Good point DS. I'd love to hear of the reactions of visitors who were canvassed and they show up to hear how recreation, family, financial security, courting, etc, are all bad and must be rejected.

How many elders does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

It should be more like how many JW's. The answer is 8. The elder must ask the circuit overseer, who must contact the district overseer who must contact the branch overseer, who must contact the bethel headquarters, who must ask the GB, who must pass back down to the elder, who will then designate it to a MS, who will then designate it to a publisher reaching out to be a MS.

wtwizard - they also have articles against playing pacman-waste of time, money, (both which should go to donations and field service), chess - wargame, any sports - competitive, etc. I don't think there is a single form of recreation they haven't bashed at one point or another to make people feel guilty if they do anything other than field service.

If I had to go because of family, here is the strategy I would take......
Get VERY sick (fake) and pretend you must sleep at the hotel. When they leave, take a shuttle or rental car (free pickup service) and tour the city/surrounding area for those 3 days and enjoy yourself.
If you happen to be in Detroit, well sorry.

^good analogy to the communism.
So then they'll probably say....
Recreation - If you happen to have 1 hour after a weeks worth of hard work and service and you are thinking of spending that time on recreation, are you truly doing all that you can do for field service? Should you not spend that time perhaps doing some street witnessing or informal witnessing in the park?
Eating and Drinking - Jesus said that man must live not on bread alone but on every utterance from the Lord. There have been reports of those who take lunch breaks and snacks during field service. Not only is this a lack of faith and should be avoided, but time spent during the week for lunch and dinner can be better spent in progressing the lords work!
Concerns about Health - The bible clearly says do not be anxious. Those who are concerned about their health and trying to be proactive are clearly showing a lack of faith and being anxious. Time spent maintaining your health can be better spent in field service. When your health fails, you can look forward to the new system!
Courtship and Weddings - Marriage is a lifelong committment and think of the countless hours spent in courtship to decide if you will be bound to another for the rest of your life. The time left is reduced! Those who can't remain single have not overcome their fleshly desires. If one happens to go against this advice and seek marriage, the wedding should have the energy of a funeral. Elders should be consulted to make sure the wedding reception music is kingdomhall friendly. Infact many have remarked of the joy they have had in singing the kingdom melodies during the wedding reception instead of dancing to music. A honeymoon is a pagan practice, but in asking for forgiveness for the weak couple who chose not to remain single, they can demonstrate a postive step forward in pioneering instead of taking a honeymoon.
Family Ties - Jesus said that his spiritual brothers were his family, not his blood relatives. Jesus said those who neglect his brothers will not inherit the kingdom. The governing body are the faithful and discreet slave and when they ask you to listen, obey, and be blessed, that means you must put their whims above your fleshly family because they are your true brothers. When Jesus returns, do you not want to see his joyful expression when he sees that you put field service and listening to the governing body first, even when that meant neglecting your family? What a joyful time that will be!
Material Pursuits. - Seek the kingdom first and all other things will be added. Education and material security are not promised in this world. GIve all your money and excesses to the governing body to advance the kingdom work. The scriptures show that early christians had to GIVE their money to the organization, the organization itself was not part of the promise of having everything provided. That was a test of faith for the christians. The organization itself depends on the money from it's members. SO keep giving your money, keep rejecting the temptation of financial security and higher education, and all other things will be added! There will be attendents with ATM and Credit Card scanners by the donation boxes for those who chose to show their faith in this provision by the lord.

Well it's very understandable prologos. The GB have noticed the money isn't flowing in as much anymore as the cost of living has gone up. They deserve to continue flying first class, and having a first class life with everything taken care of for them. Heaven forbid things got even worse that they had to ever do actual work and take care of themselves. It makes perfect sense that they should make sure the millions of followers are giving everything possible and obeying them instead.

Sure will be DD. Did they miss any aspect of anybody's lives that is generally important and vital to a happy and productive live? Is there anything missing besides worshipping and distributing GB's magazines? Family life - bad, check. Health and Fitness Activities - bad, check. Higher Education and financial security - bad, check. Recreation and enjoyment of any sort - bad, check. Eating food that is enjoyable and tastes good - bad, check.
I can't think of anything else. They should design a robot who doesn't have any human needs, including even eating or drinking, and will do 24/7 service and parrot 24/7 WT quotes as an example for what one must do to earn life forever.

To counteract that, maybe start to bring up those things.
People are poor and the world is so bad, no jobs, can barely pay the bills, is that a result of the worlds condition or the fact they say not to prepare for retirement, not to get higher education, to work as little as possible and do as much service as possible, etc???
Like you just brought out, are health issues due to the whole world or due to them teaching complete neglect, don't use doctors, being into fitness and excercising is bad, etc?
Is the love cooling off among family and friends and the congregation due to everybody just becoming bad or due to them teaching it's bad for family traditions/holidays, bad to get together, bad to have recreation, service comes before family, should spend time in service instead of enjoying time with family and friends.
Bring up how what they teach bring about these bad conditions and to keep worshipping the GB and following them for their next life to have them all gone.

I think lawyers are being used to write all the literature
by EndofMysteries inif you think about how they word and spin doctor everything, such as on jw org, the faq about shunning members who leave the religion....if a jw says, "look, it says you don't shun ex members and family ties remain no matter what!
", they will say, "na ah ah!!
if you look closely it talks about inactive ones who are not shunned, and as for family, the example is of a husband in the same household as his wife and children.

If you think about how they word and spin doctor everything, such as on Jw org, the FAQ about shunning members who leave the religion....If a JW says, "look, it says you don't shun ex members and family ties remain no matter what!", they will say, "na ah ah!! if you look CLOSELY it talks about inactive ones who are not shunned, and as for family, the example is of a husband in the same household as his wife and children. But we all know those who leave ARE shunned and if they don't reside in the same household, they are also shunned. Infact the recent WT says even emailing is not allowed".
Now......if a 'non jw' asks about shunning, saying, "I heard you shun ex members and if family members leave, they are also shunned", they will say that's a lie, look at JW.org. See how it says a person who doesn't go to meetings and service anymore is not shunned? And see how it says if a family member leaves, the spirital ties are severed but blood ties remain and normal family affections can continue?"
The material when you see how they can spin them both ways, looks to me like a lawyer who writes the 'small print' of a contract. A person is misled on a sale, service, contract, agreement, etc, when they say "you should have read the fine print", or "well it doesn't actually claim that, it looks that way but if you read it closely, it really never said that", etc.
What do you all think?
