i wasn't sure how this would be handled since the elders haven't harassed me as much as a lot of others have gotten, plus we live a ways outside of the territory so i figured there was a shot they'd leave me alone since it's inconvenient.

I'll go ahead and object to this premise. In the past, it may have been hard. Today, its just time consuming. As long as you are wiling to shove your family into the back seat and give a lot of your time to the cause of the WTS then you are elder material.
That's exactly why so many elders resign eventually, and the smart ones coming up in the ranks don't "reach out" for the silliness of being an elder. Its a title with the privilege of getting the scoop on all of the dirty laundry in the congo. Certainly nothing of great value deserving extra respect from the troops, and many are recognizing that and refusing to bow down and kissing the rings of the elders.

1. They are now called the CBOE, Coordinator of the Body of Elders. Because a Coordinator wouldn't Preside over others, right?
2. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Seriously, I've never heard of such a thing, in fact it continues to be a theme of "Listen, Obey, and be Blessed". They don't need or want suggestions from the underlings, because they know it all.
so last night we had some friends around for dinner, (not jw) & it was a really wonderful evening.

when you found out all the sins of fellow witnesses did it effect how you treated them?
it was shocking when i found out the range of bs these people did to each other.

I was only for a coupla years, probably not even two. Fortunately I never had to put on the hip waders, so to speak. Only a couple of straightforward JCs for me, and neither one dealt with sex which looking back makes me sigh in relief.
What I did see was the absolute weirdness of the other elders behind closed doors. Certain one had their pet peeves about individuals. Others about certain "sins", they would view someone as immediately worthy of DFing if they had a bias against what they did.
Then the self righteousness itself, gack. It woke me up though, might still be in there if I stayed a lowly MS.
