Sorry I took so long to get back to you all, my ISP engaged in some unauthorized turmoil.
About six months ago at work, I met a man from Yugoslavia, he was an amazing player he had actually won some tournaments in Europe. Quite a feat!! He began to show me how to improve my game and although I am still a beginner (I rank about 1300 on yahoo) I would enjoy to get some games in with some of you.
I’ll try to email some of you gamers this weekend to set up a game.

if you are an employer, never hire a jehovah's witness.
the reason for this is simple: that mistake may cost you a lot of money!
you can bot expect a jehovah's witness to do what they are told to do, but you can expect them to do the oposite!

Just so you know I am in management and I do have the authority to hire and fire people, but you are correct in that I have never had to deal with JW's. The way I get around any employee problems is to hire all new people as temps after 3 months you know if you want to keep that person or not. If the employee is a keeper hire them if not cancle their contract and bring in another temp. Simple solution.

i have rarely found anything written by active jws here.
it causes me to wonder if this was actually set up by an active jw and got out of hand.
especially since the site asks us not to stumble our brothers.. ooooo....i have been warned about evil boards like this!!
Warning I might be speaking out of turn here.
I remember browsing this board when it was first established and days would go by with no posters. Its my opinion that Simon set this board up to be a type refuge for JW's that are leaving, out, or just in some way been victimized by the organization. Initially I think Simon was a little concerned that if the board was filled with apostates that some JW's that needed help would not look here for it. I remember that Shuan (the webpage person) got her posting priviges revoked for being an apostate. My point is that I believe originally Simon maybe wanted this board to be a little gentler but he would have to confirm that himself.

and how many, due to the societies teachings have given up on god all together ?
Just a thought on why so many Ex-JW's are atheist.
Outside of the fundi churches many people that call themselves christians do not base their faith on the bible. The bible is thought of as one of the tools that people use to get to know their creator and not the only tool. Many liberal xian churches also believe that the bible is not inerrant, and that we must realize that some of the bible is not the inspired word of god, but instead the word of man.
As Jehovahs witnesses our whole faith was based on the bible. As JW's leave the organization they begin to learn about the bible and realize that it is not inerrant. This I believe has one of two effects:
(1) people decide the bible is wrong therefore no God exist, or
(2) people decide that the bible was not written to convey facts but was written to convey a general message. Leading to a more liberal view of God and spirituality.

I believe in some form of God. I believe that if you look at the examples of Jesus, Gahndi, and Mother Teresa, you can see examples of God like behavior in people; examples worthy of emulation.
I don't believe in the god of fundementalist, JW's, or really any organization that believes they have 'all the answers'.

I have to agree with Prisca here. Not hiring someone based solely on their religion is just another form of prejudice. Maybe in other countries that behavior is tolerated but in America you will find your self facing legal action in short order.
One of the things I always hated about the Org. was the us vs. them mentality.

Is the bible inspired?
To some extent I think yes. I think of the Hebrew scriptures as being a great deal of myth mixed in with some history and some nationalistic propaganda. Another thing to remember is that we have lost the context that many of the bible books were written in and what we are really getting is different translators interpretations of what they believe the bible is saying.
Even with all the drawbacks the basic message of the bible comes through:
(1) God started the creation process
(2) Man became estranged from God
(3) We need Jesus in order to be reconciled
(4) And through Jesus we see how we a supposed to act towards others
Reading this back to myself I realize this makes me sound much more 'religious' than I really am, however I do think the bible was inspired in a sense that it was written to convey a simply straight foward message, and it does accomplish that. I also realize that there may be many parts of the bible that are not 'inspired' but were simple additions by men.

me personally i think all religions started off with one mans interpatation of the bible and i'm not going there again.

Do I have respect for organized religion?
Yes, some of them. I have little respect for the bible thumpers, or the fundies. The more liberal churches though I have a great deal of respect for; they do a lot of good and help with social problems.
I don't feel you need to belong to any organization to get close to your creator or to lead a spiritual life if thats what you are looking for. Basically I think organized religions are just another group civic institutions and not a path to God.

I have no desire to join any organization just to 'study the bible'. However, sometimes I think about joining a very liberal and civic minded church. The reason for this is really quite simple; liberal churches focus on doing the things Jesus did, feeding the poor, housing the homeless, helping the sick, which are things that I would enjoy doing.
Basically if I joined another church it would be for social and societal reasons and have nothing to do with drawing closer to God.
