i had two new positions open up out of the blue recently and as luck would have it...for some reason i know a helluva lotta ex-jws lol!

especially with two young and popular dfd sons who also hang with a lot of ex dubs...but that maybe is another thread....we are drawn to those with similarities very often and being an exjw is a pretty small club....and we left a true brotherhood to many and a network for sure to everyone else.

so at work none of the non jws care for the jws and some have asked them to stop giving them paper crap and leave them alone...when one of them acted pissed that i had told some of the guys he would not ride with me to a jobsite lmao....of course they thought a new level of insanity had overtaken one of my normally great employees...so i told her "why would i not mention that to the shop guy/friends...im not ashamed of anything???".

I think the Society might drop its appeal over the Conti case

i've been giving some thought to the recent development in which the judge has ruled that the society is barred from completing any property transactions until the appeal is over, which could take up to two years or even more.. i've submitted an article to randy at freeminds in which i basically argue that it is no longer in the society's interests to appeal this case.

if i correctly understand the restrictions placed on the society by the judge, then the governing body has far more to lose by appealing than they could conceivably gain.. think about it.... by appealing, they buy themselves time in which to formulate a long-term strategy for dealing with the fallout of this case, but will be barred from liquidating $1 billion in property assets at a time of global economic uncertainty when their donations are dwindling.

there is also no guarantee that their appeal will be upheld.by dropping their appeal, they take a hit and pay $23.8 million but retain the freedom to see through their real estate projects; retain their financial flexibility to respond to dwindling donations, and get to pretend to their followers (as with the un scandal) that it never happened.of course, i am only saying that dropping the appeal would be the only intelligent option for the society, assuming they are aware of how legally precarious their child abuse policies are.

There are several issues at play here. By not fighting the case they risk giving hope to others who were abused and opening themselves up to multiple suits. This could be extremely costly not to mention the constant stream of negative press articles. They base everything on how the look to the outside world and if they do not need the money straight away they will be prepared to wait it out.

They still retain the assets and there are multiple corportations making up the organisation that own other assets. The society as a whole is much richer than the court papers indicate.

Truly shocking, there was no mention of contacting the authorities, there was no effort to talk to the two girls concerned, it only came to light at all because he had touched a second girl and her mother was likely to make a fuss. All the signs were there that he was unable to control himself and had learnt nothing from his previous family talk. There was no counsel regarding limiting his contact with other young girls or monitoring his behaviour.

This is not a case where a stern talking to was an appropriate response. It shows the danger of relying on untrained men to make complex decisions about crimiinal acts.

Full of loaded language. Reading the Elders court testimony clearly shows how the organisation contributed to allowing the abuse to happen and just because Mr Kendrick wasn't an elder doesn't mean that the organisation bears a lesser responsibility. Elders assign and approve who works together on the service and the elders were aware of his past abuse but did not investigate it taking his confession alone nor did they make any effort to limit his contact with minors.

It really is there to reassure witnesses that this is some mistake. They don't mention other allegations that have been settled out of court implying that this is a one off event as if this is the first time they have ever been accused. Witnesses will read and believe.

My JW mum is in hospital

my poor mum fell over on sunday and broke her hip.

she was taken to hospital and yesterday had an operation to place a pin in the joint.

this was obviously a worrying time for all concerned and my dad let us all know what was going on.

Thank you all for your support. Quick update, my sister in the US called last night to get an update. My older JW sister had called her and told her how she was looking after mum in hospital but that none of the rest of us seemed to want her around. No one is being nice to her and she can't understand why we all hate her. I told my younger sister what had happened regarding the blood and how upset and concerned my father had been leading to his hostile reaction. I pointed out that I had been very nice to her it was her choice to walk off and not talk to me. My younger sister is now also cross with her for interfering. She hates my mum's crack pot religion. I have pointed out to her that mum is finding comfort from her visits and is very appreciative for what she has done and really we just need to focus on helping mum through this and present a united front.

It is funny that JWs are so egocentric, everything is about them and any problem is them being persecuted. They cannot see sometimes when they are the creators of their own issues and how their attitude breeds drama.

WTBS and Appealing a Civil Judgement

in light of the candice conti civil trial against the wtbs and the pro-jehovah's witness/apologist comments posted on various news websites, i thought i would give a simplified explanaition of what is involved in appealing the outcome of a trial in the courts of the united states.. a trial, whether criminal or civil, usually ends with a verdict rendered by a jury.

in a criminal case the verdict is guilty or not guilty.

that same jury may decide the punishment in the event of a guilty verdict.. in a civil case a jury must decide based on the evidence whether the defendant is guilty of damaging the plaintiff.

When I saw my mum my sister was there too with her Elder husband. Good grief they looked so uncomfortable. My Dad took one look at my sister and promptly went to the car to avoid yelling at her in front of my mum and she looked as if he had punched her in the stomach. My sister then proceeded to talk to my mum and ignore me. When I interjected it was as if I was invisible in the room and they very quickly left. They said bye to mum and when I said bye they totally ignored it. It was sad she didn't look happy or at ease. This is the first time I had seen her for over a year and it was like I was invisible. But on the plus side I felt at ease and in control I actually had all the power because I could talk to whoever I wanted to, who cares they didn't really talk back got to pity them.

My mum confirmed that her operation was delayed and they had to bring in a special team due to the non blood thing which annoyed the hospital staff and infuriated my dad. She looks very pale and is obviously extremely tired so this was no simple procedure. My Dad is very concerned that my sisters interference has compromised my mother's recovery I have never seen him so mad. That being said my mother is a Witness and whether right or wrong was non blood surgery what she wanted? I may not approve of the decision but I respect her right to insist if that is what she wants. My sister may have interfered with her own agenda but she may have enabled my mother to get hat she wanted. My mum certainly seemed appreciative of her visit. As I said to her we all want the best for her although we may disagree on how that is achieved.

These things are rarely black and white all I hope is that my mum makes a good recovery and starts to get some colour. I am worried in case she becomes anaemic. Will see her again at the weekend by which time she should be more herself and not quite so high on painkillers. I may even see my sister again thinking of wearing a Sparlock Tshirt as she has just been to the assembly.

DT yes I get a sense of the dissonance too it can't be comfortable reading and some of their analogies are poor at best.

Shirley - some new Dubs have dropped into the mix now primarily Cass who thinks that saying something emphatically is enough.

Yes it is a Southern England Accent more specifically West Sussex. My Dad was a pronunciation freak and likes us to speak properly if you want to drive him nuts drop h's all over the place.
