Excuse me, but you married a believing, active JW knowing that you do not believe and that you don't want to be active, and knowing what it means to a JW that their mate is "inactive"? Are you on crack? I think for someone who knows better to do that is setting everyone involved up for some real hearbreak.

The Story of SD-7 - Chapter 2
by sd-7 ingiven that i'm very sensitive emotionally, i tend to avoid mentioning my personal life here if possible, preferring to stick to evaluation of watchtower publications and doctrine, particularly the newest material i can get my hands on.
but i felt it was time to talk again.

Any Comment On The Amanda Knox Verdict?
by acolytes ini think the verdict was not based on anti-americasim as the boyfriend was italian and was also convicted.. i think the irresponsible journalisam and charactor assasination on a persons character to sell newspapers and gain t.v ratings reflect badly on english journalisam.
i think this must have effected the thinking of a jury allowed to be exposed to such media frency.. sadly english jounalisam has been responsible for helping convict innocent people in the past.
the wimbeldon common murder and false conviction of colin stagg was a classic example.. i also remember how in america (many years ago)a au-pair from england was convicted of shaking a baby to death.

I don't want to make this sound like it was the poor girl's fault, but any American who gets anywhere near drugs when in a foreign country is totally insane. The horror stories of Americans who have been falsely accused of something because drugs "were involved" is a pretty lengthy list.

If we had a real state department intstead of the kiss azz politically correct cowards we have, our state department would demand that this poor girl be released to US authorities or we would send the navy, air force, marines, and army to go and get her.

Tangerine Dream play the Devil's Music
by HappyGuy ini guess one of the things that i hold most against the senile octagenarians who run the wtbts and tell us things like "rock music is from satan" is how much music i either missed out on or felt guilty about listening to.
i love music.
everyone who knows me can tell when i am not listening to enough music.

Jim,
I can remember where I was and what I was doing the first time I heard Mahavishnu Orchestra's Between Nothingness and Eternity. OMG. What amazing music.

Volunteer work and preaching - It's a lie
by Iwonder17 init hit me the other day, when a jw goes to a door and says, we are doing a volunteer work today.... .
no they arent.
they have to go in service every month as a requirement to stay in the club, if not, they become inactive or irregular.
-
HappyGuy
I think with almost anything one volunteers for there are some sort of stipulations.
I don't know, I volunteered to teach inner city kids to read and write after they graduated high school not knowing how to read and write. The stipulations were "show up". I've done lots of volunteer work where you basically just had to show up.
I agree with the original post. Field service is not volunteer work the WTBTS guilts you into doing it.

6000 years of man's existence.
Seriously? They are still teaching this nonsense. I will give just ONE fact that disproves this.
There are cities off the coast of Japan (now covered with hundreds of feet of ocean DUH) which are FAR older than 6,000 years. How do we know this? BECAUSE we know when the shoreline was far enough away that these would have been CITIES and not underwater ruins. These cities are AT LEAST 20,000 years old. I say AT LEAST because 20,000 years is to the time when the shoreline was on the other side of the cities, we don't know how old the cities were before THAT.

finallysomepride,
Do you like Humble Pie? I didn't like them all that well but their Live album is AMAZING. THeir version of "Walk on guilded splinters" the Dr. John voodoo ritual is .... well, you just have to listen to it. Then there is their version of "I don't need no doctor".
I wonder how many JW teenagers and young adults succumbed to the pressure and threw out their "questionable" music?

What is your favorite poem? Here is mine
by HappyGuy inthou hast made me endless,.
such is thy pleasure.. this frail vessel thou emptiest again and again,.
and fillest it ever with fresh life.. this little flute of a reed thou hast carried over hills and dales,.

Thou hast made me endless,
such is thy pleasure.
This frail vessel thou emptiest again and again,
and fillest it ever with fresh life.
This little flute of a reed thou hast carried over hills and dales,
and hast breathed through it melodies eternally new.
At the immortal touch of thy hands my little heart loses its limits in joy
and gives birth to utterance ineffable.
Thy infinite gifts come to me only on these very small hands of mine.
Ages pass, and still thou pourest, and still there is room to fill. -

Visiting brother gets fed today...
by garyneal ini suffered through 3 hours of jw-dom by going to the meeting with my wife because my daughter wanted to go and my niece was being carried too.
a part of me feels a bit obligated to go when my daughter goes out of protection for her and a part of me feels like i should go since my wife had two small girls going with her and my daughter alone is a handful.. a visiting brother in the neighboring city of suffolk, va gave a talk today and some of the people wanted to take him out to dinner.
my wife was invited to go along and she was real excited about that.

During dinner my wife asked the lady sitting beside her, "So, how long have you been in the, um, truth." I laughed to myself over this statement. I don't get why they ask each other this, perhaps it is innocuous or perhaps they are testing each others 'spirituality'
It is innocuous. Just an ice breaker.
I know this may sound a bit wierd but it is a sort of way of showing love. You see, to them a person is dead if they are not a JW, so when a person comes into the "truth" the person is being given life. That is why the question has such import and why other Christians don't ask each other a similar question. Other Christians don't view people as dead before they accept Jesus as their savior.
