I've maintained for a long time that if the WTBS collapsed a significant number of JW's would just go find somebody else to tell them how to live. They would be low-hanging fruit for a charismatic leader to harvest.

Scientology yes, Mormonism no, depending on what time frame you use. The Mormons predate the Watchtower.

The Watchtower, Christian Science, and a slew of Adventist groups sprang up in the mid-to-late1800's, all of them with their roots in the Millerite movement of the 1840's. Miller (and later his imitators) left behind a lot of broken predictions of the End, and a good number of disappointed followers. None of that stopped people from joining other, similar, religions. That might be a useful example of what happens when a religion collapses.

Happens all the time in the secular YT world. Someone has a nice go, gathers a lot of support and followers, but someone else happens upon the scene with fresh eyes and does a way better job of it and with better enthusiasm.

My wife and I left the JW's in 1988. That was well before the internet made it easy to contact XJW's. We met with a support group for XJW's once a month for a year or two. We also spoke to some church groups and and picketed a few conventions. Eventually all that led me to Randy Waters and his newsletter (his website came along later), That is what "activism" looked like in those days.

I wrote some articles and made a few dollars, like about $50. Around the year 2000 I realized that most of what I knew about the Watchtower was dated. Fresher voices were on the scene and I no longer had much to contribute unless the subject was Watchtower history. I switched to writing fiction, with mixed reactions.

This is Lloyd's real problem: he's past his "sell by" date. All he can do is recycle what others are saying.

Years ago, I had a Chinese-American woman (her parents were born in China, she was a naturalized citizen) working in my accounting department. She was still very connected to her cultural heritage. One morning she came in complaining about the fried rice at restaurant she and some friends had eaten at the previous evening. I said "don't you like fried rice?" She said "I love fried rice, I just don't like paying entree prices for leftovers."

Lloyd, this is my business background speaking. Your business model is dead, it's time to go do something else. All you have is leftovers.

Have you, in your honest opinion or experience, ever seen or had lloyd shut someone/you down, bully, harrass or intimidate them/you? Lloyd seems to be of the opinion, based on his court documents, that he does not do this.

Whenever we went through the C of C mess I got on the bad side of Lloyd and/or the flying monkeys. As a writer, this argument was close to my heart, and by extension, my wallet. Lloyd seemed to be taking the view that he could republish CofC because the copyright holder didn't seem to be doing much with it.

In his view, there was nothing wrong with that. I pointed out that a copyright wasn't just a piece of paper, it was proof of ownership. What he was doing was the moral equivalent of stealing his car out of the driveway because "nobody was using it."

I bring this up because I think it is a good example of his cavalier attitude toward the rights of others. He was happy to siphon money from Debra Dykstra. But then he cries foul when anybody, anywhere, does something that might impinge on his funds.

The above is entirely my opinion.

There's a guy on You Tube named Rick Beato that does some really interesting analysis of songs and what makes a good song, and why some songs are great. He's tackled this issue a couple of times, always much the same conclusion: all pop music sounds the same because it is. There are only so many notes, and the record producers all want the sounds that will sell, they don't care if its good or bad; or done before.

My professional opinion as a retired accountant: Simon's right (at least in the US). Moving money from one bucket to another doesn't wipe out taxes. And in the US too much of that stuff in an effort to dodge taxes irritates the taxman.

Prominent example of that: Donald Trump.

I don't think we've talked about The Streisand Effect in relation to Lloyd. (I did search and got one hit on an unrelated discussion.) I think Lloyd's troubles are a perfect example of this.

He’s only going to show what he wants people to know and it will probably only show the loss in his salary, and will likely try to withhold the entire amount Ipsilon pulled in.

Damn, I wish we were in the US. Here, he wouldn't have any choice in the matter. This may still be true in Croatia. He's claiming he's been damaged financially, fine prove it. If he doesn't provide proof, ask to have the suit dismissd.

I'm an accountant, not a lawyer, but I've been involved in plenty of lawsuits.
