  Planted a seed today... Update on de-program of my 16 year old son

  well, some of you know that i have a 16 year old son who lives with his jw mother.

  she has already mastered the art of guilt control on him.

  i am most anxious that he not get baptized at all or at least unless he has really understood the whole truth, not just the watchtower truth.

  The great thing about children is they can quickly shake off the indoctrination. I know my own daughter struggled early on when we were starting our fade. She didn't want to participate in christmas celebrations at school and struggled when we stopped our witness routine. Today however a mere 2 months on we celebrated my Dads birthday yesterday and baked an enourmous cake for him which she helped ice. Today she is attending her first formal birthday party ever. This morning she chose a new outfit and purchased the gift for her friend she got ready at 2 o'clock today and the party starts at 5.

  The great thing is she has none of the guilt because we tell her as we formulate our own ideas. She understands and accepts that as a family we are changing and she is embracing the change. Your children are very lucky to have the alternatives offered to them. Be supportive and keep the information at a steady rate as you have done.

  Please welcome my sister!

  although she has posted once here herself (ange 2.0), i would like to introduce everyone to my sister ange.

  up until a week ago, i had not spoken to her for 5+ years after i da'd.

  we are both 3rd generation with hard core parents (just hard core attitudes, not hard core jw activity).

  Big welcome, it is often children that bring to light the nonsense. That and the thought that you may let them die over a principle makes you take stock of what you learnt and what you teach.

  It can happen breaking free with family intact is a privilege, those still held captive are a cause of distress. Giving up JW friends can be tough but life moves on and I am grateful for all my apostafriends out there.

  Well, I told my mom today that I haven't been to a meeting in 5 months plus I need some advise for next Saturday

  me and my mom made plans to see each other today so this morning she called me and said she was already in my area and wanted to know where to meet up.

  i told her that i wasn't ready yet so to come to my apartment first.

  i said that me and my husband are still in our pjs and she gasped and ask, "you didn't go to the meeting today?

  Tell your Uncle you have no desire to prove JW beliefs wrong, your only hope is for him to restore your faith and prove these things right. You have failed on your own and perhaps he can help.

  Stick to one thing only Cyberjesus is right, he cannot be reasoned with and he won't want to hear what you have to say, by prolonging the conversation you dig yourself in deeper and are heading for JC.

  If 607 is where you want to go then keep evidence to trusted archeologists say this is what you don't understand. If the premise is wrong the conclusion is wrong. State you have found no source outside the society that agrees with the 607 date. Please if he can find the trusted source that the society used to establish the 607 date then you would be so relieved.

  Leave it at that. Keep the tone light and sincere, keep the meeting short. If he tries to cover other topics and ask other questions about faith tell him you are grateful for his concern and really it is this issue that is causing you a little concern and really he can help you best by resolving this small point. Don't get distracted to other points as he will use them as a stick to beat you with later.

  Use your own diversions e.g. how is his family doing? Is he enjoying his work? Earthquakes etc.

  Also make sure that you set the time frame e.g. I am glad you came but I can only talk for 30 minutes as I have to be somewhere else at whatever time. This way he can't camp on the sofa.

  Your relationship with your children is different than with your mate

  i was reading easyrider's thread about the co's council on children and the comment about the discrepancy between kicking out your kids vs. keeping a mate who doesn't serve jehovah.. i think your relationship with your kids is very different than your relationship with your mate.. your kids will always be your kids, no matter what.

  nothing will ever change that.. not so with your mate.

  they could die or you could divorce.

  Your children have a different relationship with you than your spouse, this is true but is does not mean that this makes it disposable. When we were reviewing what we believed my husband asked me if I woulkd shun my children and I had to say no. Pretending that they were dead to me because they chose not to stick with a particular religious teaching was and is disgusting.

  My children have offered me unquestioning love all the time I tried to indoctrinate them into a cult how cruel for me to withdraw my love from them if my choices for them turn out to be flawed. Dfing is not something they do to themselves it is a form of bullying we impose on them. As adults our job is to keep our children from harm and help them grow to independance how does Dfing do this and how does shunning improve it?

  A JW in X-Factor!

  i saw today that one of the contstants in the danish x-factor is a jw, and she is quite good!

  a tabloid had a newspaper where she described her faith, she sounded quite nice and said she had never been teased by her faith.

  How Would You Define a 'False Christian'?

  on another thread, a christian used the phrase, "true christian".. .

  this got me to thinking, how would you define a "false christian"?

  Judas was a false christian, he pretended to serve the interests of Jesus and God and yet actively betrayed them.

  The GB are false christians, they claim to serve the interests of Jesus and God yet they betray them by keeping the R&F in tyranny. Everyone who knowingly promotes a lie that harms people who are striving to serve Jesus and God are false christians.

  Let us not forget that there are people who genuinely believe they are doing what Jesus wants but are misled. Jesus didn't condemn the Jews who were under the tyranny of the pharasees he reserved his anger for the religious leaders of his day. Yes Jws do bad things in shunning others and showing an arrogant attitude but these are learnt cult behaviours some of us were like this too once.

  they fought well, albeit with unrefined technique.

  pure strength of authority apparently seems to make up for a lack of sufficient evidence, just as the 300-pound fellow who believed you were checking out his girlfriend can beat the tar out of you even though you were merely looking at the clock behind her on the wall.

  SD7 This is the elders enjoying their power trip. Your wife got off lightly because she showed due deference to the cult and is therefore no threat to them. I am sorry that they want to drag this on for yet another session espeacially since they are not really wanting to examine how you feel or the points you have made. They just want to look all important and intimidate. These are small men feeling important by ganging up on someone else. Remember they have no legal training, no training in psychology, no training in investigation, no training in counseling their specialist subject is the policy files and how to apply them.

  What will be will be, keep strong, you have held up well, who knows whether you have made them think if only for a moment. It worked for my husband eventually you may be doing better then you know.
