For over 130 years, this journal, the Watchtower, has provided sound direction in matters such as dress and grooming, chess, video games, education, medical care, family happiness, the proper view of sexuality, the need to be "no part of the world", the need to recognize the "superior authorities" as Jehovah God and Jesus Christ, then the need to recognize "the superior authorities" as the human governments, as well as the need to keep on the watch for the end of this system of things, the resurrection of anointed ones and ancient worthies, and the end of Babylon the Great in the years 1874, 1878, 1914, 1918, 1920, 1925, 1975, within the generation of those who saw 1914, the generation of wicked ones who happen to observe the sign of Christ's presence, and within the generation of anointed ones whose lives overlap with the generation of anointed ones who saw the events of 1914. Are we not grateful to Jehovah that such 'food at the proper time' has been consistently provided by the slave class? (Matt. 24:45-47)

Most pathetic Special Needs Talk

remember all the stupid special needs talks?

i remember one that was about a kid picking up a $5 bill outside of the kingdom hall.

he looked around to see if anyone around him lost it, and when no one did, he decided to keep it.

Local needs parts are another control tool. In fact it really is one of the ultimate tools used to tell people activity they should be participating in for the advancement of the book publishing company. Whatever fun activities the R&F might be having at any given time can be squelched and the sheep can be beaten back into giving up more of their time, money, etc....

Were there any Disfellowshippings during Bible/Ancient times?

is there a recorded df'ing in the bible?.

Were there any JC's in bible times? (Held in private without any witnesses, at least in Israel they were at the public gate)

Was there DF/DA (Employees quitting or getting fired)

Was there any public/private reproof? (Writing up the employees)

Was there "re-instatement"? (Re-hiring the employee)

Was there any loss of privileges? (putting the employee on probation)

Was there a "flock book"? (Policy and procedure manual)

Were there CBOE's? (Lower lever management)

Were there CO's? (Middle management)

Were there DO's? (Upper management)

Was there a Governing Body? (the CEO)

Looks more like a 21st century corporation rather than the 1st century Christian congregation.

BTW, your original question asked when did it all start...I believe the actual DF procedure was started in 1952.

If you are talking about pre-Christian, no need to DF in Israel, they just killed off the sinners. Saves everyone some time.

One hundred eleven assemblies

my dad visited recently and somehow we got on the subject of assemblies.

he's been in the truth 37 years and figured he'd been to 3 assemblies a year.

that meant he had been to 111 assemblies in his life!

Even today with one three day, one two day, and the Special day, that is six days a year.

Multiply by 30 years and thats 180 days. Half a year of my life gone!

I dont even want to do the math on meetings.....

"Letting Spiritual Light Shine Online" - Watcthower.org gets 70,000 hits a day!

i am reading the new 2010 yearbook at the moment.

on page 13 it says www.watchtower.org gets 70,000 hits a day, and that 24 million people visited the web site last year, a 33% increase since 2007. .

simon, how does that compare with this site?

Well, visitors and pageviews are two different things. Which are they talking about? They might have 25,000 visitors a day with an average of three pageviews, which would put them in the 70,000 a day range for page loads. Or they might have 70k visitors a day.

If it is truly 70k visitors, that could simply be achieved by 1 out of 100 JW's visiting the official site on any given day. Not so significant if you look at it that way. That would mean each active JW visiting the site three times a year. I'm sure most with internet access visit more than that. Any way you slice it, the world at large isn't busting the WT server.

If you do go the DA route, make it short, simple and to the point of exactly why you absolutely cannot stay a witness. Here are two examples that you can add a little more if you want:

To Whom it may concern:

In the interest of making the truth my own, I have reviewed the record of the what the Watchtower teaches about the "faithful and discreet slave" After much prayer and consideration, the historical record of the Watchtower proves beyond any doubt that it is NOT the faithful slave mentioned in the book of Matthew. This slave was to provide "food at the proper time" and the Watchtowers record of false prophecy about the years of 1914, 1925, 1975, and "this generation" undeniably shows it has not been dispensing such food. Thus, I no longer wish to be known as a Jehovahs' Witness.

In the interest of following the bible and Christ Jesus, I have been doing intense research on 1 Timothy 2:5,6. This scripture plainly states that Christ Jesus is the one mediator for all men. I was quite upset to learn that the Watchtower teaches differently, and that only a select few can claim Jesus as their personal mediator. After much prayer and meditation on this scripture I have concluded I must follow the Bible rather than man's teaching, and do hereby disassociate myself from the Watchtower.

JW's and non-JW's

Think about the conversations they have about a "worldly." Oh he is so nice, kind, etc. Takes an interest in me, BUT (sigh) he is "in the world" "not a witness" "doesnt serve Jehovah" "is a Catholic/Born again/Lutheran/Baptist/Christian"

Then what's really the kicker is they sometimes say something admirable about this person's faith! So lets get this right, this is a good person according to everything you see and know about them, they have strong faith in God, or they just happen to be an outstanding human, but because they don't believe in petting animals for eternity they are doomed to destruction.

Of course, for some its easier to have their thinking done for them rather than making the decisions for themselves. So simple to slap a label on them. Us/Them. Worldly/JW. Good association/bad association (the default for every non/JW)
