Very funny and because I'm a Brit I agree.
Why DO Americans call their game football?

The Probabilty of there being an Intelligent Designer
by cantleave ini have been thinking a great deal about where i stand at this moment in time in terms of a belief in a creator verses a belief in an evolutionary process.
i think the best way to describe it is an exploratory path.
i look at what is around me and i acknowledge it is remarkable.

I think the problem that this thread is encountering is that several disciplines are beginning to overlap. science, religion, and philosophy. These disciplines sometimes seem to contradict one another, but that does not mean the whole of either discipline is wrong.
Cantleave here on the Mrs computer.
I think wobble has hit on a valid point here. When talking about the point before the singularity / the creator everything is hypothetical and speculation. A mathematical construct is no more valid than a philosophical idea until it has been tested and proven.
So is this the point where even a scientific explanation requires FAITH?

Do you feal like this?
by acolytes inwe doubted ourselfs and we doubted our beliefs.. but today we are our beliefs not some book not the elders nor the governong body.
those were just symbals of our desire to be just.. today we ourselfs are the symbal of our own justice.
today we believe in ourselfs and the justice of our heart.. we have become the victors.

I think I surprised myself when I acknowledged that I had always held beliefs that were not compatible with JW beliefs. There was a secret person that was always there who had their own moral code and core values.
I find that as a JW you are so busy trying to confrom that it is difficult to be comfortable in your own skin, once you break free of the constraints and make your own choices you feel more relaxed with your decisions. You don't constantly run things past JW internal checker so you are more self confident and self assured.

How Did You Know The One You're With Was "The One" ?
by palmtree67 ini'm feeling all warm and fuzzy, love-y and romantic because of my upcoming marriage, so i ask you all:.
was there something that happened to prove to you that your spouse or mate was "the one"?.
my man gave up his longest and best friend.

Sometimes we share the same thought and sometimes we are completely different.
The similarities are the setting and the differences are the gems that sparkle. A bit cheesy but 22 years in I wouldn't change a thing.

I think as has already been suggested your problem is a psychological one. You really need to discuss your concerns with an unbiased professional who can help you. Until you are comfortable in your own skin and know what you want out of life it would be a mistake to rejoin an organisation hoping they will provide a support structure for you. If they disappoint you and fail to live up to your expectations you will have added to your problems.

If she is determined to go then you will not talk her out of it. From your posts it sounds like she does not wish to be df'd and is trying to BS her way out of it.
Problem if she has been talking to others then they will have witnesses who may appear against her.
She can say she is grateful to have this opportunity to set the record straight. She has been doing alot of personal study lately and has been concerned about a number of things she has read in the old watchtowers which directly contradict what has been said in later editions. She has been sincerely searching the societies publications for the answers to her questions and may have expressed her concerns to others. This was merely in the hope that they had found the answers she was seeking. She now appreciates that some self directed study is not helpful and that she needs to be careful of the sources she uses.
If they could cite specific examples she would be more than happy to address the issues but really her concerns were a sincere attempt to draw closer to Jehovah and make the truth her own. Surely if the Boreans could be commended for diligent study of the scriptures then surely this is a goal she should also strive for.
She can appreciate how some may have got the wrong idea and will be more than happy to restrict her personal study to more recent publications as they will have the most recent light from the GB. In future if she has any concerns she will be happy to wait on Jehovah for the answers.
she is sincerely sorry for the trouble caused and the impression some may have taken away. Please be assured this was passion for the Truth not anything else.
I can't guarantee any success and it really depends on how gobby she has been. She should focus on what she can say and be prepared to repeat herself. JCs tend to go round in circles so the elders are likely to go over the same ground too.
She also needs to consider what they may require that she does to be in good standing and think about whether she would be happy to have a bible study with a Mature Sister etc.
If on the other hand she wants to be rid of the society then feel free to go in all guns blazing have her say and then walk out and leave them to it. Don't hang around to be prayed over and questioned just make a statement and get out. If Elders think she is an apostate they really will have little interest in what she has to say regarding false prophecy etc. They will see all this as a sign she is an apostate. She is unlikely to get any to think about their own beliefs. As many have suggested it may not even be worth the effort.

"Old School" Elders
by xelder inin the last few years that i served as an elder, and as i was discovering what the wts really was, the term "old school" would be used and it began to bother me more and more.
it was usually used to praise a person with a mean, unwaivering, dogmatism to an obselete policy.
a couple of times i would ask the person what he meant by the term.

I think old school means conditioned. I often wondered why so few got appointed because in the ideal congregation all mature men would be elders or MS. I think what it is is that men need to reach a certain level of conditioning before they can accept the policy files and carry out edicts without question. Progressive brothers who have reached the appropriate level will supress any doubts and wait on Jehovah, others will allow ambition and the importance of position to cloud their thinking ability.
On the outside we look at the policies and flip flops and see the irrationality and hypocrasy but deep in it all seems reasonable.
I'm the wife of an ex elder and know more about what they do now than I ever did before.
