  TTWSYF The example of Jesus calling his mother 'woman' is not derogatory as the WTS would have you believe. Jesus was never disrespectful of or to his mother.

  Yes I fully agree. Watchtower doesn’t really listen to their own reasoning sometimes. They hold Jesus up as the moral goalpost in whose footsteps you should walk, yet make assertions such as the one we’re discussing. That Mary was of no special significance to Jesus because he called her “woman”- thus insulting & rejecting her - because his mother’s, brother’s and sister’s were his disciples and whomsoever does the word of God.

  Watchtower always has to read the most curmudgeonly and least charitable meaning into everything!! Rather than the kinder, more obvious meaning - in this case that he has many other Mothers, brothers and sisters.

  Derek Chauvin - The Right to a Fair Trial

  anyone following the derek chauvin trial?.

  if you are actually following it, not just listening to the media, you will likely realize that there is a huge gap between what is going on in court and what is being reported in the media.. if the trial was fair, i think he should be acquitted.

  there is plenty of reasonable doubt about the cause of death (his dealer doesn't want to testify because he could be guilty of 3rd degree murder for selling him a fatal amount of fentanyl) and even doubt over whether the officer even had his knee on the guys neck or did anything counter to what they were meant to do as per policy.. but is it fair?

  Firstly, did Floyd swallow the fentanyl tablets when he was arrested to avoid being charged for possession?(common occurrence) If so, there was not enough time for the tablets to cause an overdose.....it would take at least 20 or 30 mins to begin to take effect.

  
  

  Secondly, an addict usually knows his limits. He would be unlikely to swallow an amount he knew would be lethal - arrested or not (it’s not worth dying over) - and having three times the “lethal” dose for a NON user is not necessarily going to have the same effect on an addict. Habituation raises the level at which a drug will cause harm to a person.

  All these things will be assessed by an expert witness in court*. The initial coroner will not necessarily be such an expert.

  And thirdly, should breaking the law, being an addict or passing off fake notes (because you are an addict) be deserving of a death sentence?!

  Most cops in this situation get away with it. Unfortunately for Chauvin, he is going to be made to pay for generations of sociopaths within the police service. 2% of the population have sociopathic tendencies. Not all of them act on these tendencies and not all of them are in positions of power - medicine, nursing, policing, the armed forces, social work - where their behaviour negatively impacts members of the public or even puts them in danger, as is the case with Chauvin (unfortunate name, too!)

  * I would hope. It’s surprising how poor some lawyers are (as we’ve seen with Watchtower court cases. We’ve also seen some amazing legal minds at work too, of course)

  do you think there will be a noticeable drop-off in attendance as we have read on here that many have left or faded?

  will there be a mass selling of halls?

  I agree because I think an awful lot of PIMO’S and doubters, etc, will have used the pandemic as cover for a fade. Some may also use the old “stumbling” excuse not to return to Jeeehova, too.

  Even for believers it’s going to be hard to give up the luxury of simply switching on the PC in your slippers twice a week, as opposed to dressing up head to toe, rounding up the kids and traipsing out in the cold

  Definite drop off in numbers. This drop may work in watchtowers favour in that they’ll be able to use it as cover/a reasonable excuse for a big drop in their yearly print out of “official” numbers (that in truth was happening way before the pandemic started).

  i have a family member who is a remote bethelite and they are working on creating content for online "university" for bethelites to teach them skills that are needed at bethel.

  from what i've seen it is a lot of recorded content saved on their sharepoint sites.

  i haven't seen any information on this from this site or reddit which i'm more active on.

  Very interesting. No I've not heard about this.

  I could see it being useful for computer science courses, for sure. Anything connected with digital design or film making perhaps.

  I can't see how it would be useful for legal training or accountancy, though, (two things they need in abundance). Or even Realtor or Estate Agency training, since these things require you to be registered with state bodies at the very least.

  Thoughts anyone.....?

  Actually from the point of view of a believer, yes they are interesting and certainly contradicts watchtower's view of Mary.

  On a side note I deeply insulted a Catholic workmate once when I quoted that scripture (oft raised by witnesses) when Jesus says to Mary "woman what have I to do with you?". True enough she had never heard of it - because like all religions The Catholic church also cherry picks.

  Nevertheless I destroyed our friendship with that one arrogant and thoughtless sentence.

  a couple of years ago the wt began their program of selling off dedicated kingdom halls and consolidating congregations into fewer halls.. had they kept these halls, more sparsely occupied as they were, they could by now be bringing everyone back while respecting the distancing laws.. jw’s love to find reasons how jehovah foresaw something and guided them, but it never works the other way when they make a decision that later on turns out to have been a bad idea..

  Hoser interesting comparison, those stats from the business world. We know if nothing else watchtower is first and foremost a business.

  If they were smart they'd pay attention to business research....except of course they think they haven't reached the 3rd gen yet! They're still part of the second generation, overlapping the first!!

  I think Jesus was more of a bird guy myself.

  Betcha he was like snow White in Shrek and could just whistle and have thousands of birds at his beck and call (or should that be "BEAK and call"). Probably where all that bread and fishes just appeared from!

  I doubt it will be popular with members of the public for a very long time, especially as the virus will mutate in the next few years and we will need booster jabs.

  JWs may be a physical risk to the public but I actually think the public are a spiritual risk to JWs now and watchtower knows it. The child abuse scandals are well known In the western, developed countries and communities in Africa are also starting to become aware and informed by all accounts with exjw You tubers from Africa, too.

  The message is getting out there which is another reason people like Antony Morris are doubling down on the "evil apostate we must hate" garbage.

  Hate speech toward those who don't share your beliefs is no longer acceptable. Could that be yet another reason watchtower is reluctant to restart the D2D work? After all, their whole belief system is based on the destruction of the undeserving wicked ones .....in other words, the death of those who don't share their beliefs.
