I read in the Bible that baptism was a necessary step for believers. I told the person I was studying with that I thought I should be baptized and was told I needed to study more and give the right answers to a bunch of questions. THAT should have been a clue, but I was already sucked into cult thing. Ended up getting dunked in the fall of 1973.

Tim Tebow CANCELS Speaking at First Baptist Church in Dallas
by RubaDub inlooks like the pressure was on tebow not to go to that dallas church.. pastor robert jeffress, head of the 11,000 member church, has called islam and mormonism "religions from the pit of hell" and "you can't be saved by being a jew.
" he also has said that gays should not be allowed in the military since "70% of the gays have aids.
" regarding president obama, he stated that electing obama to a second term would "lead to the rise of the anit-christ.".

I write about cults and false religions and I I didin't know who this pastor is. Probably Tebow gets thousands of requests to speak every year, all of which will be processed by agents or personal assistants. So an invite comes in, it looks good, he's free and somebody accepts for him. When he gets more information he cancels because he figures out this isn't a group he wants to talk to.
It is entirely possible that he is neither stupid, nor bigoted, he just isn't personally acquainted with every church in America.

Does fear of military service motivate baptisms?
by gingerbread inas i approached the post office just before my 18th birthday to register for the selective service, i was scared to death.
i was registering for "the draft.
" i'd heard all the stories of young witness men being brought before registration boards to justify their neutrality stand.

I turned 18 in 1969. I was not connected with JW's in any way at the time. EVERYBODY I knew was trying to find away to avoid the draft. If we ever reinstate the draft something big will have hit the fan, the draft may well be the least of anybody's troubles.

Deteriorating content of the WT
by His Excellency inhas anyone noticed the recent deterioration in the quality of wt's contents lately?..
the spiritual food seems to be getting more and more shitty these days.
i have given a thought to what could really be going wrong, and if it is likely that some on the wiriting committee is consciously dishing out those nonsense to facilitate more poeple seeing ttat.

When I left in 1988 it seemed to me that the the literature was very tired. It's done nothing but get worse since then, from what I've seen. The "spiritual food" is going the way of Burger King. While other places update the menus and choices to meet changing tastes the WTBS is still trying to sell the same old stuff.
And I think the R&F knows it. From time to time I see dubs doing street work in downtown Seattle. They look broken, they don't smile, they don't engage anybody; they just stand there holding up a couple of magazines. The religion is dead, it just hasn't fallen over yet. Maybe they can reinvent themselves, but I don't think so; it would require a huge break with the past.

Has anyone heard anything about Elders being a separate entity and WTS not helping them in court cases legally?
by Newly Enlightened ini just heard a rumor and trying to verify it.
a current jw just told us that the elder's are now a separate entity and that when brought into court hearings and they try to use the 'clergy confidentiality clause' that the wtbt$ backs off and says the elders are their own separate entity.. anyone heard anything like this?.

I think their lawyers have been trying this game for some time. Each congregation is its own legal entity and the WTBS lawyers do everything they can to keep liability at the local level.

Thanks Lois.
My Dad's comment on religion when I became a dub (in a private conversation) "When I was a kid there were three churches in town." (he grew up in a tiny place in Texas). "Baptist, Methodist and Presbetyrian. When I was about sixteen I tried going to each of them for a few weeks, then I decided they were all full of shit and gave up." The cumulative number of bone marrow transplants is expected to pass a million this year. That's a lot of people.

2. While a few people were aware of it, I actually never admitted it to friends or associates because they would not believe me, but when I was 18, I had sex (on several different days) with a lady who appeared naked in Playboy. Not a centerfold, but a "Girls of..." thing.
So how did the relationship go? I dated a stripper for awhile in college. Not all its cracked up to be, in my opinion. And just in case anybody asks, this happened a couple of years before I met my wife.

"Why Do Many Male Jehovah Witnesses Who Learn TTATT Grow Beards"?
by ÁrbolesdeArabia inthe year once 1983 and the brother who use to study the bible with me drove by and had a full on "charles manson" looking facial hair and beard.
i asked tina, a friend what's up with him?
tina was 19 and a hot red-head woman who was partially in the religion but had problems with fornication.

I was baptized a few months after I graduated from college (1973). I had grown my beard the summer between my junior and senior years in high school, shaving it off was a big deal that I accepted because I didn't want to look like a hippie. Fifteen years later I left the dubs and promptly grew it back because that is who I am. I still have it.
I think the JW dislike of beards runs back to Rutherford wanting to stamp out a budding Pastor Russell worship, I think a lot of JW men had beards in imitation of Russell and the judge didn't like it.

Bigfoot Update: New Paper On Friday
by metatron inhttp://beforeitsnews.com/beyond-science/2013/02/dna-report-proves-bigfoot-is-real-say-11-scientists-of-5-year-study-2440878.html.
much more than blurry photos and casts of footprints - this one has a long list of experts and lots of dna.. weirdness prevails.
suck it, creationistas.

If they have a bigfoot to compare their DNA samples to, they need to trot him out where we can see him. If they don't have a known source to compare the DNA to, this report is complete crap.
