Tsarnaev guilty - should he get death or not?
by Simon ini think he probably will (it is the us after all) but i hope he doesn't.
he caused incredible pain and suffering to men, women and children who had never done anything to him.
many died in unimaginable agony, others are disabled for life.

Unless he waives his appeal rights locking him up is cheaper than killing him (prison is cheap, lawyers cost hundreds of dollars an hour). I'd tattoo "child killer" on his forehead and put him in General Population at a regular maximum security prison. -

Red Moon Over China
by fulltimestudent inperhaps the recent lunar eclipse was heaven's way of demonstrating approval of the tremendous changes in china.. here's some images from the china daily:.
the total lunar eclipse as observed in shenzhen, south china's guangdong province, april 4, 2015. the moon slipped fully into earths shadow saturday, starting a total lunar eclipse for nearly 12 minutes what guangdong astronomical science association says it was the shortest such eclipse of the century.

That's kind of a lot of trouble isn't it, Jeff?
Yeah, I know I'm kind of funny that way. I have this fetish about trying to learn about stuff for myself.

Active posters: What education have you had, what degrees do you possess?
by EndofMysteries infrom so many posts and conversations on here, you'd think over 1/2 the posters here possess doctorates in theology, physics, biology, etc.
i'm curious aside from the books and research people have done here, what degrees they have.
to start, i just got an aa and going straight through full time to an mba.

Magnum, are going to finish the degrees? I got my BA just before I became a dub. That resulted in my turning down a chance to get an MA in education. If I had not gone back later to study Business I would seriously regret that. As it was, I feel like I finished my education. (and took some heat in my congregation for doing so). -

I hate this stuff. I don't think anything positive is accomplished by being rude and disrespectful to people. -

Well, I must confess, Morpheus, that I am a rather ignorant sort of fellow, so indeed I did not know that the eclipse (if that is what you implied) was seen everywhere.
I would suggest studying your subject before you post a bunch of nonsense about it.

The 50 Ways to Be Disfellowshipped
by Wild_Thing ini was wondering ... what are all of the "official" reasons provided by elders for disfellowshipping someone?
i know the most common reasons are adultery and fornication, but what about the others?
a couple of years ago i traveled back to my hometown` and one of my old jw acquaintances told me that her grown son had been disfellowshipped for refusing to stop associating with another disfellowshipped person.

The "Shepard the Flock" book lists the following DF offenses:
manslaughter
attempted suicide
porneia
brazen/loose conduct
child sexual abuse
pursuing a romantic relationship with someone not free to marry
gross uncleanness
misuse of addictive drugs
apostasy
drunkenness
gluttony
stealing
lying
fraud and slander
obscene speech
greed/gambling
fits of anger/violence
As pointed out above a couple of these are so broad as to include just about anything.

Some Questions About Jesus
by Coded Logic inwhy didn't jesus ever write anything?
why are there no letters to jesus?
no painting of jesus from that time?

Due to the ban on idolatry, the Jews didn't not make busts or paintings of anybody. The Romans would not have considered him a suitable subject for artwork.

We have a ten year old granddaughter living with us. Her father (our son) got his act together and is back in college. Her mother is around, but only sees her from time to time. (I don't want to go into the nature of the complications, they're in the past.) My wife and I wouldn't trade her for the world, although we sometimes are forced into facing the fact that we were younger last time we did this.
It worked for us, but I recognized it might not for everybody.

How do you feel about religion as a whole?
by FatherFirst init just seems to me religion in general primarily makes truly bad people worse, not genuinly good people better; and in many cases has even made good people do bad things in the name of their religion.
just curious, a personal poll if you will.
what are you guys' current views on religion as a whole?

I could tell you lots about that once you tell me how it is in anyway connected to your bizarre assertion that, " 500/1000 years ago when much of the world was warring tribes religion is what brought peace"
I'm with Cofty on that one. I quick look at Wikipedia brought up this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Lists_of_wars_by_dateIf religion ended war 500-1000 years ago (or even made a dent at getting started) I'm not seeing it.
