The 70 year old virgin! So tragic!

did anyone hear about this story?

this lady is 70, and has not done it yet.

now she thinks it's time, but she doesn't believe in premarital marriage.

What is tragic is that this woman has got to 70 feeling regret that she has not found anyone to share that intimate part of her life with. It is not about sleeping around but making a connection with someone else that allows you to express yourself in a physical way.

Malice your comment says more about you than anyone else. It shows a lack of empathy and a lack of respect for others.

In JW land many people make decisions they later regret, the decision not to have children, not to get married, not to be educated and not to pursue goals and ambitions. These people are robbed in a very profound way .

christmas puddings

in our last ca it was said from the platform that the gb has said we shouldn't buy food that is only produced at certain times of the year.

although not specified i imagine they meant turkeys, christmas puddings, easter eggs, hot cross buns etc.

the reasoning that it's attached specifically to pagan festivals.

good grief all witnesses go out on xmas eve to buy discounted christmas food. Some buy Easter eggs after Easter when they are cheaper. This is stupid it is just food and confectionery. By making a special point not to buy it you make more of it than necessary.

Lots of JWs out at tables this morning!

so, i actually stopped at two different tables that i saw.

the first was 2 elderly men - they were so sweet and open to discuss.

i brought up the topic of the divine name and why the wt inserted it into the nt with no evidence from greek manuscripts.

They should be lamenting that nothing was reported about the message they were preaching or the content of the assembly. I thought their main function was to spread the good news. Where is the good news here other than they all know where to find an iron?

Help me, how can I help a young adult?

so there is a young woman, over 18 years old.

she refuses to get her driver's license.

she lives in an area where the nearest "town" is 15 miles away.

Part of your job as a parent is to help children grow up and be independent, self reliant and confident adults. Your job is not to do everything for them and keep them tied to your apron strings their whole lives. As you have pointed out this young woman has been given no life skills and as a result of their controlling behaviour she is primed to seek out other controlling adults in life to carry on doing her thinking for her.

This young woman needs to grow up so she does not repeat the same mistakes with her own child bringing up another person to seek out dysfunctional relationships. The way I would approach it is by pointing out that she is a mother and what she does will affect this child. What if the child has an accident and needs to get to hospital if she can drive she can take it there. If the child develops a condition requiring hospital visits then being able to drive is an essential skill. She needs to show her child by her own example a strong work ethic and love of learning to equip that child with the right mental attitude. This is a time when being direct is important. However the grandparents still do not want to let go of the control byiut they will not be around forever and what then? She needs to wake up to the reality of what she would do if anything happened to them. They also need to wake up to the fact that if they were in need she would be worse than useless. Once they mean what they say about her being more independant rather than just paying lip service to it then things will happen.

the question i have is, should i even bother?

i am not even sure why he wants to watch this particular video.

ive already seen it with my wife a few days ago and already seen how they leave a lot of details out concerning their teachings of old.

If he doesn't know why is he following a doctrine himself that he does not understand? I would ask him how on a matter that affects life and death decisions he has chosen to be complacent and not investigate this thoroughly? I would suggest if he has been lazy on this issue he has been lazy on others and until he has investigated all his doctrines thoroughly including their origin and reasoning he is not in a position to teach you.

Ask him to come back when he is qualified to do so.
