My 16 year old son is starting to see the light
by vivalavida inon march this year (2009) i dad myself from the jws.
of course, it was nice to finally feel free, real free, after over 40 years of mind control.
i don't write much here but i feel this is worth sharing.. one measure i took before leaving was to take my then 15 year old son for a walk and explain to him that things would be different from the jws standpoint, but that i would always love him and that he could come to me at any time.. one thing that was very hard for me, is the fact that i separated from my wife, with which i was having problems for a long time already.

Vida & OZ
Thank you for sharing your personal experience with us. Many like myself are in the same situation, this is encouraging to here positive results from others no matter how small. My children are pre-teens so I have to be extra careful on what I say and how I say it as they are in a very impressionable age. The last thing I need is for their mother to start calling me an apostate. Just like yourself (vida) my daughter told me about a 2 weeks before getting baptized, my ex did not mention one thing about her taking her questions. At that point if I objected it would make me look like some opposer in my daughters eyes so I regrettably let her get baptized. I will be addressing that and my son getting baptized ASAP

UN scandal
by inbetween inlately i did a lot of reading regarding the un scandal, the org being a ngo for 10 years.
i tried to read both sides, the comments on jwfacts.com, as well as the defense at jehovahsjudgment.co.uk.. and then the endless discussion on topix.com between thirdwitness and alanf and others.. while i am sure, the way the org handled the whole situation, especially after the article in the guardian, was plain wrong, instead of openly confessing a mistake, it was done secretely and only after inquiry, and made it look like a cover-up.. .
however, considering the whole issue, i think it comes down to one question:.

I am not an apologist, I just try to put things in the right perspective.
Are you kidding me, what is so complicated about this topic. The WT has an association with the great BEAST.....period.
http://www.un.org/dpi/ngosection/criteria.asp
Criteria for association with DPI
The NGO must support and respect the principles of the Charter of the United Nations (Is that so freakin hard to understand)
The NGO must have the commitment and the means to conduct effective information programmes with its constituents and to a broader audience about UN activities by publishing newsletters, bulletins and pamphlets; organizing conferences, seminars and round tables; or enlisting the attention of the media;
I just don't understand how people complicate things that are clear as day.

TV advice PLEASE :-)
by brainwashed-from-birth ini am going to buy a tv today to watch movies on and play playstation.
i have a choice between a 73 inch mitsb.1080 hdtv or a 52 inch sony lcd/hdtv?
the lcd seems brighter and more clear, but it is smaller.
-
LatinxJW
Forget the mitsb and the sony (i have a Sony 32 lcd), get a samsung they are the benchmark these days in lcd's. Cnet rated the Samsung LN52b750 one of the best lcd's they have ever tested. I just ordered the Samsung LN52b630 myself.
In the USA we say the smaller the TV the less teeth you have.....

A question for all ex jws AND JW's here, btw I'm new too
by EndofMysteries inso far quite dissappointed from what i've seen.
this is very very important, first i"ll address the non/ex jw then i'll address the jw's (jw's scroll down if don't wanna see the first part).
i see so many who have concluded that it was not 'god inspired', a lot of what is being done, and their conscience told them that many things conflicted with jesus teachings and the bible.

While you have judged me on assumptions I will just state facts about your 100 or so lines of comments.
Nice and simple:
You have come to your understanding of the bible no different than anyone else who has read it hundreds of years before you. Not really that special is it.
How can an imperfect mind find perfection in what you would call perfect writings?

Did YOU Disturb The Consciences Of Others?
by minimus inthe watchtower is always saying how we have to watch everything we do or say because we just might offend somebody's conscience and lord knows we wouldn't wanna do that!.
did you find yourself offending the consciences of others?.

To me, the whole idea of stumbling others was just another form of control. It was a way to keep you from doing things they didn't want you to do, but had no scriptural basis for forbidding.
So very true, when I sat down and spoke to my children about getting re-married. The first words out of their mouth were that they wanted to be in the wedding party. Needless to say after their mother and the borg got wind of it they no longer wanted to even attend, why because they did not want to stumble anyone since I was DF'd. This was 5 years after separation, it was heartbreaking not having my children there.

I hate that it gets to me!!
by Newborn injust back from lunch and met two different former good friends from my congregation (i live in a small town) and they, of course, turned their backs on me... and it makes me feel strange and bad even though they're the ones who should really feel bad.... how can i learn to ignore it??.
makes me both sad and angry at the same time.
grrrr.

I smile and shake my head while doing it, I don't give them the satisfaction of believing they are hurting me in some way. Living a fruitful good life is the biggest slap to the WT as they think you will crumblel and die without them. They are just sinful men nothing more nothing less, who are they to judge.
I think many of us have felt the same way, but it gets much easier as you realize that the GB are bunch of self-rightrous men in BK playing Jehovah.
I find it so funny that GOD chose BK NY to be the center of his earthly org, out of all other places.
FACT:
RZA, GZA, Ol' Dirty Bastard are members of the prestigious WU TAN CLAN organization, they are from BK NY as well. Imagine that....

How many of you knew about the"Jesus is not your Mediator" teaching when you were JWs??
by Lady Liberty inhi everyone.... just curious how many of you knew when you were active, about the societys official teaching regarding jesus the mediator.
i was floored to find in my research, that they teach jesus is the mediator for the 144,000 only.
and it is only by our association with them that we might have salvation.. i don't know about you guys but i was blown away when i learned they taught this.

The Final Nail in the Coffin of your JW Career
by jookbeard ini know there has been countless threads on this, some say the paedophile scandal, others say the blood ban, some say the conduct of their elders, others say the petty rules etc.
but there is usually one thing that seals every one's fate, tips you over the edge, finishes you off.i was fading, very closely to full inactivity, off the book study list, and very sporadic meeting attendance, which took me to the very last time i set foot in my kingdumb hall, this is what happened;.
it was the memorial of 1994, i hadn't set foot in the place for months, but thought a show at the memorial would keep the wife happy and the elders at bay for a bit longer, i drove to the hall being careful not to get there too early(the wife was already there and had saved me a seat) i walked up to my seat about mid way in the hall so a lot could see me, it was packed probably about 200 there, as i sat down ( about 3/4 mins to go) a sister in front of me turned around and said"we haven't seen you in a long time!

Unfortunately the molestation of my 4 yr old daughter by an elder's son and the cold hearted treatment my family recieved from the CO and the body of elders, the CO was supposed to be of the FDS. How do you claim to be the TRUTH when you can't even display one of Jesus greatest qualities like compassion.

First I would like to say hello to everyone, I’ve been lurking for several weeks now and have been shocked, saddened, angered and more importantly enlightened all within that time. Seeking the truth is the last thing the WT wants anyone to be doing.
I like some never really thought twice about Jesus not being my mediator, I just assumed it without really questioning the WT’s true stance on the matter. Most JWs will just be ok with the anointed (mere men in BK fear mongering JW’s) being their mediator, ignoring what their own bible says in 1 Tim 2:5-6. When you hear "in Jesus name" at the end of every single prayer what else are you supposed to believe......!!!!!!!!!!!
Sadly this is a huge doctrinal conundrum that will continue to plague all the millions of sheep kept in darkness. I have resolved not to lose my children to this without a fight…..!!!!
