i've seen a few threads/posts where some of y'all have heard from jw contacts and how they've stepped up their 'the end is close' rhetoric because of the earthquake/tsunami in japan.

i usually take those things with a grain of salt.

there's always some jw whose cheese has slipped that reads prophecy into every little thing that happens.

Its cult life.

Everything is wrapped up in their biblical Armageddon and their WT designed new order.

They didn't invest in this life, whether it be career, hobbies or education.

They boarded the WT train, and most are going to ride it wherever it takes them. That train takes them to the grave eventually, but the scenery they enjoy along the way is filled with windowless kingdom halls, or empty neighborhoods as they drive around the territory in their four door cars. Every once and a while something really bad in the world happens, and they think the train is finally pulling into the station...but it keeps chugging along to nowhere.

This too, shall pass.

do the governing body members or some higher-ups behind the curtain of the wizard really know they are running a scam of a dangerous mind-control cult?

They are delusional. In fact, I think they actually suffer from delusional disorder

One of the subsets is grandiose delusion. For me, it explains it better than anything else I have come across. I think guys that operate more on there own like Benny Hinn know its a scam and do it for the money and lifestyle. I think the GB and the Mormons are more in line with the delusional disorder.

well this past weekend was pretty much as predicted, the demonstrations were probably the worst i have ever seen.

you know the ones i mentioned on a post last week where in the middle the participant has a sudden epiphany!

here is a sampling of just a few.. .

Holy crap! Are they serious with this? What do they want, a bunch of robotic clones walking around with tracts in their front pocket to hand out everywhere they go? Don't they realize that looking and acting like this makes the public uncomfortable? People just want to get away from weirdos, not join their religion!

as you may have heard if you attended recently, social networking is of the devil and many have been 'lead astray' by website supposedly set up for jw.

whatever, you heard it before about rock, hard rock, hip hop, rap, gangsta rap, tv, werewolves .... anyway you may have heard of the recent elder school where basically there were the proverbial tongue lashings about not having social networking sites.

here is the skinny on recent developments:.

Elders, servants and pioneers (anyone with a position of some sorts) are not ALLOWED to have SN pages. They will be removed if they have public pages. It has actually become one of the questions before you are accepted into any of these positions (besides: are you a child molester)

- The WTBTS has provided certain 'brothers' access to a commercial social networking tracking service. This might not be in your congregation but most definitely in your area or circuit, there have been instructions to scan private profiles for people with current positions and will probably be extended later. The tracking service (which aggregates data usually for use in targeted ads etc.) does not necessarily give access to full private profiles but does most of the times to pictures and lifestyle choices (religion, race, gender, sexuality). Games like FarmVille etc. frequently have access to full profiles. There have been already a slew of DF's and reproves of people (mostly pioneers and elders) that identify as homosexual, posted pics of 'worldly' parties, have 'immoral' relationships or affairs etc.

Yeah, right again. What are you going to tell us next, that the WT is building a secret bunker in upstate NY, and your name is Johnny?

i'm a never baptized, raised in ex-jw who is, shall we say, outspoken against the jws.

when i first left, i told my relatives that i thought the jws were full of crap.

i tried to show them everything.

this always really, really pissed me off when i was a jw.. they actually had the audacity to claim that the god who created the universe was somehow involved in the increase of 'kingdom interests' - property in flourishing lands.. now, as i see it, the world has really suffered since the wts started out in it's seedy americanisation of what religion should be:.

wwiwwiithe untold suffering of the holocausteuropean civil warsthe list goes on.............yet, i was told that jehovah god was furthering & advancing the watchtower bible & tract societys 'talents.'.

this generally involved the building/expansion of wts property.. so, let me get this straight; god was getting all excited about his people expanding the property/printing presses of a corporate organisation, while turning a blind eye to the holocaust, paedophilia, warfare, tsunamis/earthquakes.. not the god i would want to worship personally.. yet it shows just how much the jw's have their heads firmly implanted right up their own arses.. do me a favour.. if god exsisted or was interested in humanity, there are bigger matters for him to deal with than the expansion of the wts.. .

Good Point! Never thought about it like that.

Kind of like how the JWs get all excited that 800 people a day get baptized on average, while about 200,000 are born. So witnesses are saying Jehovah is so patient because he has to kill an extra 199,000 for every extra day that goes by.

Personally, I'm a lot more worried about what you describe than any sort of intervention by some skydaddy.

I've prepared myself a bit by diversifying retirement accounts into foreign companies and a little gold and silver. I really don't know what else I can do to prepare for something like you describe.

What happened to the rest of humanity?

Well no worries for them. Its actually better for them to die now so they can get a second chance after the big A.

But back to the OP, it is pretty sickening. Any gloom and doom for humanity means they are happy. They are going to have one heck of an April with their aux pioneer program. Hopefully some crazy nooo lite comes down the pipe for the DCs so us "apostates" will have some new ammo to use this summer.

Up-to-date numbers of JWs and DF ones?

just curious if anyone has up to date numbers of worldwide active jws?

are there more that have left than are currently in?

they bang on about growth in numbers, but after reading the wtbs numbers heading towards 8 million, other threads have suggested its more like just over 7 million.. also being a newbie, and isolated due to illness, can anyone tell me about china and the work thats not happening.

I think the latest peak publisher count is 7.5 million, average publisher is 7.2 million or so.

Baptized is around 300k per year, but with a 1% DF rate and a 1% Death rate that takes away 150k each year alone. Add to that the "faders" and this religion is just becoming one big revolving door. I think a slow decline overall will start within 5 years.
