too dangerous. And child killers, for me, are beyond the pale. These days I would volunteer to throw the switch on them. It's not judgementalism, it's pragmatism. Life is precious and murder is the one crime you can never make right. It would have to be for cases where there was no doubt who committed the crime. Prior to DNA testing I'd be less sure as I know there have been horrendous miscarriages of justice, which is my one reservation when it comes to the death penalty.

As an aside I had a mate who was a Pierrepoint , related to Britain's last hangman, lol. He was an artist.

back in the day, tons of witnesses were brought in the “back room “ to be counseled by elders because of their dress and grooming.

some elders frowned on mustaches or hair that went past a certain point on a male.

women were regularly harassed because their skirt was too long or too short or had a slit on the side.

MMMIt was only a big deal because a KH Karen overheard it in a conversation and felt that she had a duty to keep the congregation clean....and hairy!

I mean what we should really be talking about is the insane amount of gossip in the Congs...with flappy ears talking about things that are not even remotely their business!! I'd be utterly ashamed to go reporting such things!

JW parents seem to be in a kind of competition as to who could beat their child the most.

A woman posted that a very, very young first time mother's new born baby began to fuss during the meeting. The mother began to lightly "spank' it on its back!! Even the JW matriarchs looked on with horror and she was quietly told the baby was far too young for such treatment.

I was utterly gobsmacked. If that's not proof of brain washing I don't know what is, since it goes against every instinct a new mother has!!😳😳😳

Why did Lloyd Evans say in one of his latest video

so i was watching an evans video he just put out where he was interviewing a man about how the cult treated his daughter who was rapped as a criminal.

the man said his wife's first experience with an apostate site was here.

i could tell by the look on his face he did not like that site and then could not help himself and said that he could not recommend going to this site.

He also wrote that booklet "How to leave Jehovah's witnesses" after he got the idea from another Youtuber, an Irish guy, who wrote a book on how to leave the watchtower but gave it away FREE. Lloyd, of course, not only copied his idea but tried to charge people for putting THEIR stories in the book,too (to pad it out).

I think JWsurvey is a good site essentially because "John Redwood" is a really excellent journalist and writes fantastic pieces. Also Sasha and his wife began offering support to people from the site, which is great. Whatever you say about Lloyd he's very good at attracting some excellent people to work with him.
