The society has had ten years to change and arrogantly felt that there was no need. Time will not make it change only pressure from outside that causes financial penalty will force it to change. The commission is probably the best hope for witnesses in Australia. I am hoping that the publicity generated from the commission will get into the witness subconcious and start them thinking.

My mother passed away this morning...
by Tatiana infor any old-school ex-jws here that remember my many posts about my abusive jw mother and my sister committing suicide because of it...she passed away this morning because she began to bleed out and refused a transfusion.
she had been in the hospital for a month.
it appears she suffered a stroke and wasn't found by the brothers & sisters for three days (they missed her at the meetings).

So sorry for your loss. I am sorry that you were unable to see her before she died and that you have to endure a kingdom hall funeral.

My son's heart is broken
by ruderedhead ini'm sure someone here has experienced this before.
please help me help my son.
his wife of 15 months told him last night that she needs her space, that what she wanted 1 year ago isn't the same as what she wants now.

I feel for your son, he is trying to do his best but it seems that whilst he loves her she no longer loves him as much as she did and she wants different things. Sometimes relationships are unequal and some people are more in love than others. Your son has been so busy working and travelling he probably didn't notice signs of cooling off so this is a horrible shock. She may have been unhappy for a while and this has been brewing for a while. Long distance relationships are vulnerable.
He could try counselling but for it to work both of them do need to want to try. If she refuses to give it a go he may have to walk away which is easier said than done. If they are talking that is good but your son also needs to listen carefully to what she says so he can understand why she feels as she does.

A story of brotherly love.....
by Tatiana insince i've been here, from around july, 2001, i haven't really shared any personal experiences of why i left the society, except for the story about my sister who committed suicide.
this is kind of long, so i will tell it in parts.
if this is god's organization, i will gladly be a devil worshiper.. here goes....... when i was about 27 years old, (around 1984) after my divorce, i'd moved from laurens, south carolina back to andrews, sc, and rented the house beside my grandmother.

Her death was not a vain one since it accomplished a great deal. I am so sorry that you had to go through this painful experience. You did all you could and gave a dying woman compassion and dignity. Although at the end you could not be with her she knew that her daughter was coming and that all had been forgiven that is probably the greatest thing you could have done for her at that time.

I truly hate the idea that waiting on Jehovah is the only option. In the Bible there is no indication that Jehovah appreciated apathy and blind acceptance of what was wrong. He didn't hold back from punnishing the nation of israel for blindly following their religious leaders. JWs use the line in the same way small children put their fingers in their ears to block out unpleasant information.
She is your wife and it is natural that you love her but she is also controled by the society. Ask her to prove her statement that it is better to wait on Jehovah. Ask her if she dislikes a statement you make to prove it is untrue. If she won't defend her faith then what is it really worth? Don't press her too much as she will cling to what she knows she won't be able to help herself.

So tragic that this was made public in 2002 and yet nothing changed. Abusers were treated the same and more victims were created. The society has no shame and is fully aware of the transient interest people have in these stories. Hopefully the commision will make changes that they will be forced to comply with.

You cant use Patterson! Court denies Watchtowers bond motion
by cedars inhere's my article on the latest development in the conti case.... http://jwsurvey.org/cedars-blog/you-cant-use-patterson-court-denies-watchtowers-bond-motion.
i've tried to write it in such a way as to explain what's going on for people (like myself) who struggle to understand complex legal issues.. i've also availed myself of the help of a valued poster on this forum who wishes to remain anonymous.. i hope people will find the article helpful.
as always, if people notice any problems with it, please let me know (as kindly as possible!

The longer they drag this out the more petty and corrupt they seem. Their only aim must be that this is a war of attrition and they hope that she runs out of support before they do.

Interesting quotes from the Feb 15th Watchtower (it's not a cult at all, honest!)...
by cedars inwell it's the 15th today, so i thought i'd check to see whether the feb 15th watchtower has been uploaded yet... and sure enough it has.. here is the link to the pdf.... http://download.jw.org/files/media_magazines/5a/w_e_20130215.pdf.
i've breezed through it and noticed that it is littered with odd stuff that would scream "cult!
" to an outsider, but which your average indoctrinated jw will just lap up as always.. here is my pick of the quotes.... the first article, entitled "this is our spiritual heritage" gives a very flattering whistle-stop tour of the history of god's organization - from abraham to tynedale to rutherford (bypassing russell altogether) before explaining that nothing will ever thwart jehovah's purposes.

It is interesting to see the continued distancing from Russell. I was also interested to seethe concept of the valley of protection. I have learnt how worthless the societies protection is in reality. A conditional valley dependent on where you are, who you are and what you believe.

The religion calls itself "The Truth". This implies they have set themselves a high standard to be truthful. The religion also imposes penalty on those that deviate from current teachings which can include shunning by family members. So the religion is saying not only that they are "the Truth" but also all members have to follow their version of truth without question or personal viewpoint.
If they make a mistake and then change their doctrine you have to accept that at some point they taught something that was incorrect and therefore not true. If it was not true it was a lie and fell short of the standard they have set for themselves. People may have died or been persecuted because they faithfully followed old doctrines for example on blood, they may have been Df'd because they disagreed with the societies interpretation of scripture and expressed doubts. Harm was caused.
We accept that humans make mistakes but whilst the society wants its members to accept that they are not infallible it also insists that members accept all changes without question. They never apologise for harm caused, they never contact those df'd for questioning doctrine and apologise. It is the arrogance and duplicity that is the cause of outrage and disgust. They use expressions such as new light to hide behind implying that what they are doing is tweaking interpretation and discourage members from looking into outside influences or talking to people with a different point of view.
It is heinous and if you aren't stumbled perhaps you haven't realised the size of the problem.
