  What Should Be DONE about it!

  for a hypothetical place to start, let's assume it was an arab group in support of the palestinian movement.. this is however pure speculation as there is no proof whatsoever to indicate such.. lets begin by removing the idea of right and wrong, that is simply a subjective thing.

  each of us always thinks that ourselves and our country is right and the others are wrong.. is it wrong to kill 5 or 10 thousand people to repay for the lives of their own countrymen and to attempt to regain their own country back which was robbed from them?

  i personally think so, but that is my subjective opinion.. also, we have to remove from our minds the idea of 'civilian' vs 'military' target.

  I think we need to send a message. The terrorist that did this could have never accomplished it without the support of at least one country. They needed trained pilots, large aircraft are difficult to fly and hitting a building is difficult. They need a location for training their thugs and they need access to intel about their targets. Not only should the terrorist group be held responsible but also any country that helped them in any way; financially, technically, or intellectually.
  An attack of this magnitude is an act or war, to tolerate is appeasement, and from history we can see that appeasement only encourages bloodthirsty individuals. We need to let our military attack with every weapon (except NBC) and at every target. Including dams, communication infrastructure, power plants, financial centers, cities, airports, bridges, and food production. We need to attack until the offending country ceases to exist. Terrorist count on America to ‘turn the other cheek’ and doubt our resolve to shed blood. F*** them. We did not start this war but we need to finish it, not responding on a massive level will send a message that this kind of behavior will be tolerated.

  THIS IS NOT ABOUT JUSTICE………THIS IS ABOUT SETTING A PRECIDENT SO THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR WILL BE UNTHINKABLE FOR FUTURE TERRORIST.

  okay, i know (or want to believe) that not all jehovah's witnesses are this calloused.

  at least i hope not.

  there are some good, caring people, but here are some stark contrasts i've observed today that remind me of how glad i am that i'm not part of such an overall unloving group of people.

  I have read many terrific articles exposing the activities and feelings of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Articles by people like Shaun, JanH, and even that lovable Kent. But even with all their well researched and soundly thought out information the simple compare and contrast you have written sheds more light on the thinking of JW’s than they have. I wish everyone could read what you have posted.

  A glowing example of religion gone wrong

  last week was the first week of school and the temperature out here was blistering all week; well over 100 degrees for several days.

  during the first week of school several groups attempt to get new members for their respective cliques, and last week was church week.

  there are several christian groups on campus of the benign variety; mostly just concerned with social activities and the occasional charity event.

  Last week was the first week of school and the temperature out here was blistering all week; well over 100 degrees for several days. During the first week of school several groups attempt to get new members for their respective cliques, and last week was church week. There are several Christian groups on campus of the benign variety; mostly just concerned with social activities and the occasional charity event. As I walked past the several booths I noticed the activities they were all engaged in, frisbee, picnics, various fun and games. I also noticed they were all dressed appropriately for the weather, shorts and shirts. Male and female engaged in fun activities with each other.

  And then I saw the table, two middle-aged men sitting stiffly at a table wearing ties looking like the exact opposite of fun. Huge sign declaring ‘bible questions answered’. Yes, you guessed it Jehovah’s Witnesses back at it again. The thing that immediately sprang into my mind was the dichotomy between the other groups and JW’s. The other groups were more interested in individuals, fun, and social activities. Some of the other groups may have said one short prayer but the rest of the day was for fun and socialization, without judgement or heavy handed preaching. JW’s are only capable of the heavy-handed preaching part. Needless to say they attracted no one to their lonely table; the whole time just sitting their chatting with themselves looking like they are going to have a heat stroke with that little smile on their face. You know the one, the JW smile that they use when they are looking at people that they think are going to soon die by Gods hand.

  I wonder why they even come here, no one ever talks with them. A completely wasted ministry.

  on the cover is a bunch of mormomns and they stare at me as if to say bwahahahaha.. anyone read the article?

  it looks in favor of mormons and ignores the many signs of it being a cult.

  Good site Gweedo,

  I remember growing up catholic, for myself it was a very positive experience I was fortunate enough to go to a very liberal catholic school with a group of priest that were likewise moderate. As an adult I have often talked to other people that were raised catholic, did the private school thing, and will be amazed at the completely different feelings and perceptions they had from the organization. As we discuss our past invariable it comes out that the individuals catholic experience was dominated by a strict very conservative clergy; leading them to a much different and more negative experience.

