NGOs hit pay dirt on dollar trail
DEVI YESODHARAN
TIMES NEWS NETWORK[ TUESDAY, JANUARY 20, 2004 07:12:37 AM]
NRI Special Offer! MUMBAI: Foreign donors seem to be in a generous mood when it comes to funding non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in India. Foreigners loosened their purse strings to the extent of Rs 4,871.9 crore in ’01-02, up 7.4% from Rs 4,535.5 crore in ’00-01. There has also been a change in the list of the top receivers of foreign funds in the country.
The little-known Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushotam Sanstha (BAPS), a Gujarat-based organisation, tops the receivers list with foreign donations of Rs 107.5 crore. BAPS has seen a 280% jump in foreign funding over two years, rising from 26th place in ’00 with receipts of Rs 28.3 crore to the top of the list of receivers in ’01-02. Gospel for Asia with Rs 98.9 crore is the second highest recipient, while the World Vision of India with Rs 88.4 crore is in third place, according to data collated from the home ministry’s latest annual report.
BAPS is also the first time a voluntary organisation to have received over Rs 100 crore in foreign funds, the previous high being Rs 88.2 crore by the Sathya Sai Trust in ’00-01. For ’00-01, the top three beneficiaries were the Sri Sathya Sai Trust, World Vision India and the Watchtower and Bible Tract Society. It is also interesting to note that two of the top three receivers (BAPS and Gospel for Asia) of funds in ’01-02 are religious organisations.
In ’00-01, Rs 284 crore was received for religious activities by Indian organisations. This has risen by 37.6% to Rs 391 crore in ’01-02. On an average, Indian religious organisations have received around 10% of total FCRA (Foreign Contributions Regulations Act) regulated foreign fund inflows since 1991.
Thirteen of the top 25 receivers of foreign funds in India are religious organisations, both Hindu and Christian. Several of these organisations are involved in social causes; the building of schools, housing for the poor, literacy and so on, besides religious activities.
Delhi continues to top the list of receiving states with Rs 794.4 crore going to 839 organisations. -

...Forget about having a meeting with the c.o. just stop doing any elder chores today. show them you mean it. i get the feeling from your last few posts you have out grown the k.h. and don't even want to go any longer. a good first step would be try to miss the next meeting or 2 and take your family to a disney movie or to dinner with ice cream sundae's
Exactly.
They want the CO to help them gang up on you and "force" a confession they think you may be "hiding" from them. Follow your gut instinct and don't give them all the control.
"Provide for those who are members of your own household" I think means emotionally as well as physically.
It's obvious this cult is dangerous if they're telling you to sacrifice your health and your family's well being for "them."

I don't serve Jehovah, I serve the elders and the brothers and sisters at the Hall. They are the ones whose approval I covet.
This is an easy "set up trap" to fall into because ----------------(finish the sentence).......You have no other social circle!
They alienate you from all your "worldly" friends, neighbors, relatives.
If you leave them now, after so many years you'll have to start over. Well, that can be fixed! Those of us on this board who have left have been in your shoes. We know the isolation. You can to go to the Ex-JW meet up site and see if there are other ex-JW families with children in your local area. You'll find people who will accept you for who you are not for a "Non-existant persona" you put on and take off like a mask.
Reach out also to your work associates--they have known you for a while. Also your relatives who are non-JW.
I got tired of living a double life and my family is happier for it. Keep reaching out to those I mentioned (and this forum) for support. I promise: you won't need to put in "pioneer hours" or sit and listen to the same old man-made rules (that they can judge you on) to impress anybody. That will be a huge load lifted from your shoulders.

Is repititive imprinting of ideas a primary cult tactic?
by hubert inin a post by syn that lady lee has brought up again, there is this statement by syn.
i could underline my watchtower in 10 minutes, tops, and be sure that all the answers were right.
many esteemed researchers have shown that repetitive imprinting of ideas is a primary cult tactic, and i tend to agree with them.

For nearly 80 years their understanding of what Jesus meant by "generation" remained unchanged, although the definition they now use was known over 80 years prior. Then, in 1995, 81 years after 1914 (after the time limit for a lifespan placed by Psalms had elapsed) the "understanding" miraculously changed.
It bears up one vital question: If they can be wrong (if they are fallible) how can they be trusted to tell God's truth? They were wrong about 1914 once, how can I be certain they aren't wrong again?
See, with Noah it was easier. He wasn't wrong, right? According to Genesis, God spoke to him directly. God told him what to do and he did it, "just so." Moses did the same thing. But these Governing Body members, they aren't getting messages from God so they aren't doing just so. How can I put my trust in the sons of earthling man? They can't save me.
These are some of the points let me to just stop putting trust in the Governing Body, They don't seem to be spirit- anointed any more than other religious groups. And they make too many specific rules that go beyond what is written.

*IF the Brooklyn Governing Body etc. really are God’s true and only channel, why did they choose to become supporters of the UN agenda by becoming a NGO?-----to get a library card is not good enough reason.

because men made the rules in the sect
The governing body has a habit of "going beyond what is written." There's so many examples...This can only mean they have a bad effect on people if people stay in the cult long enough.

To agree with 99%
by YoursChelbie in.
how many times have we heard the argument that the witnesses must be the true and only channel god is using because 99% of what they teach is accurate?
even if that were the case, who would drink a glass of water with 1% poison content?

Wanting honesty and acceptance is something every human desires. If you are just starting to study with a Sister maybe you are not aware that serving God and being part of the Watchtower Society are not the same but they will try to convince you that they are. If you ever question that one point you will be told to get your thinking straight and you won't have any "friends" in the Kingdom Hall.
In fact, if you doubt anything they tell you will be called an apostate and disfellowshipped (if you ever reach the point of getting Baptized into their organization.) This means that everyone who is nice to you now will shun you. These things are not revealed to people early on. Once you are on the "second book" they may tell you more about how they control people. Be open to more than one point of view. Read as much as you can here and question everything. The REAL Truth should stand up to any scrutiny, wouldn't you say?
And remember you don't have to belong to a "group" to have a good standing with God. Feel free to post here as often as you'd like. You'll have many views from people who have been Jehovah's Witnesses for many years.

Ahhhhh, college. This is the new (re-occuring) big one. You're no good if you go to college. You're now looked down upon by the others. You're told you probably won't get that good of a job just because you went to university, anyway. Yet in the 80's it wasn't viewed the same. This is not "new light". This is "blinking light">
Minimus, you make even a non-funny topic hilarious!! And just when I ....finally..... catch my breath Misspeaches comes up with this one;
Um whats a privelege? Hmmm on further consideration I do seem to recall that this was something reserved for the male folk in the congregation. Once they had passed the neoptism tests.
