Shoot, even The Church of $cientology sponsors a few secular charities, I think.

Oct. 15th WT - Who Should be your Friend to Associate & Recreate With ?
by flipper inwith many of us here on jwn in a fading state trying to stay halfway connected to jw relatives - i thought it would be informative and helpful to know what the wt society is telling jehovah's witnesses about who or who should not be their close friends.
so if you experience even more shunning than normal - this article may be influencing some jw's to do this.
you won't find any new information here- but the wt society is definitely trying to control who witnesses hang out with.. in the article " is your recreation beneficial " ?

"Jesus drew a line between being friendly and being a close friend. While he was friendly toward people in general, he was a close friend only to those who met SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS"
Cyberguy, you hit the nail on the head. What the hell Scripture(s) do they even BASE this crap on?!

The only thing the WT knows how to "give" is rotten spiritual food. Anything outside of that is a one-off or a fluke... definitely never anything just for the sake of giving. There's ALWAYS strings attached. "The first one is always free"...

QFR: "Warning - memorial partakers might be loonies!"
by cedars inas part of my objective analysis of four month's worth of watchtower study editions from july to october 2011, i found the following gem from a question from readers, on page 22 of the august 15 magazine.
the question under discussion was "how are we to understand the figures in the annual service report?
", and it goes on to provide an idiot's guide to what the figures mean, including the following.... "memorial partakers.

I would think that the possible "mental or emotional imbalance" would apply DOUBLY so to those who started partaking as teenagers... wouldn't you (nudge nudge wink wink)?

This is another article so glaringly obvious it has to make me wonder if there isn't some apostate influence at work in Bethel...

You know, just when I think I can't be any more dumbfounded by what these goons print, they float another turd like this in print. Thank you Watchtower, for never failing to rise to the task of stirring me to spontaneously ask aloud, "No way. Are they for real? Did they really just say that"?

But, isn't it a "Wicked System of Things?"
by PenelopePaige ini am not a jw but one thing that they really get me on is when they call the outside world a "wicked system of things" and say it is run by the devil.
i know the world can be great and people can be wonderful but on the flip side, the bad seems to be getting worse and morals seem to be flying out the window.
i don't know, what do you guys think?

Like "The Faithful and Discreet Slave Class", "This Wicked System of Things" is one of those Tower-isms that grates on me more as time goes on. It's such a bleak, cynical, misanthropic worldview, intentionally crafted to demonize outsiders. Not Christlike at all. Call me naive but I like to try to maintain a positive outlook.

Another Question, if I May...
by AGuest ini truly hope you don't get trite, cliche, anecdotal, or sarcastic, but share with us what you really believe/feel/think.
i will start: for me, i define "success" as peace of mind.

Come on guys, the WT has told us OVER and OVER again, these kind of experiences happen FAR TOO OFTEN TO BE DISMISSED AS MERE COINCIDENCE! Whaddya want, actual numbers? Jeez, people! Where's your faith?