  My point is this, most religions, outside of the high control groups, have a great deal of variation between different churches. This variation is true in Catholicism and is also true in Mormonism. I have no doubt that some Mormon ‘stakes’ border on cult-like behavior; likely dominated by some powerful local personalities. As a whole however I can assure you Mormons are very much different than JW’s.

  Hi ya Gweedo

  Well I can offer you my perspective on Mormonism that covers a number of friends and family in three different congregations.

  (1)
  They do seem to have a great desire to get married in the temple. Most of them don’t however and when they do get married in their church non-Mormon family members do attend.

  (2)
  They do donate 10%.

  (3)
  Some do not give up coffee, and a large portion drink tea and alcohol. It depends on how Mormon you want to be. A very good point to bring up is that the ones that do drink tea, beer, or coffee will not be shunned or punished.

  (4)
  A great deal of their spare time is taken up with church activities, they can however refuse them due to time constraints. Mormons will get counseling if needed, they, unlike JW elders, realize there is a time people need professional help.

  (5)
  They can and do contradict the local clergy, remember no punishment. The Mormons hold a much looser hold over their members than the JW clergy does.

  (6)
  The do refuse to read apostate material, some however will.

  (7)
  Mormons are encouraged to marry other Mormons, preferably in the ‘temple’, however marrying ‘out of the faith’ is common and does not carry the stigma that it does in JW land.

  (8)
  Mormons are a male dominated, which is changing slowly. At the moment however that is a valid criticism.

  (9)
  They do have some goofy holdovers from their early days, like secret ceremonies, etc, etc.

  (10)
  I know Mormons that have left the church and they were not shunned or abandoned by their friends.

  Another point to consider is that Mormon churches vary much more than kingdom halls. Jehovah’s witnesses have a very rigid and controlled society; Mormons on the other hand are much looser. As a consequence there exist a great deal of difference between Mormon churches in Utah and California. It is possible, maybe even probable, that Mormon churches in Utah resemble much more closely the traditional ‘cult’ where the California Mormons are more mainstream.

  Hello All,

  I have a unique perspective towards the Mormons for 2 reasons; (1) I grew up in a town that is predominately Mormon and (2) my sister and her entire family are Mormons. Coupled with the fact that I was briefly a JW, I feel I can offer a valid comparison of the two organizations.

  Is the organization a cult?

  No. I don’t feel that Mormonism is a cult for one major reason, lack of organized punishment. Jehovah’s witnesses use excommunication to control the rank and file; Mormonism on the other hand makes no attempt to punish individuals that do not toe the line. What this creates is a less oppressive environment, Mormons can have their own opinions, get an education, have friends that are non-mormons, watch rated R movies, disagree with their bishops without fear of being shunned by their own families.

  Mormons are a little extreme, especially the closer you get to Utah. Mormons are slightly racist, especially the older Mormons. Mormons are not a cult.

  In my opinion, looking into my crystal ball, Mormonism is today where Jehovah’s Witnesses will be in 30 years. Goofy looking, embarrassed of the skeletons in the closet, but attempting to become a mainstream religion.

  Double Standards - Where is the line drawn?

  i was happy when the yadrif was given the boot - we never needed the spread of hatred and name calling.

  it seemed as though everyone felt the same way.. i find it hypocritical that as long as you are "influential in the xjw community" or if you run a big anti-jw website you can call anyone names and you can post any obscene drivel as long as it is a song which you dedicate other posters.. i find it ironic that a "well-respected" poster (and i could give a damn what his past actions or brave deeds are, or what fancy essays he wrote) would call me a biggot in chat for asking simple questions but then he would defend the stuff kent wrote in reference to aguest.

  i don't give a damn if it was written by frank zappa or some other crack-smokin' loser - the fact that they are song lyrics is irrelevant.

  No, not kindergarten. I had to use the kindergarten explanation to people who are either refusing or incapable of understanding. Jan your semantics are unimpressive, it was a simplification of the behavior on this board; if you don’t see meaning in it I don’t know what to tell you. It’s a double standard pure and simple; I am not even going to argue with you about it because if you don’t see it you are refusing to see it.
