  No counter strike? How else would you punish them?

  for those of who don't care for a counter strike or killing those who committed this horrendous crime - how would you go about stopping terrorisim and punish the wrongdoers if you were president?.

  this great cause may I assume you enlisted this week.
  You are going to but your money were your mouth is right.
  I mean your life on the line for your cause

  Did you watch the news this week? I don’t have to enlist to be on the front lines, I am on the front lines every time I go to the ticket counter at American Airlines. I am on the front lines each time I use mass transit. I am on the front lines each time I go to see Americas land marks. No, in this war enlisting is not a necessity for finding the front lines.
  

  I guess killing defenseless men, women and childern
  is an adult compromise you are willing to live with oh as long
  as their Jappanesse-Budhist-Hindu-Arab or Muslim.

  We have killed lots of Christians in wars, just ask the Germans.

  Those are your only two points worth responding to; the rest of your post was just a series of emotions strung sloppily together by someone that missed their medication.

  And I am still waiting for you to reply to my post here are the questions:

  [1] What would the world be like if America had not opposed Stalinist Russia?
  [2] If Bin Laden is only attacking us because of our support of dictators why is he attacking other Islamic states like Jordan and Saudi Arabia?
  [3] Does not World War II prove that sometimes war is necessary and (although horrible in execution) the outcome makes the world a better place?

  Your simplistic views are simply sad, if you were 10 it would be understandable.

  you know, as much as i was horrified and felt sick to the gut by the wtc disaster (i must have watched that plane crash into the wtc about fifty times).

  there are other things going on in the world that largely go unreported by comparison but constitute just as much suffering(if not more) as the wtc disaster.. one of the questions i've asked myself is why is the u.s. so hated by certain arab groups.

  That last post was the cowards way out. If you had the guts to bring up these issues then you should have the guts to defend them. Read my post and answer my questions. I’ll be bringing this up to the top until I get a response.

  Crossroads,

  Some points for you to consider. The USA has given money to almost everybody, sometimes its helps the situation and sometimes not. I suggest you read up on the marshal plan for a time when an economic package helped. But then that would involve forming an informed opinion.

  As far as funding repressive regimes, yes you are correct we have done that. The reason why was we were in a cold war with the soviet union, we perceived (correctly) that they were a greater threat so sometimes we had to go with the allies available and not the ones of our choosing. Once again I ask you what were the alternatives? Should America have isolated itself? What would the world be like now if we had done that? I’ll tell you the whole of Europe would have been dominated by Stalin style communism.

  America reaping what is has sowed. Once again another dumbass comments without any facts to back up their position. Bin Laden is attacking America because he feels we are infidels, in order to not deserve his attacks we would all have to convert and start living under the totalitarian Islamic law of the Taliban. Bin Laden has also used suicide bombers in Afghanistan (against other Muslims) and other Islamic states like Saudi Arabia. He has also said that Jordan and Saudi Arabia must be destroyed, what did these countries do to earn his hatred. He is not attacking America because he wants us to do something or stop something else; he is attacking America because he feels our free way of life is apostasy.

  Idiots. Only children expect perfect justice in the world, adults realize sometimes you must make compromises for the greater good.

  MrMoe,

  You probably will not get a reply from any of them because there is none. I noticed a lot of people criticizing the urge and will to take action but I have not seen one valid proposal of what to in its place.

  Reading Fedoja’s post I keep hearing the voice of Maude Flanders (Simpsons) in my head saying ‘think about the children’. Her post are just one long appeal to emotion.

  it is also likely that the us is going to launch an all out offensive in the next 24-48 hrs.

  I have seen many employ this line of ‘reasoning’, crossroads and fedjora or two that spring to mind immediately.

  This is why it is flawed: The US does have some homegrown terrorist, and the US is doing everything in its power to stop them. That’s the difference between the US, GB, Germany and Afghanistan. Afghanistan is providing bases, logistics support and intelligence to these individuals, which makes them accomplices.

  As far as previous CIA support of Bin Laden, or my favorite line ‘The CIA trained him to do this’. Once again I see people employing a half-truth in an attempt to prove their point. The CIA did train Bin Laden, specifically they trained him to fight a guerilla war, and they also armed him with Machine guns and stinger missiles. They never trained in terrorist activities or supported him in expanding attacks into Russia.

  Your lack of logic is simply amazing. Saddam Hussein still has enough money to spend on his million man plus army yet you blame America because his nation starves to death. Really who has the responsibility to feed Iraq, Bush or Hussein. Listen carefully it is not America’s responsibility to take care of all these other nations, now this is true more than ever. Any way where do you think S. Hussein would spend his extra revenue if the economic sanctions were lifted? Do you think the man that used poison gas on his own people would begin feeding the children or do you think it is more likely he would use the increase revenue to get his own NBC programs back on course.

  I agree with bboyneko here. What’s is our other options? Allow Hussein to build weapons of mass destruction. The reality of the world is that some times hard decisions must be made for a better and more secure world. Think WWII for and example. I am not happy that those people are dying but I don’t have much respect for that ‘America – bad’ black and white thinking of the policies critics.

  An editor at the NY Post is calling for the CIA chief to resign. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the next few weeks but I am willing to bet a lot of money the CIA will be completely reorganized.

  While trying to understand how this could happen I started to think about the CIA. What is the purpose of the CIA? The whole American intelligence organization is not designed to detect the kind of terrorist attack we just suffered. The CIA was basically formed to keep an eye on the WARSAW pact. As such we relied on satellites and reconnaissance planes that will give you pictures and warnings the minute any troops are deployed or mobilized. The CIA has felt that Human Intel was not necessary and was much less reliable than electronic intel. I see the new CIA being much different, almost designed along the lines of the KGB.

  I am no expert, I admit that readily, but there are two reasons I can see for these attacks not being prevented.

  (1) Information overload – The CIA does trap all electronic comm signals worldwide. And undoubtedly evidence for this attack is stored somewhere in the DATA. But for data to become useful information it must be processed. Basically the CIA is not good enough at telling credible and non credible threats, they need to develop better data processes and couple that with actual human intel (something America has always been terrible at).

  (2) It also seems that the different Government agencies are not sharing information and working together. There needs to be a much more coordinated effort between the CIA / FBI / INS / and Military. This also needs to be coupled with greater teamwork and information pooling between nations.

  I don’t think the American government felt something like this could not happen. They take terrorism very seriously, I think we were just ill equip to deal with the situation.
