My favorite varies with time; I rarely pick the same candy twice. My most frequent selection however would have to be reese’s peanut butter cups or butter fingers.

since we have so many right-leaning politically speaking posters, i was wondering what comments they might be willing to offer up on this column i caught this morning.. http://www.observer.com/pages/conason.asp.
i am sure most of those who are quick to criticize anything that even remotely relates to clinton are all whitewater experts by now.
i would enjoy reading what thoughts you may have on the parallels and even how enron makes whitewater look like a trip to the penny candy store.. hoping some conservative can help me feel less screwed by my republican administration,.
Hello all,
I am not sure what teejay’s comment was but I will add some to this debate.
It appears that Enron execs did indeed ‘cook the books’ in an attempt to hide the financial state of the company primarily to sell off their stock before the crash. In this case the accountants and managers in charge will be, and should be, tried for fraud.
The Bush connection is basically non-existant. Enron did donate to both republicans and democrats however when Enron went to the government looking for a bailout both parties balked and left them in their lurch. A case for corruption or favoritism would be stronger if Bush or the republicans actually did anything to help Enron out.

how do you feel about the killing of people in war ?especially those who do not share you ideals and there fore may encroach on your rights if they had authority over you?.
most of us having been witnesses would have justified opposers of god dying at armageddon because we believed they if left alive would ruin life for everyone else.. so if a political party or another nation gained power other you country that acted contrary to your beliefs to such a degree you though they would ruin or life or life style would you kill them in war?
War is legalized killing not murder; they are two separate words. Anyway some countries attempt to fight wars in a way that minimizes the unavoidable civilian deaths; America is a very good example.
Anyway I would agree that war is horrible and should be avoided whenever possible the real question is when is war avoidable? And what would the consequences be if way is avoided?
Was it moral for Neville Chamberlain to attempt to appease Hitler to buy a temporary peace? Was it immoral for Assad of Syria to destroy Hama killing thousands of innocents to attempt to avert a long and deadlier civil war?
Life is complicated and I don’t believe black and white exists anymore.

Here is what I gave:
My Mom got two books from me; chicken soup for the soul I and II. My step-dad I gave a replica of a classic car (he collects them). I gave my sister Edith Wilson’s biography. For my niece I got a chess set and a book on chess, I also started showing her how to play. For my oldest nephew I got a book on Dragon Ball Z and a large book on the history of American comics. My middle nephew received some legos and a pokemon set that allows you to make pokemon stickers, he was in heaven. My youngest nephew got from me a T-Ball set and some toy cars.
What I got:
A cool new watch, a few gift certificates, a jacket, clothes, a steelers hat (cool), and a book on the history of the mideast.
What I liked best:
Showing my niece how to play chess, I think she could be very good. Playing frogger with my nephews they are funny little guys. And finally getting to spend some time with my oldest nephew he is 15 and starting to have some difficulties in life. Being able to enjoy a holiday with my family without feeling guilty.

Ok, this thread was about a forest that exist in northern California so if you want to save this forest you can use California law, that’s why I brought it up. Actually everything in this thread seemed to be directed at America by you, you then started to lose the argument so you changed the frame.

Ah yes, the old I can get the laws I want so I will attack the process. How unexpected.
Strange here in California I seem to remember we have a law process that can come directly from the people. Get enough signatures and then the law will be put on the ballot, if enough people vote for you proposition then we have a new law.
So go for it, if you think you really have enough votes and the people are being ignored start you ballot drive. I eagerly await your results. Undoubtedly if the masses are being so ignored and neglected by the ‘caps’ they will jump in line to sign your ballot.

American corporate terrorism that destroyed native American culture.
LOL
Here is the difference between terrorism and corporations.
Terrorism will not use law to further their means they use terrorism, terrorist plant bombs and kill civilians in an attempt to force their will on other people.
Corporations use laws. Corporations have a lot of money and influence true, but they do use laws.
If you don’t like the way corporations are conducting business you should organize and change the laws through the democratic process. What I have found with many of the radical groups (religious, environmental, racial they are all the same really) is that they realize that most people do not agree with their agenda so they have to resort to other means. Like planting steel spikes in trees so loggers will lose their hands, or burning government horse corrals.
Eco terrorist just another group of closet Nazis trying to enforce their own ‘enlightened’ view on the ‘ignorant’ masses.
Solution:
The only real solution to the Ecology issue would be to look at both the short and long term.
We should offer tax credits to companies that 1. Use alternative energy 2. Have green buildings and 3. Donate to environmental cleanups of polluted sites. We should also invest some of our money into RD for alternative energy sources (Solar, Wind, and Fuel Cells for cars). We should offer tax credits for people that purchase duel power vehicles, you know electric and fossil fuel. Those vehicles exist now but they are too expensive. We should also drill for oil in Alaska and off the coast to ease our dependence of foreign oil. Basically we should give industry a financial incentive to run cleaner, at the same time we should make duel power vehicles affordable for most Americans and look for new cleaner sources of energy.

a us vs afghani scorecard to date.

Personally I think the war is going great. We did not start this war and we do not target civilians; that is one of the major distinctions between them and us. Civilians die in war, its unavoidable that’s why war is a terrible thing; once again I have to ask what the alternative is; there is none. Every county on this planet has the right to defend itself and so do we. I personally believe that many people in the world like it when Americans die just because we are the most powerful nation at this moment and no matter who is doing the killing and why these people will never support America. I have very little respect for these people who can only see things through their own prejudices.

As a Clinton supporter and an individual that votes republican on occasion I must tell you that you are mistaken about the Dems and freedom of speech. The Democratic (left) is no better at tolerating opposing viewpoints than the Republicans (right). Both sides throw labels at people to attempt to silence them; the left will call people racist, rednecks, and biblethumbers anything to pull the focus away from the argument. The Right does the same thing the words they use will tend to be communist tax and spend democrats, etc, etc.
