Look at it this way: you have a right to be free from their religion, they have a right to be free from yours.

Human Rights -ignored often, not far reaching enough, more than often.
by Phizzy inhuman rights are clearly laid out in a number of places, and are upheld by legislation in many nations, and yet they are ignored, or when they are invoked, do not go far enough.. this is a sad state of affairs in the 21st century.. human rights are simply trodden in to the ground where we have war, where we have totalitarian regimes, and where we have ignorant clerics who rule.. even in enlightened countries that broadly accept the principles of human rights, they often are not given the priority they should receive.. take freedom of religion for example, this right should enshrine the right to freedom from religion.
the fact that we in the u.k, canada the u.s.a, europe etc etc are unable to really be free of the wt/jw religion if we wish to choose to do so shows this right is unenforceable at present.. the same with the right to family life, the jw/wt cult is allowed to ride roughshod over this basic human right.. it is time their power, and the power of religion in general, was reigned in, and they be made to respect human rights fully..

Why has the watchtower never written a commentary on the Greek scriptures?
by kneehighmiah inthey have writes hundreds of other repetitive books, but no bible commentary.
is it because an actually commentary would destroy their doctrine and prevent them from being able to cherry pick scriptures?.

Googled "what is a Bible Commentary" and got the answer to your question:
- Web definitions
- Exegesis is a critical explanation or interpretation of a text, especially a religious text. Traditionally the term was used primarily for exegesis of the Bible; however, in contemporary usage it has broadened to mean a critical explanation of any text, and the term "biblical exegesis" is used ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bible_commentary
Definition: A biblical commentary is a written systematic series of explanations and interpretations of Scripture. They are written by some of the most knowledgeable theologians in church history. Through a personal narrative, they provide deeper understanding and insight into the Bible, and can be valuable tools to assist both casual reading and serious study. http://christianity.about.com/od/glossary/g/Commentary.htm
As we all know, the WTBS likes to explain the Bible by jumping from verse to verse. A commentary, being a line by line examiniation of a text, does not allow this type of interpretation. Studying the Bible text using a line by line sytematic approach would destroy the Watchtower's interpretations.

Would blood mgmt improvements have been made without firm stand of JW's
by berrygerry inhttp://o.canada.com/news/national/blood-transfusions.
thoughts?.

JeffT
There has been a general shortage of blood for as long as I can remember (my father, brother and sister are all doctors). Doctors have been looking for ways to avoid the need for blood for a very long time. Any advances have come about because the docs wanted to help everybody, most of them probably have never dealt with a JW on the issue outside an ER, if then. I agree with statements above, this is the Watchtower trying to claim something for itself, that simply isn't true.
Julia, that was Mussolini, not Hitler.

New Light - I've figured it out (and it's mine so don't you 'tates steal my royalties or MY followers - they belong to me [evil maniacal laughter] )
by berrygerry inso, we continue to face mounting challenges with 607 vs 587 (20 year differential), and the generation dying out.. therefore, after a personal (420 free - honest) research and revelation, it would appear that 587 is the correct launch date.. with respect to the 7 times, russell had been influenced by john a. brown into using a year of 360 days, when prescience would most surely indicate that at the time of discovery (2014) one would use the number of days of that respective calendar, i.e.. 365 1/4 days, an additional 5.25 days per year.. so, 7 x 5.25 = 36.75, which, using the biblical principle of rounding down, is 36 years.
(a day for a year).. adding the 20 year differential to the 36 years now gives us 56 years, which when added to 1914 ce, brings us to 1970 ce.. when we ask the god google, the significance of 1970, it tells us that earth day began 4/22/1970 (note not 4/20).. and who came to the aid of the woman (rev.
was it not the earth?.

Russell used the modern calendar with a 365 day year, so this part doesn't work. However, if you fancy it up with enough bullshit flowery intellectual verbage, no one well notice. There's always some sheep around to fleece.

When a JW's life comes close to its end...
by suavojr intalking with a long time elder last night, was very revealing.
he has been a jw for over 60 years, a man that was incarcerated in cuba in his early 20s and faced great loss and suffering over his beliefs and for being born in a communist country.
this brave man is now brittle and low-spirited.. while nightfalls on his life, he is made aware the end is near.

I starting studying when I was 22 (1973), sucked in with all the 1975 hype. I was mentally out in 1988 and DA'd in 1989. I'm glad I got out when I did. I knew some nice people back in the day, as far as I know, they're still in, or died in. I wonder how many of them lie awake at night worrying they spent their one time around chasing a pipe dream. It has to be hard, they've now spent 40+ years waiting for some better to come along instead of going out and getting it.
How sad.

DoC my memory of prices goes back to the '50's. I can rememer my mother giving me fifty cents to go to a Saturday matinee. The move was 35, plus a dime for a coke and a nickel for a candy bar. When I got my driver's license in 1967 gas was twenty-five cents a gallon. Cigarettes were .40 a pack in those days.
Now, you kids get off my lawn
