this photo from 1958 doesn't quite fit the description above
but it does show him wearing some rings.
do any of you recall seeing a photograph in one of the society's publications of fred franz where he is giving a public talk at an assembly and has his left arm stretched out and on his left hand is a masonic ring.
it may have been in one of the special international assembly brochures.. with this great group of sleuths i thought some may have come across it..
this photo from 1958 doesn't quite fit the description above
but it does show him wearing some rings.
for prayers from the platform.. i've "said my own" for a few years now if i find i cant agree with what the brother is praying about.
i'm constantly amazed by the same old repetitive ramblings and just nonsense that some brothers feel is an acceptable way to pray for a congregation.. once i've finished saying my own i'll listen again to what they are going on about, and round and round they go.
the worse ones are those who can hardly speak english and i cant understand a word thats said apart from the "...feffull slive... bless bruders sis not here..." blah blah.. and everyone has gone through the public talk prayer.
I stopped saying Amen to prayers at the KH when just about every brother who came back from the Patterson's Schools, or sat through the latest CO talks seemed to always remember to mention the Governing Body in the prayers. It's almost spooky how mentally washed some expressions sound after waking up and seeing the WTS for what it really is, a high control religious group that doesn't much care about the individuals it draws it's own livelihood from.
jehovah's witnesses' land sell-off has brooklyn dreaming bigcrain's new york business - amanda fung-1 hour ago.
at stake are 34 mint-condition properties in brooklyn heights and dumbo that the jehovah's witnesses spent decades accumulating and now are considering ...it's always has been about the money...they talk about pristine real estate and the excellent pool of skilled craftsmen/women .
hey what about the paradise for my family 4 generations that slaved?.
"—and is worth well over $1 billion."
Wow! That's an awful lot of profitting for a non-profit organization.
ughhh!!!!
our recent circuit assy really cranked up the anti-education rhetoric.
in the experiences portion, the do and his wife were interviewed.
How true, BoC!
With the language of the WT and G getting more and more watered down to Simple English it reminds me of the book 1984 where through the simplification of English the thoughts that the people could express were simplified to the point where nothing could be said against the government. Eventually even thinking against was considered a "thought crime" and a form of mental disease. They're after people's thoughts, so as to make them work for them willingly and without too much trouble.
there was a thread recently where someone said they were helped a lot by seeing letters to and forth between active jws and the bethel.. with that in mind we've put the correspondence between co johnsson and brooklyn on freeminds as downloadable pdf's.
these are available elsewhere on the internet but this might help newbies to find them a bit more easily.. johnsson letters to bethel and their replies.
also as a reminder mary's project is also available for download - all 154 pages :-) :.
edited to add that Cyril Chain was the Writing Dept person who replied to Johnsson on the 22nd Feb 1980
So, that's who started the "Chain letters", eh?

Oppostate ducks and runs for cover...
with all of the legal mumbo jumbo and technicalties that the organization uses (recently brought to light in the australian case), i couldn't help but wonder what power the "no longer one of jehovah's witnesses" really has or even means from a technical standpoint, since the organization is so technical.
we know what it means when the announcement is made, but in reality, so-and-so never really belonged to any of the groups in the first place.
the law says that association or membership is voluntary, therefore the organization has the right to expel and shun someone for not following the guidelines expected of members.. what are the rank and file members of?.
The name Jehovah is a translation mistake made by a 14th century Catholic monk..
Wrong.
Jehovah is a transliteration of the tetragram. The original Hebrew has YHWH, but this is a transliteration too. The point was that as long as it's used in your language to represent a certain Bible personage then it's ok to use. Jesus is a transliteration from the Greek Iesous, and that from Hebrew YeHShWa'.
Now back to the point of this thread...
I recall reading something about the use of the name "Jehovah's Witnesses" with capital letters referring to the anointed, and without the capital "w", Jehovah's witnesses as applying to all those who've been witnesses for Jehovah, that is those Hebrews before J.C.'s time and those modern ones who aren't anointed.
But I think the WTS gave up on that idea and now everyone in their control is called a Jehovah's Witness.
So it would seem that now the name is only to show membership in the religion controlled by the Governing Body.
Evidently, if you don't accept the Governing Body's control over you then you're no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
It's all about them, and about their control, and before them it was the President of the WTB&TS.
some here have had the bonus of their mate leaving with them.
unfortunately, my wife is die-hard.
everything in the org makes sense and if it don't, thats fine too.
you ever went on jwn?
do you remember?
what made you do it?
OneDay,
I appreciated your telling the experience, but please tell us who the D.O. who said that was...
I had something similar happen to me but at a District Convention.
Who was the D.O.?
this weekend at our special assembly day, let gods will take place the final talk was a head shaker.... the bethel speaker was quite entertaining when he joked @ the shortcomings of the elders.
he also made us laugh with the comment "we were told the end of the system is right around the corner, but we've found its been more than that, we've been around the blocks a few times.
" he told the young ones to make the truth their own by researching in the wtbts publication (only).
Well, well, well! Wouldn't you know... all the heartfelt, off the cuff, comments by the different, visiting Bethel brothers were actually scripted and delivered in different Special Day Assembly venues!
What is oh so sad to me is that the elderly ones who are still so loyal are the ones now barely hanging on, being driven to return visits so they can get at least their 15 minutes of field service per month.
So many elderly one's in the Circuit I'm part of are suffering from Alzheimers and dementia, they couldn't tell you what happened five minutes ago, or just slowing down so much they couldn't care less what just happened five minutes ago, let alone what the keynote discourse by the Bethel speaker for this Assembly day was about. So it went over their heads, and the sad joke was on them, their efforts, their loyalty, their whole exhausted lives in service to a man made organization.
Sad indeed!
and now, a finding that intrigued me.. .
i always thought that the bulk of the publications come out of new york to other parts of the globe, if not produced in these last.
true?.
Some foreign language literature is printed and produced in other branches, including books, bibles and audio.
Then it is brought here for stocking and distribution to meet requests in the U.S.
