I saw two JW’s I know quite well the other day and I started to think. They are both men in their mid 40’s, both look like they are pushing 55. Both are single, dirt poor and unskilled, although one is going to marry soon. The first man, who works as a landscaper, was a good mechanic but never got the technical training necessary so is in essence unskilled labor. The second individual was smart but never went to college, he and his life is a complete wreck. He works odd jobs in places like video stores and the such, last time I talked to him he was going back to school to study journalism and had a kind of miserable look to him. To me I see both these men as victims of the JW organization. The organization set itself up as an authority on matters of finance, medicine, and many other things. While it was positioning itself as an authority on all matters, it gave bad and sometimes contradictory advice; advice that led people to disrupt and sometimes destroy their lives, like my two acquaintances above. If a person ask a medical professional (RN or Doctor) on the street about some condition they are having usually the medical professional will tell the person to make an appointment. This is not because DR’s and nurses do not want to help people it is because medical professionals are considered authorities and if they give, bad advice can be sued so to protect themselves they are very careful before giving medical advice. The same holds true for financial analyst; if their advice is so bad as to be deemed negligent they can be sued for financial damages. The question is this; considering the WTBS set itself up as an authority can the WTBS be sued for the horrible ‘advice / commandments’ they have given over the decades on matters of education, finances, and health? I don’t know the answer but I would like to see what others think. Terry

Some members on Congress are thinking of moving our troops out of Germany and placing an import tax on french water and wine.
I agree with both. The link is below.

France's history of military failure
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------The military history of France:
Gallic Wars Lost. In a war whose ending foreshadows the next 2,000 years of French history, France is conquered by, of all things, an Italian.
Hundred Years War Mostly lost, saved at last by a female schizophrenic who inadvertently creates The First Rule of French Warfare: "France's armies are victorious only when not led by a Frenchman."
Italian Wars Lost. France becomes the first and only country to ever lose two wars when fighting Italians. Wars of Religion France goes 0-5-4 against the Huguenots
Thirty Years War France is technically not a participant, but manages to get invaded anyway. Claims a tie on the basis that eventually the other participants started ignoring her.
War of Devolution Tied. Frenchmen take to wearing red flowerpots as chapeaux.
The Dutch War Tied.
War of the Augsburg League / King William's War / French and Indian War Lost, but claimed as a tie. Three ties in a row induces deluded Francophiles the world over to label the period as the height of French military power.
War of the Spanish Succession Lost. The war also gave the French their first taste of a Marlborough, which they have loved every since.
American Revolution In a move that will become quite familiar to future Americans, France claims a win even though the English colonists saw far more action. This is later known as "de Gaulle Syndrome," and leads to the Second Rule of French Warfare: "France only wins when America does most of the fighting."
French Revolution Won, primarily due the fact that the opponent was also French.
The Napoleonic Wars Lost. Temporary victories (remember the First Rule!) due to leadership of a Corsican, who ended up being no match for a British footwear designer.
The Franco-Prussian War Lost. Germany first plays the role of drunk frat boy to France's ugly girl home alone on a Saturday night.
World War I Tied and on the way to losing, France is saved by the United States. Thousands of French women find out what it's like to not only sleep with a winner, but one who doesn't call her "Fraulein." Sadly, widespread use of condoms by American forces forestalls any improvement in the French bloodline.
World War II Lost. Conquered French liberated by the United States and Britain just as they finish learning the Horst Wessel song.
War in Indochina Lost. French forces plead sickness, take to bed with the Dien Bien Flu.
Algerian Rebellion Lost. Loss marks the first defeat of a Western army by a Non-Turkic Muslim force since the Crusades, and produces the First Rule of Muslim Warfare: "We can always beat the French." This rule is identical to the First Rules of the Italians, Russians, Germans, English, Dutch, Spanish, Vietnamese and Esquimaux.
War on Terrorism France, keeping in mind its recent history, surrenders to Germans and Muslims just to be safe. Attempts to surrender to Vietnamese ambassador fail after he takes refuge in a McDonald's.
The question for any country silly enough to count on the French should not be "Can we count on the French?" but, rather, "How long until France collapses?"

