Speaking of that Facebook Satan, I just reconnected with my cousins who are ex-JW, and some other relatives, too. It is a great way for us exes to reconnect.

Funniest "guilty" thought
by NewChapter inin my jw daze, they were always warning that satan transformed himself into an angel of light, and he knows what to tempt you with, blah blah.
an elder that studied with my ex told him that satan can't read our minds, so if we don't act on certain impulses, he won't know what to tempt us with.
in other words, he explained, if you see a porn mag and pick it up, then satan will work with that.

When I left in 1990 I got lots of the sexier clothes. I think I had 3 or 4 bustiers back in the day to go with leggings or shorts and a jacket. For a while the dresses hung in the closet and then I guess I threw them out. I have a couple of dressier outfits these days but will be looking for some sexier clothes as my weight drops. SO far I have lost 40 pounds. Living in Florida, go for the cooler stuff. You should see my flip-flop collection!

What 'hooked' you... and what made you leave?
by s0rt3d ini wasn't born in.
i got hooked in as a teenager.
was going through a tough time, wondered why we exist, why god wasn't doing anything to solve man's problems, if there was a true religion and, hey-presto, a jw classmate showed up with book that not only asked the questions i was asking but answered them too!.

Didn't have a choice, parents, grandparents, etc. My mom was physically abused by my father as was my sister and myself. For some reason I didn't think it was right that the elders told my mom she had to stay with her disfellowshipped husband because even though he hit her, he hadn't cheated on her, so we were stuck. Too many other examples of women being treated as second class citizens. I just started to fade and then the elders visited, so I quit, disassocciated myself before I did anything to get disfellowshiped for. That was 20 years ago.

My mother always makes a point of telling me how it must be harder on those doing the shunning than those of us who are being shunned. Yeah, right.
I think with sites like this and the ways we have of locating each other these days, like facebook, shunning doesn't have the effects it used to. I have located quite a few family members who are DA or DF and we are planning on getting together. I go to Ex-JW group meetings about every other month and get together with people from there. Then there are all the "worldly" friends I now have that share my interests. Living without people who don't want to have anything to do with me, no problem.

what are the rewards for not being a witness any longer
by Curtains inif the carrot and stick aspect of being jehovahs witnesses upset you how do you reclaim your desire for reward?
i'm assumng that you all agree with me that feeling rewarded is a basic human desire.
how much effort do you think we should put into trying to make our lives rewarding?

Where should I start? Greek festival at a Greek Orthodox Church this month. I'm talking killer greek food. Able to talk to anyone I like, go with them to the movie I want to see without worrying about the rating. Christmas, New Year's, Halloween, Easter, Groundhog Day! I find ways to celebrate them all. Yeah, I'll be 46 this year but will only be celebrating for the 21st time. I'm a junior in college. I hope to make more money once I get my degree. Not so much for the materialistic things. But things like having money in the bank, not living paycheck to paycheck. Sunday mornings were made for amusement parks!

after 40 years I guess I am being shunned
by Giordano inwell thanks to this site i have come to realize i am being shunned........i think.
i find this really funny because my wife and i were never df or da, and we walked out in the late 1960's.
and no one in the family ever shunned us.. without making too much out of it my niece has not invited us to visit and meet our new nephew.

I just noticed that some people who used to be on Facebook aren't anymore. I guess they might have had something come out saying how bad it is for you?
