UK convention dramas recorded by American actors - the GB's yearly gaffe
by cedars ini'm just curious as to whether any of my fellow brits ever pondered how the society can be so stupid as to insist using the us drama tapes at uk conventions rather than having them re-recorded in a british accent?.
as all of us brits know, the convention drama is a subject of subdued derision among uk publishers - and i've been to many a party or social gathering where, at some point, somebody whose had a little too much coke re-enacts a scene from a drama mockingly (typically by gesturing wildly into the air and saying "jer-ho-vah gaaard!!
" in an over-the-top american accent).. what the society clearly doesn't understand is that the dramas really lose their emotional impact with british audiences when performed in an american accent by amateurs.

The drama never failed to disappoint. The number of times one plastic rock and a table and chairs was supposed to represent a house in some wilderness. Lots of prancing around a field waving arms that was all indistinct. When they had the modern day dramas they were just extended demos with a 45 minute talk wrapped around it. The accents were apalling making the drama even less relevant if that was possible.

Special Event: Jehovah’s Witnesses, Former Members and Families May 12, 2012 Philadelphia, PA
Questions to Explore Attendees and facilitators will explore questions that are often central to the concerns of former members of cultic groups and families/friends troubled about a loved one’s group involvement:
About ICSA Exploring a psychological perspective
How are cultic groups different from and similar to other kinds of groups?
Why do people leave? Can departures be facilitated?
What problems do people have when they leave?
How can they manage these problems?
Disfellowshipping
Program 9:30 a.m to 5 p.m., with a 75-minute lunch break. We hope that attendees will chat informally during breaks, in the evening, and after the event. Saturday morning will consist of directed discussions aimed at encouraging participants to describe their relevant experiences and explore their current opinions regarding the key questions listed above. (Participants may choose not to contribute to discussions, if they wish.) In short, the event will focus on attendees’ experiences and views, not presenters’ prepared talks, so as to help attendees better understand these important questions and enhance their capacity to express themselves and help others as well as themselves. Fee $25 – Current ICSA Members $50 – Non-Members (includes free Web membership to ICSA)

Anti-witnessing.
by Phizzy insince leaving for good i have always liked to "anti-witness" whenever i get the chance.. i found that people used to question it if i called the jw's a cult, they used to say things like "oh they are not that scary !
", and of course the wt does a good job of masking its cult status, and its high control tactics.. most people too, are just not interested in doctrine.. so, lately i have simply started saying "it is a scam!
" , if they want details it is easy to say in a few words how the property business part of the scam works.. but i think if we can get the idea out there that it is a scam, pure and simple, then more people will avoid it than would merely on my or your claim that it is a false religious cult.. so, "scam's the word" if that goes viral it should stop a lot of people from falling for it.. of course, they will still suck some in, but they will be the same people still falling for the financial scams coming from nigeria..

I was at an international cult studies association meetup at the weekend. No one there doubts it is a cult and they are the experts.
