Where did those videos come from? They look more like rental marketing materials to me, that is I think they may be done by the new owners. -

The Greatest Intellectual Scam of All-Time: French Postmodernism
by cofty insbf you annoyed me enough to deserve this.. gad saad's comments on the nonsensical gibberish of jacques derrida, michel foucault, and jacques lacan.
charlatanism of the highest order.
.... the first quote from derrida starts as 2:50.

If I want a dose of gibberish I can't think of a better place to get it than an internet argument about French Postmodernism.

Would you care to explain this discrepancy between your doctrine and the Holy Scripture?
by Pribeagul inciting from https://www.jw.org/en/bible-teachings/questions/what-is-the-holy-spirit/ :"the holy spirit is not a personby referring to god’s spirit as his “hands,” “fingers,” or “breath,” the bible shows that the holy spirit is not a person.
(exodus 15:8, 10) a craftsman’s hands cannot function independent of his mind and body; likewise, god’s holy spirit operates only as he directs it.
(luke 11:13) the bible also compares god’s spirit to water and associates it with such things as faith and knowledge.

What prompted the Jehovah's Witnesses which was founded less than 150 years ago to disregard the entire history of Christianity which respected the Holy Spirit as part of the Trinity?
Charles Taze Russell, who started the religion, thought he was smarter than everybody else. Probably everybody here will tell you he wasn't.

Witnesses and the UN Declaration of Human Rights.
by gonzobear ini'm researching a piece on the witnesses, as an ex born in witness now writer, and would really appreciate any thoughts.. as most of you all know the witnesses rely heavily on article 20 of the above act - everyone has the right to peaceful assembly and association.
but they also contravene several other articles of the act with their policy of disfellowshipping, causing mental distress to people who leave, they split up the family - a protected unit- and don't allow members to vote or to partake in national service, things protected by the act.
here's the link to the act, read it though and see if you can spot things witnesses aren't allowed to do that every human should be allowed to do freely - .

I think the UN Declaration is a goal not a legal document. It isn't actually enforceable, and may not apply to private groups. I know the US constitution does not. Trying to get a court to go after the WTBS on the basis of this document is probably an uphill battle at best.

I think I figured out their strategy with all the creepy videos
by JeffT ini came in during all the hype over 1975. the predictions about that date were the real driver behind all their activity.
since then, they haven't had a good goad to prod the sheep.
they seem to be smart enough not to try another date.. i think they plan to use fear instead.

I think they plan to use fear instead. They won't say WHEN this will happen, but you better be ready because storm troops will come to round you up if you don't give us all your spare time and pocket change. It may send some running when they see the cult for what it is, but many will respond the way the want, i.e. they'll all follow orders.

Jehovah Witness vs Jehovah's Witness
by Simon inbeing brought up as a jehovah's witness means you are so used to the term that you rarely stop to think about it.. one thing i've noticed is that people unfamiliar with the religion will say "jehovah witness" (no 's) instead which i always found a bit grating.. but watching the us election, something struck me.
people are often referred to as "trump supporters", not "trump's supporters" and so on.
thinking about other things, people would say they were "united fan's", not "united's fans" and so on.. it seems weird that a group would refer to themselves as though it was someone else talking about them (in the 3rd person, if i have that right).. what do you think?
-
JeffT
The grammar is irrelevant.
Officially they are "Jehovah's Witnesses" as in "The Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses" or "The Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses." It you are speaking of just one person he is a "Jehovah's Witness" or "One of Jehovah's Witnesses."
Anybody using "Jehovah Witness" in any context is speaking incorrectly, which is rather humorous when they use it themselves. You'd think one should be able to get the name of of his own religion right.

Quick question...
by Vidiot in...why the f**k do i so often see banner ads for "jehovah's witness dating" here?
.

JeffT
I'm guessing the bot that posts the ads can't tell the difference between us and active JW's. -

The vast majority are scams.
Simon, this comment implies there is at least one that isn't a scam. I've never heard or seen such a beast. Do you have an example?
As an accountant, I've looked at lots of them. I've never seen one that isn't designed to fleece the sheep and transfer the proceeds to the people at the top.
