when local congregations need some service they will prefer to do business with a jw.
we paid more so as to save money. If you can understand this, please explain it to me.
We pay more so the WT can get a nice cut. Working in Conventions with the rooming dept. in Administration was quite an eye opener. The freebies that hotels would grant the WT in free rooms and meals was just obscene.
Then if a single mother with a child or two came to the desk saying she didn't have a place to stay we were always instructed to find elders in her congregation to deal with the need. Sometimes they even paid from their pockets if a room was found available.
In congregations where I've been there's always been business trouble among "the friends". One thing I've learned is to hire someone who isn't a JW to keep it all contractually pleasant and without surprises.

Excellent points, when the scriptures clearly say "has" and "did" the WT insists on placing these statements as being fulfilled in the future.
These are examples of how they are still hung up on the type/anti-type nonsense of Russell, Rutherford and Second Adventists.

If he only knew the WT frowns on folks going out for lunch at restaurants. When I attended there, a lot of folks were heading out at lunch time headed for the restaurants--against WT directives to not leave the premises during the day. (Either that or there were quite a few who were sick of the program and decided to go home! : - )
it's been four years (has it really been that long) that i haven't been on jwd.. i was back out west for a long while and i came back to new england.
just got an appartment with another sister and things are looking up.
i'm keeping under the radar and avoiding elder visits--not fully out of the kingdom hall yet.
There are others of the ex-JW persuasion in the area as well. Maybe there will be an Apostafest up here one day. Kind of an "anti-convention." Now that would something worth attending...
I'm about two hours from Manchester, NH. A New England Apostafest would be "wicked cool" as we say around here.
Lacking that, the Free Bible Students have a convention in Gordon College, North of Boston, every year. Last year they had saved up enough money they decided to offer free rooming for the week to anyone who wanted to attend. Jim Penton, Ron Frye, Gord Coulson and several other well known ex-JW's have been there sometimes.
It would be great fun to meet others from the forum in person who are locals!

Good for you, Ricky! Insist on doing things with them that are as far away from any JW friends as possible. Peer pressure to be like other kids at the KH is strong, and the indoctrination of the young seems to be getting worse and worse.
If you have family who aren't JW's then it would be great to get closer to them and let the kids see how they can have family and friends outside the WT cult.

while i do not argue the stand of atheism (because as a jew i find it totally logical and acceptable), i have noticed that there are odd carryover preconceptions about scripture that some hold as axiomatic about the bible (at least the hebrew texts), misconceptions that have nothing to do with the jewish scriptures themselves.. so regardless of what you may think of scripture, whether you believe it is of g-d or not, i thought some of you might enjoy a reference to see how much the watchtower teaching on scripture might still be influencing the conclusions you are making today...at least about the tanakh.

Jews come in all different shapes and sizes, you can't just ask a Jew because just about every single Jew has a different opinion, there's secular Jews, and reformed Jews, and progressive reformed Jews, conservative Jews, agnostic Jews, constrictivist Jews, marxist Jews, atheist Jews, and Orthodox Jews, and even Ultra-Orthodox Jews--How do you expect to make headway with your individual point of view if other Jews would argue tooth and nail about things you say?
