Don't postpone living and don't confuse drudgery for fulfilling work. Look for opportunity and believe in yourself leave the past behind and don't carry it with you.

Do Witnesses serve Jehovah for a "Paradise" payday!!
by Witness 007 inyes go to meetings and field service otherwise no "payday" for you!
witnesses spend many hours serving jehovah because they will live forever in paradise on earth.....yes, they won't die like the rest of mankind.....so is this really why people serve god...for a final payday in the future?.

In theory you serve God because you love him and want to please him. We are told we do not serve for a date or a time and the CO made it clear that any of us could die at any time. It is coincidental that there is a reward to be had JWs should serve their god whether there is a paradise or not because they owe him.
It is a bit like looking after parents who become dependent you nurse them and care for them because you love them. At some point in the future you may inherit a fortune but the care is done for love not because you expect something.
That is the theory but in truth it is the prospect of living forever, the thought that dead relatives may come back and you'd miss them, the hope that all those things you so desperately wanted to accomplish would be available to you all that keeps you at the grindstone. As a member of the great crowd you have moved so far down the pecking order it is all you have to cling to. It's like the dependent relative isn't your dad or mum, it's some strangers dad or mum and you are staff doing a job for which you get no pay. You have to beg the relatives to ask the sick person to remember you in their will.

Just got a job offer!
by daniel-p ini am one happy clam!
just got a job offer at almost 10k over my current salary plus another 10k after 2 years.
it's with an agency that would afford me many more professional opportunities, transferability, and promotion potential, and, most importantly, provides excellent benefits and job security and comes at a time when i need an offer since my current company is closing soon.. also, one of the more awesome things is that this job is under the dod, so i can stick it to the watchtower!.

Disfellowshipped People Are A Bad Lot
by garyneal ina week prior to my wife being baptized she and i discussed the reasons why people are disfellowshipped.
she says that people are disfellowshipped because they simply want to live their lives the way they want to and no longer submit to god's will.
in other words, they want to do something that is immoral and goes against bible principles.

Some Df'd people are bad people, when someone has abused someone else then there is no doubt they got there just desserts. But Df'd people can also be desperate people struggling with deep seated issues and problems in their lives who were unfortunate that their father wasn't the CBOE.
Some are people with honest doubts who desperately want to believe that they haven't invested their lives in a lie but can't be convinced. In most cases DFing is a blunt tool used to keep people in line.
Also you don't need to be Df'd to be a bad person, there are people sitting in kingdom halls hiding secret sins and horrible crimes, using the system to protect themselves from the consequences of their actions. There are spiteful petty people who abuse power and make people's lives a misery. In the scheme of things religon attracts all sorts. I'd just like to say that some of the Da'd, DF'd and faders on this board have been some of the nicest people I have ever met.

2 things please: I need help with essay topic AND I'm having a crappy week
by 2pink inyes, this is a dual post because i'm lazy like that.

first things first: i am writing an argumentative essay this week on any topic of my choice for an english class.

I am sorry that you are having a difficult time. I would explore the following: Can a religon that encourages people of other faiths to check their beliefs, prevent their own members from doing the same? Gives you the opportunity to point out discrepancies between public and study versions of the watchtower and talk about the way that bullying tactics are used to keep people from studying the history and doctrines of the faith. You can also discuss the consequences for those that discover the real history, false quotes and false doctrine after having made a commitment to the faith.
Might help you to vent a bit on paper but try to keep objective as the essay will have more impact that way.

Dinosaurs
by roadrunner4speed indoes anyone realize that dinosaurs are mentioned in the bible?
god told us he created all the beast of the field didn't need to.
mention dinosaurs seperatly.

The bible does mention great sea monsters and dragons which may be a reference to dinosaurs who knows. The science on this is undeniable denying facts is not productive and never helps your argument. In this instance you need to provide a theory that works with the scientific fact. Scientists have no interest in disproving scripture, their interest is in making sense of the physical world so start with that premise.
We know there were dinosaurs and we know they lived more than 7,000 years ago. How does that fit with a creator and his grand purpose? What does it tell us about the Bible account? What can we learn from it?
