Reminder: I'm an accountant.
I did some research on this a few months ago. This Thread contains my conclusions.
@Startrekangel No the WTBS does not own the O'Rielly trust. That trust is a separate entitiy that belongs to Ms O'Reilly's estate. It is managed for the benefit of the WTBS, but they don't have any say in how its run. These things are regulated by US law, which doesn't care what the Watchtower says in its magazines.
On both of these issue I don't think there is anything here for the XJW community. There are much bigger fish to fry: pedophiles, the theft (in my opinion) of local funds and kingdom hall ownership, misappropriation (probably) of donations, and who knows what went on in the construction of Warwick.
Citizenofearth: congratulations on doing your research. I expect you'll find you can't go back.

Do JWs Regard You As An APOSTATE?
by minimus ini doubt people consider me an apostate but you never know.🤓.
-
JeffT
I know we were considered apostates when we left in 1989. The thirty page letter we sent them probably tipped them off. At this point, I'd be surprised if any of them even remember us. We moved a few years after we DA'd.

Was There ANYTHING Positive That You Experienced Because of Being a JW?
by minimus inwas there anything positive about your jehovah's witness experience?.

I quit smoking when I became a JW. I met my wife through the Witnesses. We've been together for 42 years, only fifteen of that was as JW's.
lt taught me what life would be like in a jail.
Either you've been in really nice jails or really bad kingdom halls.

What is your opinion of the news media?
by minimus into me they have an agenda and they really don't care about professional journalism.
most are untrustworthy and that's a shame.
-
JeffT
That's why I suggest that it's better to listen to both sides, weigh the arguments and discern what is spin and what is based on reality, and that the truth is often somewhere between the two viewpoints.
Or sometimes, somewhere else entirely.

Progressives notice that Fox News has an agenda and lies to support it.
Conservatives notice that the other news outlets have an agenda and lie to support it.
Nobody (that I can see) notices that both of those statements are true.
Same shit, different day.
I'm reading a good suspense novel called "The Last Child" by John Hart. It's part of my research for a JW related thriller/suspense novel I'm in the middle of rewriting.

The fact that different states have different laws about child sexual abuse is ludicrous it should be looked at pronto.
by smiddy init would go a long way in having a law that prosecutes anybody sexually abusing a child or even an adult that encompasses all states with the same laws the same consequences and the same penalties in the country.. this system that has different laws ,different penaltys , different outcomes depending in what state you live in is ludicrous.. one country should have the same judicial system no matter how many states their are in that country.. this state has mandatory laws this state doesnt and the outcome can be so demoralising for those involved ..

In the United States, general police power is the province of state governments. Interstate trafficking in sex and child pornography is already a federal offense. If you think your state's laws are inadequate, you need to lobby your state legislature to change the law.

Democrats, Conspiracy theorists, take a look
by JeffT inhttp://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2007/06/sandy_berger_and_the_clinton_c.htmlsandy berger and the clinton cover-up - why it mattersbyronald a. cass.
on may 17th, sandy berger, president bill clinton's national security adviser, voluntarily gave up his law license and with it the right to practice law.
that is a stunning move for an accomplished lawyer, one of the nation's most influential public officials.

Good grief Hecce this is so old I didn't remember posting it. I thought somebody must have hacked my account to post it. I hope you find something to do more productive than digging up ancient posts about politics.

The only series I watch with any regularity is reruns of the original CSI. I work swing shift so five nights a week I'm working during prime time. From what I've seen, I don't think I'm missing anything. On weekends I watch movies and read books. I turned off the news about a year ago, its done wonders for my mood and outlook on life.

"would you drink a glass of water if it had just a tiny bit of poison in it?"
by stuckinarut2 inno doubt we have all heard that well used "illustration" in public talks etc over the years:.
"if you were handed a glass of water that looked pure, but were told it has just a tiny drop of poison in it, would you drink it?".
the society has used that illustration at length to say we should avoid all influences of every part of the world.. but, as we know, the society has had a track record of errors, false ideas and doctrines.

At least here in the US drinking water DOES have poison -chlorine - in it. You wouldn't want to drink it if it didn't.
