I'm sorry to hear that. I've been close to medical care all my life (father, brother, sister all docs). Rural hospitals are going to be really hard pressed to get through this. Where in NY are you? I grew up in Cooperstown, its only by fluke deal that we had a real hospital there.

Hospital is laying off and furloughing
by Anony Mous ini've been having a tough time today, i just got notice that our hospital is laying off a large group of people and furloughing others.
nurses, doctors, we just don't have enough business during this covid crisis, we've only ran at 60% capacity, while cuomo is telling us about shortages, they weren't ever realized, and nys simply won't open up fast enough for us to recover.
nys has given notice that hospitals are likely going to be out for 4-5 more months before all restrictions will be lifted, only necessary surgeries are allowed right now, with a few hundred of millions per month revenue shortfall, this is going to destroy and contract our business and our remote (rural) hospitals are the hardest hit, probably going to close permanently.

How can I promote a book that is exJW related?
by VerdadTJ2 ini have a friend in guatemala who was born and raised in el salvador.. he wrote a book in spanish which i am translating to english.. normally, he would be making enough money to provide for his family by working at a textile factory as their graphics designer.
but, given the covid19 crisis, he was laid off.. he was hoping to make a little side money by writing a book before this whole covid19 thing hit, and he sold only a few copies of the spanish version, because the market is small and it's really small in the spanish-speaking exjw community.the book is really good, it's very entertaining, and it gives a fresh perspective of what it was to be a latino jw and coming of age in the early 1990's.so... any tips on how to promote it?
i would like to sell it at $10usd and sell at least 100 copies.

I just self published a novel using Amazon's Kindle Direct program. It's a print on demand service that will put out books in both Kindle and Print formats. You'll need a Word file to convert to PDG which you then upload for publication. They have tips on marketing. You will need to do the translation yourself.

Cofty it should be available on your side of the pond, although it may take a while to get listed there.

Scully, nice to see you again, its been awhile. Either I missed some punctuation or I have to see if Amazon ships whole states as part of my prime membership.

It grew out of a short story I wrote a number of years ago. That story was just posted on jeffthomasbooks.wordpress.com. I have two sequels that are polical pot-boilers about the aftermath. Those will be finished after I complete rewrites and editing. Feed back on any of this is welcome.
There is a JW related book (or two) in the works.

Who is considered more bizarre?
by incognito2014 injws or mormons.
from a public point of view not from people within the religion as that would be obvious.. examples of extreme beliefs or behaviour would be useful..

I've long thought that Mormons have some weird beliefs, but they are much better members of the community than JW's. They go to school, work hard and generate more tax revenue. I think the JW's are a net negative on that score, in that they are lower income, so lower taxes; and they have no problem with using all the government money they can get their hands on. Mormons vote and hold office, I know some won't like that, but it connects them to the community.

People Are Drinking a Lot More When "Locked Up" in Their Homes
by RubaDub init was amusing the other evening on the local news to see the increase of drinking due likely to people having to basically stay at home.. the news crew went out on recycle day in a couple of areas during the week.
they showed the general neighborhoods (but not the specific houses).
the reporter walked down the street and looked into the recycle bins.

When Mt. St. Helens blew in 1980 we were living in Pullman, Washington. It's a small college town about 250 miles downwind from the mountain. At the time the population was about 25,000, 16 thousand of whom were college undergraduates. Within twenty-four hours of the eruuption the entire town was out of beer.
I suspect something similar is happening with the stay at home orders.

Find the Beatles Songs in the Picture
by Simon insome light entertainment ... there are apparently 39 beatles songs hidden in the picture, but depending on how to interpret some of them you may come up with more.. please post one each, to give everyone a go, and describe where the song is in the picture (so it's not just coming up with a list of beatles songs).
also, check for existing answers - i'll post summaries to show the ones already identified.. .

USAF Thunderbirds
by LV101 inso awesome - the usaf thunderbirds just did a fly over the las vegas valley starting at nellis air force base all the way to boulder dam, boulder city, nv, in tribute and honoring the covid 19 healthcare workers/responders.
so amazing - we were in the backyard and could hear the engines long before any sight of them.
they flew over summerlin, spring valley - over couple hospitals and back over my house - circling on to the las vegas strip, henderson then boulder dam - back to nellis.

Cool. I've never seen the Thunderbirds, but the Blue Angels are an annual show here in Seatle. Always impressive.
