Yep, I was told this by a dub friend yesterday - I didn't want to go, but I do now.

Jw`s and Charities
by zzaphod inhi all, i left the wts in the late `80s, i`ve not really given them a thought, until one sleepless night recently i was trawling the `tinterweb, and came across various videos on youtube.
anyway`s, the reasons i left were many and varied, and one day i`ll sit down and relate them, but two things have always stuck in my mind, once i was asked "if someone could convince you that without a doubt "the truth" was wrong, would you believe them?
", to which i answered "of course i would", - that was me marked.

Hi Zzaphod,
The society views money given to a charity as money that should be given to them. As a family we always gave to RNLI for the same reasons as yourself but found that any charitable giving had to be justified. If a charity had connections to religion or politics they were a definite no. Anything that would be rectified in the new system was also a no.
In addition we were misled into believing that the organisation undertook charitable works and disaster relief with our contributions so were shocked to discover that whilst individuals may have been motivated to help out during a disaster the organisation did less than nothing.
How blind we were. We now give to many charities but choose not to give to JWs who follow the keep warm and well fed philosophy.

Walking away is hard but often necessary. I can identify with what you said about the meetings being difficult to sit through once you know the truth about the org the meetings are very hard work.
Today we scived the meeting and spent the time in a Garden open to the public and it is true that you are closer to God in a garden than anywhere else on Earth.
Welcome aboard.

2009 Memorial Partakers is Highest Since 1967
by ThomasCovenant into the best of my knowledge if.
10857 is the latest number for memorial partakers then you have to go back to 1967 to get a higher number, 10981.. i wonder why they they don't print this in the january magazine anymore.. will they omit it even from the printed yearbook and only leave it as an mp3 online download?.

ThomasCovenant is a really cool name, I read the books even though they were in the do not read section.
Back on theme this is a nightmare to explain away. Even if you said these people were hidden in areas where work was banned it makes no sense. This figure is of emminent importance as mentally JWs use it to mentally assess how close to the end we are. It would seem that the end is moving away.
Number of annointed should go down or remain even. Coupled with the research on another thread that showed thousands of Christians died in early persecutions (in excess of 144,000) the numbers are a joke. How can someone living in relative comfort this century be judged as more worthy of a heavenly reward than those who died for their faith.
I can see the madness now.

jw son disowned & disinherited
by tsar_robles inmy dad who is already 60 something is thinking about disowning/disinheriting my brother.
he loves him dearly and has for some years tried to understand and justify his lack of 'natural affection' towards both him and mom despite them not being jw's.
for example, our mom lives in the same town we do and yet he would not visit her for all 2009. my dad lives 20 hrs away and has lots of trouble making ends meet with his part time job and my step mom's ss check.

Why Would Someone Like me Leave the "Truth"? Part 5 (Final Installment)
by cantleave inthis is a direct continuation od part iv.................................... you can imagine the reaction of the people who saw me storm out of the hall but what happened in the elders meeting after i left was even funnier.

You do come across a little bitter though,
I suspose there might be a little bitterness, I think it comes from the fact I took things so seriously and did my best for an organisation that didn't give a sh*t about me or my family. I have never had a Birthday, never celebrated xmas, was out in FS when my school friends were enjoying themselves. I gave the best years of my life to lie. I am now 43 and am having to start from scratch and that is quite daunting. The emotions that that really dominates though is sadness. SadnessI will probably lose people in my life who I have long considered to be friends. They will be poisoned by a culture of dishonesty, in the same way I was with Jerry.
2010 is a new year and a chance to put it all behind me. I have a long way to go before I get to where I need to be, but I 'm running there and not pussyfooting around.

Do JW's Put More Faith in the Watchtower or in the Bible?
by Sour Grapes init just drives me crazy when the brothers giving the public.
talk on sunday morning will say "the june 1, 1984 watchtower.
on page 10 paragraph 6 says........" the witnesses, in my.

JWs study the Watchtower it is the be all and end all. We are told to read and meditate on the Bible but not in isolation and not just any Bible. The Bible reading talk used to include application of the scripture. Now it is just a reading with no explanation. The Bible is only explained through the watchtower. Independent thought is forbidden. Research in secular sources is discouraged.
So many Catholics, Jews, Muslims and protestants study at university without loosing faith according to JWs these religons are deeply flawed. Yet despite all of this millions study and don't come out the other side hopeless heathens. What are JWs afraid of?

Thanks for that Grace. I do admire your use of icons and terms I still struggle with all that.
The way I did it was to click on the blue link. This opens up a page with a table asking if you want a pdf copy of study articles. There is a table and in the last column there is PDF where you can click to open the article.
I appreciate that you may have no wish to open up the articles which are very much same old same old.
What I find great about JWN site is that there are people of all ages and points of view, you learn about them from their posts and not from what they wear or what they look like. There is a true widening out here which is lacking in the congregations. It is like finding relatives you never knew you had.

Pedophiles should have the death penalty
by Leprechaun inpedophiles should have the death penalty .
too many, wonderful children are being wasted by these filthy low life sobs, why are these pigs from hell not put on death row in this country i will never know.
shame shame shame!.

This is a cruel world where the innocent can be preyed on by people unable to control their desires. It is hard for anyone to judge the strength of your feelings as you have faced something so corrupt that your feelings are bound to influence your ability to be dispassionate.
The problem for a subject so emmotive there is a real problem when the quest for justice results in the ultimate sanction. There are cases that are cut and dried but there are others where the evidence is not so clear where injustice can occur. I come from a country where the death penalty has been abolished so find the quest to kill hard to relate to. Since pedophiles can't be cured then society needs to be permanently protected from them. I can't believe that 8 years is considered an acceptable punnishment. They should be forced to stay in an institution until a cure is found even if it takes forever.
Identifying pedophiles in the community is also a problem. In this country a paediatrician was attacked because someone didn't know the difference between the two things. The biggest danger comes not from those you know about but those that have yet to be caught.
Sayong all the above I know that if anyone harmed my kids then death would be too good for them.
