Finklestein, are you saying we're in a time of overlapping investigations?
/runs for cover/
i hope that the trump administration looks into obama , clinton and all the other players for trying to usurp the legitimacy of the trump presidency..

Athanasius: I was a convert that was politically very active before I joined the cult. I've been out quite a while now. I've observed that understanding politics and government is a major challange for many xjw's. Therefore reasonable political discussion is appropriate here. But we all need to be careful about how we talk to those that disagree with us.
elizabeth warren, alexandria ocasio cortez, and other democrats are openly expressing interest (and in come cases, campaign promises) that the electoral college has to go.
i disagree for a few reasons.
first, the 25 states (out of 50, so 50%) with the smallest populations only get 21% of the electoral college votes (in our current system, today).
Just out of curiosity, how many on this thread have read the US Constitution and The Federalist Papers?

I hope Trump wins the popular vote and loses the electoral college. It will be a generation before we have to engage in this stupid argument again.
PS, Senators weren't meant to represent people. They represent the interests of the state, or they're supposes to.
they say it will be out any day soon.
do you think the report will do major damage to trump?.
Depends on what it says. If there is clear evidence of criminal acitivity, yes. By this I mean so obvious even the Republicans will have to acknowledge it. That is what brought Richard Nixon down, and gave Bill Clinton a pass. Nixon's problems became so big even his own party had to repudiate him. Clinton was able to make the charges look fuzzy enough to give Democrats supporting him cover to let him stay in office. (Side note, the Clinton affair can be taken as proof that lying under oath is not an impeachable offense, neither is hitting on an intern in the oval office,)
If Mueller can't find anything really big, it won't matter because the Democrats will just go look for something else to charge him with.
climate change ... who doesn't believe it?
crazy fools and science deniers ... right?.
it seems like it's become the new religion, the new orthodoxy, that must be accepted and believed as gospel and preached to all.. is it ok to be skeptical?.
What did you do with the real Simon?
Seriously, I've been skeptical all along because there has been evidence that numbers are being fudged to make the results come out to the "correct" solution. I'm on my way to work, I'll have to look later but I just read about a weather service in Australia that is revising historical numbers to make it look like there has been warming. That may be reasonable, but they need to explain there numbers. That's how science works.
*i saw this posted on reddit and thought that it might interest some here.... https://btimesherald.com/classifieds/.
notice to the congregation and members of the burns kingdom hall of jehovah’s witnesses, as of 5-17-2011. notice is hereby given that the trustee of the zelma christine brooks revocable living trust is attempting to identify all qualifying beneficiaries fitting the following description:.
“dedicated, baptized active heads of households, male or female, members of the burns, oregon congregation jehovah’s witnesses,” on the exact date of 5-17-2011.. qualifying individuals may be entitled to monetary distributions from the above named trust.
I just did a little snooping around. She died in September, according to the public page of My Life she had a net worth of $50,000 to $100,000. Her listed income was $10,000/year. My guess is that's Social Security. A revocable trust means she retained control of the funds until she died, now the money is being disbursed according to the terms of the trust. If the language about moving, DFing etc not effecting entitlement to the funds is in the trust document, she made it clear she wants the money to go to the individuals, NOT the WTBS.
I'm sure the Society will put pressure on recipients to pass along the money. I hope somebody has the backbone to tell them to go pound sand, there isn't a thing they can do about it legally.
that is absolutely the number one rule that i resent.. i feel sorry for some of those poor dependent minded jws who can't find anyone to marry.
all because they were only allowed to be with witnesses.
what a bunch of boloney!
Can't date regular people? Hell, they can't even date each other. My wife and I were both converts (we met about the time we got baptized). Having been "out in the world" we knew what dating looked like. This led to counsel about spending too much time together alone. I don't know how you're supposed to learn anything about somebody you can't even have a private conversation with.
We've been married a bit more than 44 years, seems to have worked out OK.
i'm not sure why this memory popped up, and i was wondering if any others, when they were still active jw had dealings with a pyramid scheme involving other witnesses in the organization?
at the time it was 1993, and my husband and i were still newlyweds.
once in a while, we would attend a neighboring congregation because that was where he grew up, and some of his family was still attending there at the time.
I know the Securities and Exchange Commission is investigating at least a few of these groups, unfortunately the SEC can only do something if the company tries to go public. What the SEC was looking at is lack of disclosure of an important number: inside sales. You'll hear that "XYZ" is a $5,000,000,000 a year business. What they don't tell you is that $4,999,900,000 of those sales is to employees (or agents or whatever they call them). Most of what they move are the marketing kits, or samples or some such. The conventions of various sizes are cash cows, where they make the real money.

Yes, we were approached about Amway, some deal with putting stripe decals on cars, my wife was talked into trying to sell Avon for awhile. After we left and started attending a mainstream church we were hit up to get into Amway a couple of times, and a telecom deal. My wife's sister (LDS) is always working some scheme or another.
I noticed a funny thing that unites all of these deals: everybody I ever talked to about one was ABOUT to be rich. None of them ever were, but it was going to happen soon. Just like JW's and Armageddon, the big money is always right around the corner.
Once I got into accounting and finance and knew how to read a financial statement I began to be amazed the people running these things aren't in jail. There seems to be some sort of loophole in the laws that lets people get away with this.
