Well, we can call it NOT a Thanksgiving dinner because we had it today, Saturday,
and every good jW Yankee knows Thanksgiving Day is on Thursday so if you had
the same meal but on a different day then you can theocratically call it a get-together.
Anyway, we just had this get-together and had long discussions with two couples
who are heavily involved in an RBC in New England. Among their many accounts
of volunteers giving their time and helping people rebuild, they divulged that the
Society expects disaster victims who are helped by an RBC to turn over all the
money they receive from insurance companies because the RBC helped them.
So volunteers give of their time and effort, paying their own way, and helping
rebuild damaged properties, then the Society gets the money from insurance.
hi i have not been here for a while i did not have a working pc how has everyone been ?
just wondering if there a re any ex jws from maryland.
i'd like extend a greeting to all members of jwn.
i've been a lurking by-stander of this forum for approximately 6 months.
i think this forum's best moments can be attributed to the involvement of actual jw's in doctrinaire discussions and to heated (though not always dialectic) debates.
i almost missed this in my last post, but i just realized how important and must list it.
paragraph 14 from jan 15, 2010 wt last article entitled "jehovah's way of ruling vindicated".
"a few anointed members of "the israel of god" still remain, and as jesus' brothers, they continue to act as "ambassadors substituting for christ (2 cor 5:20) they have been appointed as a faithful and discreet slave class to care for and provide spiritual food for annointed ones and a growing crowd of christians, who now include millions having the hope of living on earth forever.
bro do brown payne told the audience of today's sa day at natick mass.
that "many brothers compromised their neutrality by voting in 2008".
he followed that by asking "and what has this president done for you?
Bro DO Brown Payne told the audience of today's SA day at Natick Mass. that "many brothers compromised their neutrality by voting in 2008"
He followed that by asking "And what has this President done for you?" He smirked and said "Nuttin' Honey!"
Which was received with loud chuckles by the audience. He went on to say "And what's the next guy gonna do for you?"
He answered his question: "Same thing. Nuttin Honey!"
I wonder if by saying "the next guy" he thinks Romney is going to win the presidency.
=========
(BTW Bro Brown Payne is black, a military veteran, with time in Vietnam from what he shares about "war crimes", he said Jehovah has fogiven us if we did awful things in wartime and when coming into the "Truth" we confessed to Jehovah and to the elders about "our wrongdoing in the war". One wonders what kind of wrongdoings he did while in Vietnam?)
at today's special assembly in natick ma, bro brown payne annouced to the audience that serena williams was disciplined by her local elders for her swearing escapade on tv.. saying: "can jehovah's witnesses swear like that on tv?
" then he told the audience that she was "disciplined" by the elders of the congregation she's a publisher in.. doesn't this smack of revealing the private business of another person?
the most the local elders could have said was "a matter concerning serena williams has been handled by the elder body".
What would make Serena Williams sue the WT?
Probably not the fact that elders supposedly disciplined her.
The way DO Brown Payne said it was almost like Serena took the discipline and as a JW she wont be doing that again.
His remarks that this brought reproach on Jehovah's name made just about everyone taking notes start writing down what he was saying.
I'm sure there's a lot of notes and even the recording done by the sound department that can be used in a lawsuit.
But would Serena Williams sue the WT? Probably not.
She's a mouthy but obedient J-Doobie or so it was presented.
