Judical Committee- FUBAR decisions

i had posted this as part of another thread, but thought it might make a good separate thread.

here's a jc fubar decision that i experienced.. i dealt with a brother who threatened to kill his family, my family, and then himself.

this guys' secret sins were becoming manifest and as an elder some things came to my attention, including wife abuse and according to her, allegations of possible misconduct with the young daughter.

It is entirely believable and that is what makes it so sad. The rot is endemic now in the organisation and no congregation has escaped. This is an extreme example and yet there are so many other experiences of elders and others manipulating JCs and trying to silence critics through reprimands and other bullying tactics. It's all smoke and mirrors, let's pick a victim and focus on their faults so no one notices me.

I used to think this was a benevolent organisation that could be saved now I think it is a poisonous canker that has to go.

Cookies are ok so long as you pay in installments and take small bites. It's all down to fractions.

Also cookies are ok if packaged in a pinata.

Signing Publisher Record Cards

i know this doesn't apply to all countries.. however, is it a 'requirement'?.

is it enforced?.

is it optional?.

There are no reprecussions. It is a requirement under the data protection act and freedom of information act. It grants permission to share data. Presumably if you refused to sign the card you are refusing to grant permission for the information on the card to be shared. In truth I don't know of anyone who refused to sign the card since it was positioned as an administrative requirement not a scriptual one. After all if you have done the hours and jumped through the hoops to be a publisher why wouldn't you sign? It is treated in the same way as those tick boxes at the end of forms. It's a one off signature.

The elders may find it a little confusing if someone declined to sign but cannot compel someone to sign it.

Presciption drug addiction

i was wondering if any of you have experienced this problem or know of someone that has.

i know someone with this problem and this person is in counseling and taking medication to fight the cravings, but it's still a constant battle.

it's my daughter, and i'm desperate for advice.

The trouble with any form of addiction to drugs is that stopping completely can be incredibly dangerous. This is an area where professional help is essential. As she is in counselling she has already taken an important step. It is a tricky one because people have to realise that there is a problem and they need to make the change for themselves. People trying to give up to please someone else can sometimes relapse when things in their relationships do not go well.

You can be there and supportive making sure that if she relapses that she quickly gets back on the programme. Remind her why she is stopping and reassure her of your support but don't allow her to make excuses. Focus on getting back on the programme.

It is a hard job and takes incredible will power and time. I wish you good luck.

And these are the people who are supposed to welcome back the resurrected ones and rebuild paradise. I see an awkward moment for some of the newly resurrected ones who might think they'd ended up in hell when their murderer comes up to greet them.

Do you feel that suicide is wrong?

minimus got me thinking with his thread about whether or not you know anyone that committed suicide.

i think it might be interesting to see what the opinions are.. what do you think?.

are there cases where it is understandable?

There was a quote on a TV show about someone who had interviewed everyone who had tried to commit suicide by jumping off the golden gate bridge but survived. All the people had realised about half way down that everything they had thought was wrong with their life was fixable. Everything that is, except for the fact that they had just jumped off the bridge.

Many commit suicide because at that moment everything is overwhelming. With good counselling and affection from family and peers these problems can be overcome. In these cases suicide is wrong .

However how can I judge someone who after careful consideration and because of immense suffering sees death as their only release? In these cases I only object when they ask a family member to do the deed on their behalf. They are released from their problems but expect someone to live on with the knowledge they killed someone they loved.

It is a difficult subject though and a very good question.

the gist of the article is that trade schools are becoming increasingly poplular in our down economy, and that many of them deceptively market themselves, to put it nicely.

far too many students graduate from these outfits with tens of thousands of dollars of debt and zero job prospects.. when i was 19 years old, i decided to take the "spiritual" and "theocratic" route by foregoing a college education in favor of a quick trade school program.

The society is happy to push people into dead end jobs because then the only place for fulfillment is the congregation. I agree the young need to wise up and make the most of their education. Hopefully as the end seems to move further away some may consider their future prospects more carefully.

Do You Personally Know Of Anyone That Committed Suicide?

lately, i've come to find out that a more than a few people in the area had killed themselves.

most of the people i know of were in their early twenties or forties.

for those loved ones surviving them, it was mostly a shock!

I know of 2 one who suffered years of depression and bi polar disorder who finally ended it all. I know of another who committed suicide to escape the consequences of his heinous crime. Both had very different reasons. I have heard of many others but never met them so am not able to comment on their state of mind at the time. It does seem incredibly common and deperately sad.

Fam'ly ambush led to reproach brought on JW brand name

in the aftermath of the family intervention ambush, i got a phone call from my great uncle (never been a jw).

he told me he'd heard about my wife reading my e-mail and taking it to the elders (although she didn't actually show them the e-mail, just reported its contents).

apparently, my grandmother told him about it.

I think that of all the doctrines JWs teach the shunning policy is so hard to justify. It is a madness that people follow without question. I was asked to provide an explanation to the wife of a Df'd person as to why her husband could attend a wedding at a kingdom hall but not the reception. It was a relief not to have to do it. I told her she was seeking a rational explanation for something irrational.

It is funny that people outside the organisation can quickly identify the non christian behaviour and people inside cannot. Talk about letting your light shine.
