From an organizational POV, shunning is a brilliant strategy since it creates a fear (of losing one's only social connection and loved ones, even losing one's very salvation and eternal life) that serves as an incentive to keep sheep in the flock and it removes incentive for the remaining sheep to use their critical thinking skills.

Trying to find an opportunity to discuss the TTATT with my Father.
by joe134cd injust recently i've been thinking about trying to talk about ttatt to my father.
i'm just trying to find an opportunity.
i know he will never leave it - or i would be surprised if he did.

It's also worth mentioning that in the first edition of Combating Mind Control Jehovah's Witnesses were not mentioned in the book at all so it was not banned by the Watchtower Society and Hassan notes (in the much more recent Kindle edition that I read) that many JWs ended up reading it and leaving because they recognized the signs. If you can find an old copy from the 80s without the references to JWs maybe pass it on to your dad to read for himself.

In the book Combating Cult Mind Control Steve Hassan recommends not addressing a cult member's specific religion but discussing another cult that uses the same techniques. You could wait until there's something relevant in the news about a cult or church scandal and say something along the lines of "I read about that group do you know they justified this by doing that? What do you think?" and see if he starts to identify on his own the similarities between the WTO and whatever group is in the news.

Are JWs trying to make dysfunctional kids and destroy their ability to live normal lives?
by C0ntr013r inare jws trying to make dysfunctional kids that wont "fit" in normal society so they will "return to jehovah"?
because there have been many stories about young people who have been out in the world only to find how bad it was and how correct the org was.. a good jw kid with "good" jw parents will have many big issues, some examples:.
fear of demons (fear, misfit).

JW kids don't stand a chance unless they recognize how much and exactly what is wrong with their culture and upbringing and make conscious changes to how they function in the real world; just so they can function in the real world. IMHO that's by design and not accident. Screwing up lives does nothing but benefit the WTO.
You can live in this world without thinking of the future, without planning, but odds are you will never live well.
