In the United States, general police power is the province of state governments. Interstate trafficking in sex and child pornography is already a federal offense. If you think your state's laws are inadequate, you need to lobby your state legislature to change the law.

The fact that different states have different laws about child sexual abuse is ludicrous it should be looked at pronto.
by smiddy init would go a long way in having a law that prosecutes anybody sexually abusing a child or even an adult that encompasses all states with the same laws the same consequences and the same penalties in the country.. this system that has different laws ,different penaltys , different outcomes depending in what state you live in is ludicrous.. one country should have the same judicial system no matter how many states their are in that country.. this state has mandatory laws this state doesnt and the outcome can be so demoralising for those involved ..

by JeffT inhttp://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2007/06/sandy_berger_and_the_clinton_c.htmlsandy berger and the clinton cover-up - why it mattersbyronald a. cass.
on may 17th, sandy berger, president bill clinton's national security adviser, voluntarily gave up his law license and with it the right to practice law.
that is a stunning move for an accomplished lawyer, one of the nation's most influential public officials.

Good grief Hecce this is so old I didn't remember posting it. I thought somebody must have hacked my account to post it. I hope you find something to do more productive than digging up ancient posts about politics.

The only series I watch with any regularity is reruns of the original CSI. I work swing shift so five nights a week I'm working during prime time. From what I've seen, I don't think I'm missing anything. On weekends I watch movies and read books. I turned off the news about a year ago, its done wonders for my mood and outlook on life.

"would you drink a glass of water if it had just a tiny bit of poison in it?"
by stuckinarut2 inno doubt we have all heard that well used "illustration" in public talks etc over the years:.
"if you were handed a glass of water that looked pure, but were told it has just a tiny drop of poison in it, would you drink it?".
the society has used that illustration at length to say we should avoid all influences of every part of the world.. but, as we know, the society has had a track record of errors, false ideas and doctrines.

At least here in the US drinking water DOES have poison -chlorine - in it. You wouldn't want to drink it if it didn't. -

Why so few XJWs online?
by StephaneLaliberte innot too long ago, i posted a topic where i pointed out that there are about 1 million xjws alive right now.
that number only represented the disfellowshipped ones... didn't account for those who had become publishers and left or anyone else who got hurt by that group by proxy.
so, why are there so few of them online?

My wife is a good example of an ex-XJW. When we first left (in 1988!) she was active in the xjw community. She spoke with me at the church we joined, and similar activities. As time went by she found better things to do, she taught preschool and ran therapy sessions for children of divorced parents. Now she's involved with various human rights groups. I think she's doing the absolute best thing to stick it to the WTBS: she's enjoying a real life.

If being a school bus driver requires getting fingerprinted, and she doesn't want to be fingerprinted, she needs to look for some other kind of work.

There is a legal concept "De Minimis"
from free Dictionary: An abbreviated form of the Latin Maxim de minimis non curat lex, "the law cares not for small things." A legal doctrine by which a court refuses to consider trifling matters.
The law doesn't care if JW's believe they're going to heaven, paradise on earth, or Disneyland. It's irrelevant to the case. So is discussion of how the machine came to be contaminated. Legally and medically, the root cause of this incident is the refusal of JW's to accept medically necessary blood transfusions. Absent that issue, this medically procedure would have, in all probability, ended better than it did. That is the issue before the court.

What dubstepped says. Medical personnel need to keep up with advances in medicine, not changes in Watchtower theology.

Wonder what was the details to why the machine was deemed contaminated??
I just read most of the full document. The suction tube hit the floor, at which point it probably sucked in contaminants or bacteria which would make the whole machine unusable. The doctors believed that they had to keep the blood moving through the machine at all times to meet the JW's requirements. (I don't know if this is still true, these machines were just coming into use about the time I left. It was true then.) So they shut the machine down. Had this occurred during surgery on a non-JW, they would have given a unit or two of blood, and there wouldn't have been a problem.
So the no blood policy kills another JW.
