Terminology the Society Hates?
by toweragent inin my most recent talk, i got counseled for using some terms that were not prefered.
for example i said "new testament" rather than "the christian greek scriptures".
i also used the term "gospel", but even worse, i made reference to the "synoptic gospels" and the "gnostic gospel".. i guess i never thought of it before, but when i looked at the societies information on the matter they always say things like, "the so-called new testament..." or "the so-called synoptic gospels..." why with all the "so-called?".

The term "the Society" has been deprecated in 2001 when the Governing Body stepped off from their positions as directors and executives of the corporations. Since then it's "the branch office" in most letters from the branch or "the organization" / "Jehovah's Witnesses" in other contexts.
The Standards Manual also lists several wordings that are to be avoided.

Aug 1/87 WT p 32 - WT Index 1930-1985 has indexed EVERY publication
by berrygerry ininteresting quote on the back page.. "this new book has indexed every publication produced by the watch tower bible and tract society since 1930.".
(also on the cd wt library).
funny then that the life everlasting book (1966) never made it in..

berrygerry: The "1930-1985 Index" has references to the "Life Everlasting" book under the keywords that reference it in the printed index, but the book itself is not included in "Watchtower Library", because the CD-ROM contains only publications released from 1970 onward.

Does anyone have the "Elders / MS meeting Video on shepherding those who are depressed?
by stuckinarut2 indoes anyone have that appalling video that was shown the elders at the last elders school, then was shown again to all elders and ms in the last co meeting?.
i watched it at our meeting, and wished that i had recorded it...as i could not believe just how bad and insensitive it was!.
sure the first clip was showing what not to do...but the supposed correct clip showing what to do, was even worse!.

My translation:
The third praise addressed to the preexistent "Word" represents the climax: "and God was the Word". Vs. 1c reads "God" rather than the arthrous concept of God in vs. 1b, it is without article and emphasized at the beginning of the sentence (in Greek). By picking up the last word of vs. 1b, the hymn confers the "Word" the state of being God. The leading "and God" is a predicate, but under no circumstances does it identify the Word with the previously mentioned "with [the] God". Thus the "Word" is also being called "God" like one with whom it shares a very close relationship. The state of being God designates both the physis (or nature) of the "Word" as well as of God himself. The word "God" in the sentence of vs. 1c is not the subject, as in Luther's translation, "God was the Word", but the predicate noun. The "Word" is not "[the] God" of vs. 1b (which refers to God the Father). At the same time, the Logos shares the same kind as God, has a divine nature, it is has the same nature as God, in fact it can be translated as, "and of divine kind was the Word". The statement of faith regarding monotheism found in the Old Testament and Judaism is also being respected in this Hellenistic, pre-Johannine hymn. But, as we have already emphasized, in no way do we have here a straight identification. The hymn sings about the fact that in the beginning there have existed two divine beings, or persons, one next to the other, and also one subjected to the other. The "Word" is the divine revealer, so that only within him humans meet God himself. Only through this "Word"-revelation is God closely present and who gets to interact with the revealer gets in reality to interact with God.

Yes, that was the current understanding back then in 1985, when they published the Creation book, for 10 more years. Even the latest reprints still have that piece of 'old light.' But Witnesses know that the information had been since updated three times (1995, 2008, 2010) and they no longer make a case out of it.

Nothing new in the fact that only indented paragraphs are to be counted. This means that if a page starts with a paragraph continuing from the previous page (phsyically the first paragraph on the page, but not indented), followed by a subheading (phsyically the second paragraph, not indented) and the first body text paragraph under that subheading (physically the third paragraph, indented), then paragraph 1 on this page is this third paragraph. It's always been like this when giving publication references. In study publications paragraphs are numbered directly for easier reference and there too the subheadings are not numbered.