Need some info on Pistols
by jelly ini am thinking of getting a pistol and i am not sure of what kind to get.
i went to an indoor range today and tried out a glock .45 (the smaller model) and a heavier .45. i found the glock rested well in my hand but i could shoot much more accurately with the heavier (and longer barreled) pistol.
any way, i am looking for a home protection / target practice pistol and would like any input on what caliber to get.

David_10,
The diet is actually going extremely well, it has been over a week and I have not eaten at fast food once. I need to work on getting more exercise though.GUN STUFF
I agree with what most of you say about shotguns being better for home protection. I do not know much about pistols but I was raised around hunting rifles and shotguns, although I do not have any now. One side argument however is that I would not use 10-shot (that is a dove load). One time when I was much younger a friend and me were hunting pheasants, he accidentally brought up the wrong shells (he grabbed 10 loads) and was forced to hunt with them. I saw him shoot a pheasant at 10 yards with a 10 load and the bird was able to fly about 100 feet away. If I have to shoot someone, I want him to go down immediately not 2 minutes later. The main reason I do not want to get a shotgun however is that I also like to target shoot, I used to do it all the time with rifles, and now I want to start again with pistols.I am not worried about concealing the pistol so size does not matter, what I am looking for is a good target, home protection combination. The kick of the a heavy .45 does not bother me, I had a lot of trouble shooting the small .45 glock thought, I tended to shoot low (anticipating the kick I think). I will try the .40 in the coming weeks.
REVOLVERS
Its my understanding that revolvers have a harder kick than the automatics, is this true. And if so are there any other drawbacks to a revolver pistol?Terry (Male, would only kill someone if they were trying to kill me, but I would kill them)

The 45 caliper has expensive ammo for target shooting but the best stopping power, at least thats what I was told. Next week I am going to try shooting a heavier glock .45 as well as a .40 cal. pistol to see how that feels. Does anyone have any input on the 9mm. People say that they dont have enough stopping power but are real easy to shoot and good for target shooting. I have trouble imagining anyone getting shot with a 9mm still being much of a problem but I might be wrong.
Any suggestions would be welcome.

What if the US loses?
by Robdar inwhat if we lose the war with iraq?
i watch the news and all commentators act as if our winning is a given.
yes, we are the biggest, baddest nation; we have the nukes, but what if?
-
jelly
To respond to Rodbars question; if in the highly unlikely event France and Germany side with Iraq in this war we still wouldnt lose. Compared to Americas armies b oth of their armies are smaller, not as well equipped or trained, their air forces and navies couldnt stand up to Americas for more than a day.
There are countries that America could not easily overthrow (China for example), but there are no countries that could come close to overthrowing America either. Also no county in existence today that could begin to encroach on America's dominance of the Sea, and Air.
It would be very unlikely that could lose this war.

Would you ban the Witnesses?
by Joker10 inif it were up to you, would you ban the jw's?
would you go that far?

I would not ban them; really, I do not see a reason. I think witnesses are off but so are a lot of groups and once you start the censorship ball rolling its hard to tell where it will stop.
What I would do is:
- Tax them at the same rate as other businesses and religions
- Not allow them to refuse medical service for minors

In our congregation we did not have many welfare pioneers what we did have was a similar type of creature however. In Gridley, there was a group of young pioneers that lived with and worked for their parents. These child pioneers had no bills, worked a fifteen-hour workweek, and were paid well by their parents giving them ample on hand cash. This young group of individuals acted as though they were the most holy people on earth, personally I think it is easier to drive around the neighborhood 3 hrs a day, and work 3 hrs a day than to completely support yourself, basically their parents were making the sacrifice they were reaping the benefits.
Some pioneers do make large life sacrifices but they are the minority. For the most part, I was never impressed with pioneers they all were either self righteous, bums, or simply looking for a mate. I also wonder when they hit 35 years old how many of them wish they could do it all differently.Terry
