on reading this thread (http://www2.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/211600/1/society-doesnt-follow-its-own-advice-aug-15-2011-wt-internet-eve), i could but think of how much i had to thank the governing body for.. they claim that these days, thanks to the internet, anyone can pretend to be "in the know" and become a "desktop professor".

and they encourage everyone to distrust what they find over the internet.. dear governing body, i did follow your advice this one time.

as a worldly, i had no clue, and for some time had to check what apostates and opposers were saying about the slave.

Good for you dgp, the great thing about bigger cults like JWs and Mormons is that their record is now out there for everyone to see. Both their own record from what they have printed and a critical analysis of their work by outsiders and yes *gasp* former members.

Its a matter of time now. It will probably take a few more "generations" (yes, actual generations, not WT defined) before the JWs shrink significantly. But as long as these inept leaders continue on their warpath of "obey or die" without offering anything of real benefit by being part of their religion I see no way they grow beyond the 8 million or so they have right now.

Unrest in the Governing Body

one of the many questions that i am asked is what are the current gb members like, who are the hardliners and who are more moderate.. because of my previous job, at a european bethel, i had dealings with most of them with the exception of sam herd.. these are my observations of my conversations with them and how others who had dealings with them.. other ex bethelites may have contrary views to mine, but i would be surprised.. i had spent a lot of time with splane, lett and morris.

hardliners.

david splane, without doubt the one who commands the most respect and attention.

The real problem with how the WT is constructed at the top now is that there is no real leader. The management by committee has insured that no one gets out of line.

Say a GB member "wakes up," what is he going to do? If he doesn't toe the line he will quickly find himself in the same situation as Ray Franz. They will show him the door. If he goes quietly, he might be able to serve out his years in some rural territory. I guess it all depends on how much of a threat the body feels the outcast really is, we all know how they treated Ray, a railroad job if there ever was one. The only way a GB member could leave is if he quietly wrote his expose' book and walked out the door. Even then, would he make enough off of the book to survive? I trust none of the current GB could hang wallpaper efficiently enough like poor Ed Dunlap when they gave him the heave ho.

With the Worldwide chuch of God, they were able to reform because the leader died and there was a power vacuum. That just won't happen in WT world.

most of us posters who are here at the moment cant have failed to notice philidephia ponos got a kicking, the guy had a legitamate point, re elders and ms who are still in and who post here.

what was his crime ?

he had the temerity to lable them as hypocrites, which they are.. later on jlp brought pps previous difficultys to light, a fact most posters here were probably ignorant off.. anyway that guy got such a shafting for telling the truth about what happens here, personally i think he should be applauded, because he demonstrated courage in the face of overwhelming adversity, which should help him with dealing with his difficultys in his work place, if he can cope with the adversities he has experienced here, he will have no problems in dealing with his (secular) workplace.. i have only been here for 8 weeks, and within that short timeframe i already see the group dynamics of our time at jwn unfold, i see alliances being forged, the subtle use of language and samantics as posters here seek advantage and seniority, and want to adopt common ground, to advance themselves as leaders and spokesman, this mirrors my 13 years of being a jw, it seems to me that ex elders and servants display the same characteristics, they employed as jw,s and expect them to work here, which they do.doesnt say a lot about jwn.. anyway a young guy, still learning the ropes, gets anhilated here its not much of a recomendation to post is it, ?.

Elders and MS who remian are hypochrites.Plain and simple

Most remain for a while in an effort to wake up at least their immediate family before leaving. How long should they wait? I know many who waited patiently for YEARS for their spouse/kids to wake up before attempting a fade. Their so called "status" allowed them to do this, if they had just up and left then they would lose their leverage. Every situation is different, and yes I would say a setting a time table and goals would be the right thing to do. But freeing a mind from cult control is much easier if you are an insider.

Disagree, what does a prominent role here pay? The same as being an elder, absolutely nothing! I would say most are simply here to help out those who came after them, just as many who came before them helped them out of the cult with the least possible damage.

So eruption, WTF do you want us to do when we are attacked? Sit there and take it? PP put his opinion out there on a public forum, and people disagreed, big deal.

Dude got capped because he called out elders on the board as hypocrites when there is no dignified way to get out of their position. That is a reflection on the b0rg, not the elder.

If the b0rg let people come and go with their dignity intact, they wouldn't have to be "hypocrites" in seeking advice from others on how to extracate themselves from this cult.

if you're a witness couple and you choose to have a child together, it means you think armageddon is not going to arrive for at least 9 more months.

and then you'll be nursing it for at least 6 months.. that's almost a year and a half.

if armageddon started within that time: woe to you!.

Deep, deep, deep, down, (I mean really deep) I would say 98% of JWs know Armageddon is never going to happen.

You may not EVER get one to admit it, but if you really, really, believed in the JW Armageddon you would probably never have children, along with many other changes.

"large but mainstream" brings what changes next?

in some other threads there has been talk of wether the organization will go large and mainstream or small and hard-core in the upcoming years.. in the past few years, the sunday public talk has been shortened, the bookstudy eliminated (at least as a seperate meeting night), #2 talks are down to a simple read-through, and a little longer ago pioneering hour requirements have been shortened.

personally i would take these as signs of them going more soft and keeping a larger membership.. if this is indeed the case, what would you suspect of being cut off or changed next?.
