So he would rather live during a time when heretics were executed would he, plague, civil war, regicide and turmoil, grinding poverty and inequality. These days he can disturb people in their homes and inflict on them his corporate doctrine and have his rights to do so protected. Life more tranquil then? Really?
Sometimes you can't help stupid people but you did a good job trying.

does the gb really believe or is this a game ?
by mP inim assuming we all realise the gb may be many things but the individuals are not fools.
given the changes in ideas, formulation of new light and so on, do they buy the fascade they are presenting ?
if theres anyone in there, surely they as men, know how very man made it has always been.

The gb is a closed group and very much protected from dissenting voices. People around them keep the bad apples away and they live in an arrangement where they receive a certain amount of defferance. These men have reach the pinnacle of their ambitions being proven company men to have been offered the post in the first place. There life world and experience is based on this very claustrophobic environment. They do get foreign travel and there are accounts of gb members travelling to foreign countries doing the minimum required and combining spiritual duties with holidays.
Because they are such a closed group and because criticism is discouraged these men are more likely to make bad decisions. They will not debate consequences of their decisions or accept that there may be other ideas they have not considered. They will not accept the idea that they may be wrong. Everyone around them reinforces this idea. It takes a lot to resist the constant pressure to conform to the group. I don't believe they all believe in the Devine but they go along with it and bow down to the most forceful personality within them.

They don't think you can truly be happy "outside"
by lilbluekitty ini was on the phone with my mom last night (she's an uber-dub with a don't ask, don't tell type policy where we basically just don't discuss the fact that i celebrate holidays and go to church regularly etc.
) and she said she was talking to one of my old friends from the hall there.
the friend asked my mom how i've been and my mom said she made a face and kind of went "ehhh..." and talked about my lack of meeting attendance (she doesn't know it's way more than that) and my friend shook her head and said, "aw, that's too bad, but i've been in ruts like that before" as though i'm just depressed and don't feel like going lately.

witnesses are conditioned to think that people who leave the organisation are miserable and when they reach the pits of despair they will return. It is a shame that they cannot process the idea that leaving the organisation can makes you happier and less stressed.
I found fading hard you cannot speak your mind or be entirely free however if you are celebrating holidays and visiting church then you are already moving towards a degree of freedom. I feel sorry for your mum still trapped in a place where the unfaithful and faithful have to be equally miserable.

Do Wicked Elders and Elderettes Think Jehovah Is Stupid?
by Bubblegum Apotheosis inbrother pathological liar has remained in his position (appointed by the holy spirit) for thirty years now.
he has no problem lying under oath.
(prayer before a judicial comitte, investigation) or slandering anyone who might stand up to his darkness.

they don't think about god at all. They see the congregations as a means of fulfilling their ambitions and will lie and bully people in order to gain position and influence. They do not think they will be held accountable for anything whatever they profess publicly. I have know an elder who lied, manipulated the other elders and wasn't above making false accusations to deflect critcism from himself. He was vindictive and spiteful and a thoroughly unpleasant person when crossed and yet despite the fact that other elders were aware of his failings he was still COBOE.
Not everyone who attends meetings is a believer and since God is not involved in elder appointments it is likely that some elders do not believe in him either. It suits their purpose to dress their prejudices and bullying in the clothes of religion but it has nothing to do with faith.

Common JW phrases that aren't in the Bible
by biometrics ini'm interested to know common phrases jehovah's witnesses use, but don't actually apear in the bible (even the nwt).
especially phrases most jw's would assume are in the bible.
e.g.. "paradise earth".

I Was Offered A Bible Study By The Elders
by minimus in2 elders, the cobe and his sidekick, a former bethelite and a young ms (elder in waiting) stopped by my mom's home while i was visiting with her.
they were very congenial and eventually asked me if i got invited to the memorial and whether they could arrange a future visit with me and a possible study.
i thanked them and told them i appreciated their invitation but that i was going to "pass at this time" but thanked them for their concern.. they recited a "wonderful experience" about a young man that was raised in the "truth" but wanted out so he decided to go to asia where he could not be found by witnesses.

Ask them if this was Andre. If it was chances are he will relapse into alcholisim, drug addiction or the lure of pornography and have to be saved all over again.

When Someone You Love Is Removed As An Elder!
by Bubblegum Apotheosis inlast week we lost a wonderful elder (removed, stepped down is what i will believe) , this man was as real, as you can get.
he loved the sheep,.
his eternal optimism of humanity is a rare quality in the jw religion.

In the end being an elder is an empty title and when you walk away from the organisation you realise how much stress comes with the position. Stepping down was the best thing my husband did for us all and for any good man it is the same. They don't need a title to be good people.

How to get your family out of the JW world.
by Giordano inon another thread a new poster the truth is mine talked about needing to stay undercover so that he doesn't lose control of his family to all of his well meaning theocratic relatives.. i remember reading a number of success stories about how some on this forum managed to get out with their families intact.
in particular i was looking for mad sweeney's account of his family bible study night and others who were able to find a way to connect to their loved ones.. i imagine there are a number of lurkers/posters who would like to know how they accomplished that..

When my husband confessed his doubts to me I was taken aback and it took a while for me to process what he was saying. I had my own doubts but had always held the thought that Jehovah would sort things out in his own time. However the fact I had doubts at all meat that I was probably willing to accept that the organisation was not always right. My husband was a bit relentless in taking every opportunity to diss the organisation and the early history and we would have conversations that got to the point when I had to say I've had enough today just stop.
He asked me to read Combatting cult mind control and at the end of the book I could accept that the organisation was at the least a high control group although I wasn't prepared to use the Cult word. I then read Crisis of Conscience and no longer thought that the GB were good men who made mistakes but corrupt men who didn't care about the flock and the religion was based on a lie.
It took time and my husband didn't necessarily use the best techniqies. Had I been an Uber dub then I may have confessed all to the elders early on. It worked for me but not for everyone. What I have learnt is that the person has to be ready to accept the possibility that the organisation is wrong. Unless there is something to build on it is very hard to engage them in conversation of any kind. It is usually a slow process and you need to progress at their pace. Letting them discover information for themselves can be better than telling them what to believe. Asking questions and asking for answers also helps.
Anyone trying to get family members out remember time is on your side there is no judgement day and imminent destruction and things change. Just because someone can't see your point of view today does not mean that they may not have doubts in future.
