here's my thoughts on why jesus said: .

"..it was said, 'you must not commit adultery.

' but i say to you that everyone who keeps on looking at a woman so as to have a passion for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Thanks for the honest, thoughtful responses.

I also feel like the majority here: Common Sense shapes my conscience as well. Active Jehovah's Witnesses would like to think that those of us who chose to leave have no sense of right and wrong and that without their constant indoctrination we become totally immoral and just overall "bad" people...

Overall, I think that people who lack consideration for the family unit and treat it as something to be discarded will act that way because they just want to. When all is said and done, if a person wants to be unfaithful to their spouse (and deal with the consequences that come with that) they will do so irrespective of religious affiliation.

Here's my thoughts on why Jesus said:

"..it was said, 'You must not commit adultery.' But I say to you that everyone who keeps on looking at a woman so as to have a passion for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart." --Mt. 5:27.28

Isn't it true that most married men (or women for that matter) have at least briefly thought of having an affair? Why is the thought here equated to the act? Is it because our actions follow what our deep-seated desires are? Was Jesus merely making a hyperbole to illustrate how easily our desires-- when allowed to grow---can become reality kind of like a self-fulfilling prophesy?

Well, now that we are out of the JW religion, How does your individual conscience kick into action and actually keep you from engaging in something that will later result in grief, sadness and regret?

If "the borg" doesn't shape your conscience anymore, what does?

of all the ex-jehovah's witnesses who are posters on this forum, i think we could be divided into two major groups: those who over the years "drifted away" and were never df and those who were df.

out of those who were subjected to a judicial meeting and subsequently were disfellowshipped, how many feel that the decision was undeserved by the jwitnesses own criteria for disfellowshipping and was completely mishandled?

did you consider suing the wt society for defamation of character?

there was an interesting case on tv the other day about a man whose wife had a child and he believed that this was his child until the wife told him she had relations with another man around the time that the child was conceived.

he was devastated to learn that this child whom he considered his own, might in fact, not be his.. a dna test was done and confirmed this man's worst fear: he was not the father.

if you were in a similar situation, what would you do?

I'm not a male, of course, but I would probably have zero tolerance if a person did this to me. I'd want out ASAP.

If you were in a similar situation, what would you do? Would you leave your cheating spouse and start your life over? Would love for your wife (inspite of her unfaithfulness) and love for that child cause you to remain in the marriage?

Iron, that's really funny...

I personally know some SINGLE guys who have never been married and they look identical to your last photo of the guy in front of the tv, holding a beer. So, you know, life is what you make it.

As far as the topic, I really would like to just get some feedback from anyone who is/was in a marriage but that their view of fidelity is different from their spouses and how this has worked out --or not--- for you.

They have a baby together AND yet he can't forgo an opportunity to have extramarital sex.
